It's a legal scam. What will NYPD do, arrest them for some obscure law and then the scammers will say they were walking outside Battery Park and NYPD violated their civil right while you'll buy it hook, line, and sinker.

if you do some research, they are indeed sold a boat ticket. this boat does not go to the statue, but goes AROUND it. so when they try to use the ticket to go to the official boat that goes to the island, they are told thats not their ticket. tourist should be doing their own research before going to visit a site so they can pre-buy tickets or at least know where to go to buy the tickets. clearly, too many people just show up without a plan and just go where the wind tells them.

This is chaotic situation, they are aggressive in their approach offering upgrades that doesn’t exist and charging people to get into a city park. No enforcement from City Hall; which makes no sense when the Statue is one of the NY biggest tourist attractions.

That’s just horrible Jesus

What are the lazy cops doing if even the news knows about this, we have billions going into security for downtown and this is happening in broad daylight.

NYPD has failed my city once again

i work in the area and sometime i would go for a walk in the park during lunch with shirt and tie. These mfers still came up to me and "youre going to ellis island ? you need a ticket" chased me and blocked me. the battery park is owned by NYC but its managed by state appointees and the only 2 entrances are right by subway station, and in the park you'll see federal agent. it could be a conflict in jurisdiction. but, anyway this is going to be resolve fast since its on the news.
