My mother used to add little kadalai paruppru also and in the last add pinch of pachai karpooram Sakkarai pongal smell and taste will be so good

From dad's Lil princess To cook of the house you virtually taught me a lot sir. This is the first pongal for us after her demise. Now after watching this video I've learnt yet another important dish. I feel that "Thank you" is a very short phrase to describe my emotions but still I ought to say " Thank you" sir. It's most commonly called as sakarai pongal And not vellam pongal

I think earlier vellam (or karuppatti) was used for sarkarai (sweet) taste. Sarkarai means sweet. Only then sugar which we call sarkarai now came into picture. May be that’s the reason. That was just a guess. 🙂

Excellent!! It is the same recipe my mom used to make it!! Thanks Bhatre! One tip - If you are using organic Jaggery increase the quantity. It can be atleast three and half times to rice quantity. Keep the Paka ready and use it as per your sweet tooth!! The sweetness in organic Jaggery is less than normal Jaggery
