Low compression gas is the only way to go. I have a SC 70Tx and an older sc 352 and have been grinding stumps since 1994. Good to see this new machine with Chevrolet 4.3 L V6 those things were bulletproof. Kind of like the Ford 300 6 cylinder we have those things that run 24 hours a day seven days a week here in the oilfield in East Tx and they will run about 20,000 hours which is almost 3 years without needing rebuilt.

I’m on the fence. Some days I’m into the gas engine. Some days I don’t want to leave diesel. I guess I’ll have to make a decision at some point.

Don't buy it slow means less grinding gas is for chainsaws only...

Machine looks awesome I have a lot of gas engines on equipment and seem to be all doing great. Yes, all gas engines run at 2600 to 2900 rpms for longevity. I however have never had good luck with ANY vermeer product. Over engineered safety and relay issues. With that being said, I think vermeer could have some great machines, but their use of relays in the wiring causes a ton of issues. Enjoy those machines.. they do kick butt 😊

I see where you’re coming from and I don’t think the safety stuff is necessary. However, I can also see where a large company would need to protect themselves. I will add the remote eliminates the stuff you’re probably worried about. In one of my videos a few days ago I was talking about longevity. My 552 went 1300 hours before any mechanical issues. My 852 went 1214 hours before the very first mechanical. There aren’t many other manufacturers that I see having that kind of run without large breakdowns. I know there’s not one size fits all for all of us. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to run Vermeer brand equipment. There is nothing on the same playing field in my eyes. If it doesn't have a remote control it's Old school.. standing there sucks and then the dusty dirty Air you breath come home take a shower and blowing your nose clean them days are over.. All Day grinding and your body feels like it just took twenty years off your life.... spend the extra money people and get a remote and you Will enjoy grinding a lot better..gas engine is cheaper and but you double your fuel cost and they don't have the torque even if it has more HP..... remember if you hustle you can make $1,000 too $3,000 everyday so get yourself a Big boy you Will pay for it in a few months..... good luck to All..

Remote is a must. I have 1 on both my machines. This was a demo so the remote wasn’t an option at the time. I like diesel machines a lot. However the 1052 is no joke. I was very impressed with it and I still consider getting one. It’s a nice unit

Good video, thanks for posting. Do you know if the engine is turbo charged? What are thoughts on recovery after taking some larger swipes? Is every position of the joy sticks fully proportional? Mainly the swing position. Thanks for any response you offer.

Not a turbo engine. It catches up after bogging pretty quick. Way quicker than I expected. It really does a good job. The joysticks are proportional which is such a necessary feature so many other companies are missing out on

Thanks for the video. I don’t get why Vermeer doesn’t swing for a 100 horse diesel grinder. It could be done. 100 horses in an 852 frame or even better…a SC70TX frame!! (That’s a track guy joke) PS. I’ll be in Breckenridge in December. I’ve been following your altitude tips!

I honestly get the feeling it’s much harder than any of us think. They would have to stick a DEF tank and the SCR in there and they’re not small. Also adding a ton to the price. I want it too. So bad. I really think it’s not possible at this point

The 3 gallons an hour you said you used with the SC1052 doesn't seem accurate. Vermeer has the SC1052 listed as consuming 7.6 GPH and the SC852 consuming 3.9 GPH. My 27 hp Kohler burns 1 gallon an hour. My 35 hp Briggs burns 2 gallons an hour. My 54 hp gas engine Kubota burns 3 gallons an hour. I don't see a 115 hp gas engine equipped stump grinder using 3 GPH. The SC852 has 74hp and 192 ft-lb of torque. The SC1052 has 115 hp and 231 ft-lb of torque but it drinks fuel almost twice as fast and I'm pretty sure it costs more. Unless the SC1052 grinds significantly faster, and I don't think it does, I think the SC852 is the way to go.

The 1052 is significantly faster. That 3 gallons an hour was what I experienced. I was shocked myself. It was a blowover so I wasn’t super deep in the cut. The RPMs run really low so it’s not screaming wide open throttle. I’m sharing my honest experience. I would love to hear the results if you get to run it

Vermeer doesn’t make a 29” wide machine. That’s the only reason I bought the SG40

I buy machines to use them. They still make more of them. I don’t want them for more than a couple years. I don’t get the buy a machine and don’t use it mentality but you can do whatever you wish with your machine! Thanks for the feedback

If they are the hooks on the cutter side yea, always pinching fingers looping a chain. And the rears are to small for a decent size chain hook to fit in. If they had a d ring on the blade it'd be better I feel

Cut excess trunk off, push stump over with loader, load up bug wood, then grind out, take axe cut roots out, then grind, tops 1 hour

I would keep the 1152 over the 1052. The 1152 is an absolute boss!
