Vauxhall Vivaro Campervan Conversion - Pt 10 - Electrics and Cabinet Making

Vauxhall Vivaro Campervan Conversion. This time I am doing the electrics in my van conversion. This is a LWB Vauxhall Vivaro and it has a simple 12v system for a small campervan. The overall campervan build is coming along and the cabinet making is the next major change in the van.

I am just doing a 15 plate Vivaro, I am at the same stage as this video and watching how you got the cable from the starter battery to the cabinets has just saved me a tonne of time. Cheers.

Loving this series, loads of useful info and it's giving me wanderlust. Might want to consider editing out the bins though, they give stuff away that you may not want to share.

Thanks for watching. I know what you mean, I think I managed to edit out the reg of the van, but I did miss the bins a couple of times. Thanks for pointing that out.

Hi Dave, Would you be as so kind as to provide me with a list of which type of wire is required for each application; you should be proud you have given me the confidence to tackle my own electrics with your excellent videos and I feel this is the only thing I’m not sure about? Thank you kindly, Steve

Hi Steve, Thanks for watching and I'm glad to hear that the videos help. The list of different gauges of wire is something I don't have. If I recall correctly I used mainly 10mm2 for the battery connections, 6mm2 for the solar, and 1.5mm2 for the appliance's. But here is a video I learned a lot from, take a look it's really informative. kzread.info/dash/bejne/naN6yZiodtaWgrg.html Hope that helps

Hi Dave, Thank you very much I’ll take your guidance. As for the Greg Vergo video I found it to intense, whereas your video was very clear and precise which I’m eternally grateful for. Thanks again Dave and seasons greetings.I

Ps also why did you put two fuses on the wire between the starter battery and controller?

Great stuff Dave. I've watched a ton of videos, ive just bought a transit custom which is kinda similar, but you explain things so well! Just a question about the electrics, what size solar panels and what amp leisure battery do you have/recommend? Also, I've never heard of Ring before so, what made you choose this controller over the more well known brands like Victron, Renogy or even the CTEK? Steve

Hi Steve, On he electrics I tried the Ring and it was okay but now I use the Renogy DC to DC with MPPT which I think is a better unit. I usually put a 120-130awatt solar panel on and a 130amp hour leisure battery. This seems to be okay for a day/weekend van but If you are looking at longer trips a bit more battery power would be a good idea. Thanks for watching.

I'm worried that you have run the cables from the vehicle battery without the protection of conduit. Any wear of the insulation could cause a massive short circuit, so I would advise physical protection of those cables.

Hi Neil, The cables are well secured under the bonnet and run behind the trim inside the cab, I'm sure they will be okay.

Unless you have moved away from your accented tone, I'm guessing you are very near to me. I hope so because I could really do with your help in less than a months time. Very interesting build which leads me to wonder if I could possibly hire your talents in the future. I have a 2004 Connect (The higher roof), which I love, but I feel the need to change the interior completely. I'm keeping the 250W solar panel, The split charger,, lights, 5k diesel heater, considering the 110ah leisure battery, and most of the electrics will stay. At the moment I have a Victron 75/15 blue tooth charger that for some reason I cannot connect to so I want a display for voltage in/out, usage etc. I have decided to buy a ring DC to DC charger instead after watching many good reviews. Do you have an Email address so I could give you more details? Please let me know if you are interested. Love the Channel. Cheers mate.

Hi Pete, Thanks for watching. I did test the breakers and the ones I have seem to be okay, they definitely cut the power once the switch is thrown. I'm currently working on another Vivaro I should get a van tour up soon. Thanks
