Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

I know you said "as a man" with some hesitancy, but I am a 63 year old woman and have been providing the only red meat (in the form of hunted venison) for my family for 40 years. All does, taken legally, ethically and died instantly. Anywhere between 3>25 per year (25 when hunting on a large managed ranch, when the men were only trophy hunting and no one wanted to take the required number of does). The USA hunter demographic is decreasing, but the female demographic is growing. In order to maintain the appropriate hunter population, I always encourage women who want to get out in nature and have the satisfaction of experiencing an ethical kill, healthy processing, and delicious cooking. My motto is, "In the wild to in the belly".

KEVIN(!) Thanks for talking about the value of wild harvesting from the wild. When I hunt, I don't think in terms of my gender but I bet the feeling I get is similar to yours. Yes, it's very primal, and as an ethical hunter, I feel in touch with the wilds. I like the feeling of confidence that I can survive and provide. I say a prayer a Native American friend taught me to thank the animal's spirit, and God, for the blessing of the bounty.

Hi Kevin & family, I was raised in Louisiana, I moved to Southern California about 48 years ago for my military service. I brought a piece of meat from a trip home, it was about 18" long X 6" in diameter. I cooked it for my friends on a back yard grill / smoker. I wouldn't tell them what it was, just let them guess. Some said it was like lobster, some said it reminded them of chicken breast. I finally let them know it was alligator tail... they thought it was the best. Kind wishes & blessings.

I love the idea of the smoker tube. I've never seen anything like it before. I would use that on my grill, while I smoke meat on the grill. I make BBQ pork chops, and this would be so much easier than soaking wood chips, and putting them right on the hot charcoal. When I do it this way, the wood chips don't last long enough. I already use a chimney starter for lump charcoal, and I absolutely love it. No need to use charcoal lighter fluid. Thanks for sharing this, as always! Some of the best meat I have ever put on the grill was marinated Canadian goose breast meat, cut into strips and skewered like an accordion with mushrooms, onions, and cherry tomatoes alternated on the skewer. I use teriyaki sauce, ginger, sesame seed oil and sesame seeds browned/toasted in the sesame oil for the marinade. There is also a hot(spicy)sesame seed oil out there that you may like to try as well. I have not hunted goose in years now, so I really miss making this on the grill.

I cleaned our freezer recently to squeeze a few cheap turkeys in and I found several small packs of venison steak thst fell to the bottom. I'm thinking venison stir-fry with the sweet peppers I have from the garden in the freezer too. I'm hoping he gets a deer this year too.

If I was starving, I have no problem squirrel hunting or upland bird, but we raise grass fed Hereford. One is headed for our freezers as soon as it is done aging. I do love venison when we have it. I like your marinade. Sounds like a winner for taste and tenderizing! If it was up to me, I would raise meat rabbits again. They can be raised without grain, if the grain supply dries up. I had a Traeger pellet smoker and it did a great job… When it worked. I went through 5-6 of the same smokers because the digital temp output or the motor the moves the pellets would break constantly. But when the smoker worked it was awesome and did a great job.

Great video, Kevin. I do make jerky occasionally so will have to try this one. Just getting ready to fry up some venison tenderloin with onions, peppers and mushrooms. This is our favorite for jerky. I am also a 70 year old female and have been hunting for 40+ years. We usually get 4 bucks but this year didn't have any luck during bow season so only got two in rifle season. For anyone who doesn't have venison, any jerky recipe will work with beef!! I've even made turkey jerky!! Good luck during the rest of your hunting season!! Love all the video's you and Sarah do. Keep up the great work. God Bless

This makes my mouth water 😋 We took a road trip this week south into BC, Canada. Saw lots of wood bison, moose, elk, mule deer & caribou. Even a lynx was sitting on the bank watching the road😆. We have some beautiful moose meat this year but would love to get a bison or elk next year! Thanks for sharing this recipe!

Jerky is the best for people who like snacks. It's a true healthy snack. Wahoo! another lefty! Somethings are harder for us lefties just because everything is set up for right handed people.

I have to admit guys that here in Canada using soya sauce, garlic and pepper on venison is a “norm”, anything else is like a specialty 😆 the only way I will eat it is that way personally as the flavours are a tad too gamey otherwise but it’s a personal preference. Thank you for sharing this recipe with others

I love deer jerky! Thanks for the nice video. We made salsa and smoked all our veggies unpeeled tomatoes , peppers ,onions, garlic. On the smoked for several hours. Wow that is so yummy. Might want to try it. We can it and love to take it to friends and family. Don’t tell them it’s smoked. I love watching there faces. It’s gone in no time.

My sister has a smoker. Unfortunately we didn't get to deer hunt this year. But next year my twin sister and I are going. Making it a girls time 🤣 my husband isn't a hunter so I get to bring home the meat. Just didn't have time this season.
