In the 80's I lived in San Luis Obispo, CA. I worked with Pacific Productions bringing bands to local venues. I was on the board of directors, and the official photographer, so I had wonderful experiences in the green room and back stage. One of our main shows was the Ventures .

Wow, I'm not going to lie but I'm so jealous, in a very very RocknRoll way. I never met them but I miss them very much as well. If you listen to today's music (not all of it of course) you understand. An honor to have met you here...

Have a lot of their LPs . Saw them in person at the Tacoma Park ballroom east of Aberdeen SD in the early 60's. At break, Wilson and Bogle sat with us at our table. Gave them a cocktail (whiskey sour) and Wilson said ; whoa, you burnt this one. We asked them to play Pipeline and were told they couldn't 'cause it belonged to the Chantays. Good memories.77 years young!

I agree, I bought the "Hawaii Five-O" 45 with my paper route money. The B side was something like "Soul Breeze". Now that I have an adult daughter that's a singer/songwriter and vinyl freak, I wish I still had that to hand down to her.

My dad bought me a Fender Jaguar in 1963, when I was 13. I was fanatical about playing and did little else. I formed a band called "The Apaches" and used the money to put myself through school. Apache was our theme song. I learned every Ventures song I heard. Loved them then, and love them now. I'm still playing that Jaguar and Ventures songs. Thanks to God, my dad and of course, The Ventures. Shalom, gw

To me the Ventures were and always will be best of the best. They had a class all their own. When you grow up listening to their music as a child and listen to them now,it gets emotional. For me it's because my Dad loved to hear them play. He bought every album they made. Then when 4track players first came out He would record them so he could listen in the car. He would play the Ventures and Roy Orbison over and over on a long trip. Wow memories are great.

Music is more about feeling that kwoldege, you can write a good song using only two chords. The most important thing about it is passion. The Ramones didn't know how to play when they started and now they are one of the most influencial bands on earth. Just pick up a guitar and have fun.

Nah. The only instrument I can play is the radio. But I know what I like. I told Junior year high school English teacher one day that if she wanted me to appreciate poetry, she needed to put lead, rhythm and bass guitars and a set of drums with the poem. I still might not understand what the author was tryin to say, but I might like it. Without the music, I certainly wasn't gonna like it. That wasn't one of the best days I ever had in high school. :)

Good tune of which I had the record but lost it somewhere. And it is nice to hear it again played with that skill the Ventures had to play the electric guitar. One of my favorites of the early sixties and that is still very good to hear and enjoy whilst recalling my long-gone youth.

I had the good fortune of being with Nokie (the dude with the hat) in studio and during a couple of casual backstage jams. The guy had a lot more in his guitar arsenal than ever really got showcased in any of the Venture's recordings. In other words, he could play the living crap out of that guitar. LOL

I was in the garage band years ago that was heavily equipped, big rigs, nice drums, good stuff. We used to do Apache with a lot of texture and saturation, not blistering, but we but some real mood on it. It was a cool song to work with. It was well received. Good Job Ventures and thanks for the inspiration.

This tune was written by Jerry Lordon for the Shadows, the Shadows Apache is the original. They were the first band to feature lead Rhythm and Bass Guitar when they started out in 1958. Everyone else followed them, most Guitarists in the 60's were influenced by them, particular Hank Marvin on lead. Shadows true legends of popular music, every single went straight to number one.

  • @pinpandan

Have heard BOTH the versions and many would agree with me that the Shadows version of Apache WAS BETTER and demonstrated the unique sound of the Fender Stratocaster on an instrumental, something unheard of in UK then. Jorgen Ingman's version with the whizzing sound of arrows in the background was more gimmicky. Of course in the pre-Beatle's US prejudice against British artistes, Jorgen Ingman's version of Apache sold more copies than the Shadows version in the BIGGER US market. Bruce Welch was to lament in his biography LIFE IN THE SHADOWS that it made him sick to know that another version of their popular hit APACHE was selling twice as much as their version in the smaller UK/European market.
