I had a 1.6 1998 one in black it was brilliant to drive. On a visit to TDC in Russelsheim Germany I saw a Tigra at Opel special vehicles with a mid mounted 3.0 V6 , they won the ice racing championship think it was in Finland

Great little cars and as you said sadly overshadowed by the Puma but it could have benefited from a bit more power to go with the Lotus mods. I met Ray at a couple of shows and his enthusiasm for the model is great to see!

Great video and lovely example lucky man the owner ! I was Vauxhall sales exec 95-98 and my colleague always had Tigra as his demo the one that sticks in my mind was 95M plate 1.6 in Apache gold he was a short chap and loved them

I like Ray.....any car guy that knows his power to weights gets the ok from me. What a tasty example......but you watch now prices will be tweaked up on the adverts for Tigras.

I saw this at vaux valvs recently at donnington park. And i must admit i circled this tigra 2 or 3 times with the owner sat inside. I must of looked like some possessed hungry shark! 😊 i couldnt help but admire how clean it was and was desperate to know the milage but couldnt peer through window with the owner inside. Id love to get my mits on it, inlet box. Head work. Exhaust. cams and lightflywheel. would make lovely little revving machine ❤

I've got a 1.6 Chequers one of these, was a rotbox when I bought it, but it's nearly done now and drives like an absolute gokart!

Its because the ulez is based on nox emissions not the co2 emissions so older cars werent designed to meet those nox levels however some older cars do actually meet the nox requirements but you have to go through the process with the manufacturer to get a certificate on the nox emissions to submit to get it ulez exempt

I couldn't believe it when I found out my 2003 Mitsubishi Galant Estate with a 2.4 GDI is ULEZ compliant. I thought no way but indeed......Way!

My mate breaks those and uses em for stock car racing, he started with novas then Corsas and tigras !. He’s broke more of then 3 cars than you’ve probably ever seen, a lot of them really quite nice ones aswell as you do need a solid shell. He’s had some really nice SR’s SRI’s GTE’s and GSI’s be worth a lot of money now 😂

What a lovely little car, I remember these from my teens but I've never managed to purchase or drive one. Ray seems a genuine enthusiast, that car is in safe hands I'd say. It's a shame about the ULEZ situation mind, those rules boggle my mind.

I've had a Tigra and a Puma and would have both again. I loved the Tigra and missed out on a low mileage one a few months ago as I don't have spaced to keep it.

There's been a few in the UK. Andy Speck had a very powerful C20LET Tigra he ran at Ten of the Best.

Got same issue with dash bulb out on heater controls my Corsa b had. I used to hit it to get it back on.

I had a 1.6 tigra in orange she was named Tina Excellent car although my son didn’t think so 😂

I think a Mitsubishi FTO would be a perfect upgrade for him if he ever wanted or needed to

Ha ha, had a good nose round this at Shedfest this summer, I came in (one of only 2 Corsa b). This was the only Tigra I clocked (I think… or was there a pineapple, yellow one there?) Anyway, NICE.

The handling on that car looked tighter than rays leggings 😮

Having owned and adored a rusty Puma 1.7 I’d love to give one of these a try. If VX would have let that 1.6 breath it sounds like it would be stronger than the 1.7 Ford/Yamaha lump.

Changing the inlet manifold alone frees up about 20bhp on the 1.6, they strangled it for insurance purposes at the time.

Was it really a concept car that made production? The Ford Sierra was supposed to be the same, but the “concept” was obviously just a dressed up version on the production car. The Roadster was definitely a missed opportunity.

I've got a story in my head that these came from the factory with bad suspension settings, especially at the front, that made these very unpleasant to drive and this badly affected the sales. Perhaps the later Lotus mods were made to address this? Would be good to know if there was any truth in this story.

You could be right. I had an N-plate 1.4 that was 4 years old at the time, and the (absolutely hideously enormous) steering wheel very slightly vibrated a bit around the motorway limit. We never got to the bottom of it.

I think that's more the Corsa GSi they seemed to have solved the handling with the Tigra although it can easily be improved further. The Autocar article speaks highly of it at launch. Typical of all Vauxhalls of the era in not being as good as it could though.

My grans opel corsa c 2001 5 door metalic green in Ireland has been in the garage since 2011 ..hasnt moved since 2013 when i got it started havent seen it since then.. its still there doing nothing to this day . cars mint only done 34000 kmh everythings factory fresh still not speck of rust anywhere..my aunt inherited it .its laying doing nothing still ...low mileage 20 plus years vauxhalls must be rare now

I miss seeing tigras they had a certain interior smell to them. They remind me of a squashed calibra.

I've never seen the point of coupes. It's a cramped version of the Corsa!

That ulez is i a joke ,my 2.0 turbo 20 year old saab is ulez friendly and will put out more fumes than little vauxhall .

They were not fast and rusted away sadly as they only had a tiny 1.4 engine even the 1.6 was very slow compared to for example my old Saxo VTS that did 0-60 in 7 secs so over 2 secs quicker , I liked the Astra more than the Tigra as the Astra of the early 00s had a GSI version 2litre turbo which was a lot faster

lol a saxo vts was not a competitor that’s the corsa gsi equivalent, a 1.6 Zara vtr coupe would be a better match. These are like a baby calibra my mum had and then I had it was se7 2.0 ecotec. The Tigra as doogie said was never meant to be a hot hatch, it’s only direct competitor that I recall was the puma of which I have driven a 1.4 and 1.7 so very similar the 1.4 puma was fun to drive but slow. They also did a rare 1.6 in the puma.
