Everyone has their favorite character in Dragon Ball. For some it’s Goku and that’s not hard to see why. He’s the eager, tender-hearted hero who always manages to rise to whatever challenge faces him. Then some love Vegeta and I totally get that too. He’s the ultimate brooding anti-hero whose quest to surpass the protagonist is always just shy of enough, to his infinite shame. While both of those characters are worthy of being someone’s favorite, my favorite is actually the two of them combined.
You see, during the Majin Buu arc, Goku and Vegeta were so desperate to protect the Earth that they turned to the unthinkable. These two former enemies decided to use potara earrings to fuse into the ultimate warrior. This combined hero not only fused all of their powers together, but their character traits as well. Vegito was more than just a quick twist to sell action figures, he very nearly changed the thematic meaning of Goku and Vegeta’s entire relationship...twice. Ultimately this never happened but I will make the case why it should in the first place.
Before we get to Vegito, we’ll cover Goku and Vegeta separately. We will look not only at their powers but how their personalities led them to their greatest victories and harshest defeats. We will also analyze how their relationship has influenced each other and what their fusion could’ve meant.
So let’s jump right in! Here are all the reasons why Vegito is the best fusion in the series!
