Somehow Boon of Shaliya helped me to run all missions on legend, I rarely get hit twice so making a lot of temp help is so useful. Barkskin is also good but is more viable in cataclysmic difficulty. It really depends of the situations you encounter. Such a shame we can’t have both lol.

Yea and that's basically the decision players have to make for themselves. Play style and skill level are big factors in to what someone will run.

Simple guideline: If you play Legend, use Boon of Shallya. --> effectively 30% more hp reg If you play Cataclysm, use Barkskin. --> 40% dmg reduction on follow up hits within 2 sec Usually, you will not get hit more than once within 2 seconds, making Barkskin worthless. When you do, it is most likely due to Specials. Specials do not really deal significant damage on difficulties below Cataclysm.

Exceptions to the rule: Zealot: you get 90% increased hp reg from a talent, which decreases the relative value of Boon of Shallya by about 50%. Always use Barkskin. Squad with low damage friendly fire aoe: Friendly fire can trigger Barkskin (depending on the weapon used, the damage dealt can be as low as 1hp). Depending on coordination, Barkskin can be superior to Boon of Shallya.

Yeah this isn't why we use barkskin. It's about friendly fire. When you get hit by ff, you proc barkskin ensuring they only take damage from you which is minimal. Don't ask why it works. It just does.

Barskin is also good for building career skill on bardin, surviving light attacks builds the skill fast while sacrificing temp health.

    Is it actually 70%? I didn't realise they combined additively. I thought it would be multiplicative: 30% for x 0.7, 40% for x 0.6, so x 0.7 x 0.6 = x0.42, so a 58% damage reduction?

  • @WetMagic

They used to stack additively at the time of this video. They changed it some months back to stack multiplicatively though.

Reminds me of the days when my Bounty Hunter would shatter like glass. Now I can get up to 70% reduction while using barkskin and the damage resistance stacking effect. Still only 120 HP with an HP necklace, but hot damn is he hard to kill for someone who's supposed to be squishy lol.

dont you normally block after taking a hit? If I fight 2 choas warrior and the first one hit me I wouldnt normally tank the second hit I either dodge or block

  • @WetMagic

You would certainly try to. What about things that attack faster then chaos warriors? What if enemies attack at the same time? What if you're grabbed by a hookrat and get hit constantly. No one thinks these things will ever happen to them, but it comes in handy when sht hits the fan.

Did i understand you right, Barkskin is proccing even when Impenetrable is "sponging" the damage of a hit?

  • @stoephil

I hate barskin on my squishy characters because I usually never get hit twice in a row. I don't get hit often, but when I do, it will be something like 1 hit here by a surprise ennemy, then more than 1 minute later 1 another hit there by another ennemy I did not see or hear... And barskin brings nothing against it. The exception is against surprise berserkers where it is nice, or against AOE effects where is really shines. It's also nice on a frontline character with already some damage reduction (for instance Slayer with Grimir's focus) to be able to hit ennemies aggressively with little care.

on cata its a must have... cause u get less dmg from gas, gutterrunner, stormfiend and many more...

i asked some onther VT2 player to confirm this: Dmg reduction is NOT additive! every source of dmg reduction has its own instance of calculation! which means: if u take 100dmg: and u have 30%(bardin)+40%(kruber shout)+40% (barkskin)= 110% which means you are completly dmg immune for 2sec... in most games this is not the case, to avoid that ppl become completly immune to dmg! So it works like this: 100dmg - 30% = 70dmg ... 70dmg - 40%(28dmg) = 42dmg ... 42dmg - 40%(16,8dmg) = 25,2dmg ! other games just use a "diminishing return" on allmost every stat

  • @WetMagic

    @WetMagic

If this is true then my bad. I honestly always thought it was additive and there's little to no information out there about it.
