Venerable Ajahn Chah - "On Meditation" - Thai Forest Theravada Buddhism

Ajahn Chah was a Thai Buddhist monk. He was an influential teacher of the Buddhadhamma and a founder of two major monasteries in the Thai Forest Tradition. He was reputed to be an Arahant.
Respected and loved in his own country as a man of great wisdom, he was also instrumental in establishing Theravada Buddhism in the West. Beginning in 1979 with the founding of Cittaviveka (commonly known as Chithurst Buddhist Monastery) in the United Kingdom, the Forest Tradition of Ajahn Chah has spread throughout Europe, the United States and the British Commonwealth. The dhamma talks of Ajahn Chah have been recorded, transcribed and translated into several languages. He left behind a legacy of dhamma talks, students, and monasteries.
Please note that all of my recordings can be downloaded via my Google Drive site, details of which can be found under the COMMUNITY tab of the main page of my YT channel.

He offers an uncluttered description of jhana, superior to many others. Thanks for reading and posting.

Western psychology can only benefit from the distinctions of these "cognitive operations" made so elegantly in this discourse. Just pure good "medicine" here.

A wonderful, balanced, teaching on meditation - describing two different 'paths' to arrive at the truth or reality. For me a lovely review of my history of spiritual practice which began with Theravada Buddhism (manifest in the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction training) and more recently moving to Advaita. His very final comments on the nature of reality - the Pali words here definitely echo the Hindu term of sat-chit-ananda. Ajan Chah's reach in the United States through his students, Jack Kornfield and Joseph Goldstein, led to the establishment of two meditation centers in Massachusetts (Insight Meditations Society) and California (Spirit Rock). We are blessed to have these teaching so widely available to us today. Another beautiful rendition with a gentle voice and appropriate spacing/cadence to allow absorption and contemplation. Thank you Jayasara.
