Venice: City of Dreams

Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2012 | After sorting through the monuments of Venice's powerful past, we'll trace its decline from Europe's most powerful city to its most hedonistic one. We'll cruise the Grand Canal, luxuriate in a venerable café, and savor fresh fish canal-side with Venetian friends. Becoming as anonymous as possible in this city of masks, we'll be dazzled by masterpieces of the Venetian Renaissance and get intimate with the city of Casanova...on a gondola in the moonlight. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #venice

I highly recommend visiting here! It was absolutely amazing! You will NEVER see anything like it anywhere else! An entire city surrounded by water instead of roads. Its also frozen in time, and you really feel like you traveled back in time to the renaissance period. A magical place it was!

Wow! The place Rick is eating at 13:40 is Cantina Do Spade, I was there just this January with my boyfriend who is from the Venetian mainland. We randomly decided to pop in for some cicchetti and it was fabulous! So happy to see it featured here, since it is a good representation of local fare. I HIGHLY recommend baccalà mantecato (creamed cod - my favorite food in Italy to be honest), sarde in saor or zucca in saor (if it's available) - sardines or pumpkin in a sour sauce, and the calamari ripieni (stuffed squid)! Try some of the Raboso wine!

These videos have been very helpful as of late. I mean, I never have the kind of money to go on European vacations in the first place, but in a time when the entire world has been more or less closed for maintenance, it’s nice to have all these videos available and feel like I’m still able to get out and about. Thanks Rick Steves.

Seeing Venice through Rick's eyes adds a touch a romance to this already romantic city. Whether it is the hustle and bustle extensive promenade or a serene view of canal waters, or the austere or the lavish Medieval churches, or for bar-hopping to satsify your hunger or to sample the delightful taste of Italian wine, Venice has it all. Venice is a must-visit destination for any one who enjoys the company of a loved one in a serene, picturesque waterfront and water-encompassing settings. Ciao!

I have been a couple of times in Venice but I do regret not having had Stevens as the perfect guide. Watching this display I feel that now I have the real wonderful city with its art, the beauty of its buildings, and all the many small secrets of its charm that Rick displays with simple language and intelligent synthesis. Thank you Rick!

Thank you, Rick Stevens, for this GLORIOUS tour. It outshines our actual experience, as there are crowds everywhere, so our 20person tour group was marched trhough St. Mark's in far less time than you were able to film it. (Thank you too for the highly skilled and artistic camera work) The greatest joy of being in Venice is that it is a walking delight. We were not at the Gritti Palace nor the Danieli, but in a small hotel on a square. The people were high sirited, the foods and WINES superlative. My first taste of Brunello was as a house wine! We took the ferry over to Murano to visit a glass factory, and bring home treasured souvenirs. Tjis trip with you is a far finer one,> I would like to recommend it to everyone with eyes to see as Art History 401!

@@Mike-sp4iz every country citizen has their own sad stories and discontent. People just like to magnify the problems in US because it is so powerful. This was a nice video but so much complaining. The fact is america never created these types of luxurious buildings to begin with with being such a young country. There might be a few nicer art deco types in NY but thats it.
