Thank you for the video as I bought a 17 plate low mileage insigniavxr supersport and have been reading and watching horror stories about what goes wrong and made me think I shouldn't have bought one. But now thanks to your video I feel more confident about having one. Especially as I have full service history and a new clutch 😀

Brilliant car in its day but stay well clear of them now as parts are impossible to get since PSA bought vauxhall.

In terms of drivetrain, just make sure you swap the rear diff oil as well, when the Haldex gets its fluid changed. Because the 4x4 on these is a "bit" more complex than your usual Haldex units... There is a 2nd, completely separate Haldex clutch pack in there, working as a limited slip diff, dubbed "sport differential". Needs specific oil as well.

  • @alfisti93

If you're regularly changing the "lifetime" Haldex fluid, including the filter, just do yourself a favour and have the rear diff done as well. Most 4x4 (and all OPC / VXR models) have an additional clutch pack in there working as LSD. Though part of the Haldex system it's located on the diff. Needs correct LSD diff oil as well. (No Volvo or vag have a LSD on the rear axle with their Haldex units, so the rare Opel/Vauxhall + SAAB 4x4 technicalities tend to be overlooked on these. Causing avoidable issues.)

@@vpowervpower-sm5sp I'm leaking oil in the point which the engine is connected with the automatic gearbox. Its not much, but i find not normal. The way that im using the car, the way that i treat the engine, which i want to say im very careful, this i didn't expect to happen. I was asking, and search about this problem, i heard that there is a flange the is between the automatic gearbox and the engine that maybe destroy. The problem is that to change only this flange you must disassemble many things, which that will rise the repair cost very much. Did you ever heard of this problem? And is there a better flange like the original, that could possibly be better and it will not need to change it in the future? Thnks a lot. Take care.

I’m looking at purchasing one badged as a Holden here in Australia and was only available for 1 year MY16 and came in Auto only. Any info on the auto version would be appreciated as they are really unknown here and a lot of car for around the $20k aud mark with under 100k km too. Thank you

Hi the auto versions are more reliable and don't suffer from clutches slipping etc or have any flywheel issues like that manual may have so has a few advantages for sure i have never driven an auto but I'm guessing the gearbox has probably been mapped to shit up and down quicker than a normal insignia

Since these are rare in AUS and Holden is gone, not a lot of garages know about these - so just one thing: when changing the Haldex fluid have the rear diff oil done as well. (There is a 2nd Haldex clutch pack in there working as limited slip diff. Pretty special system not seen on any other Haldex 4x4 cars, except Insignia siblings from SAAB & Cadillac. Needs limited slip specific gear oil as well.)

@@svenhollis-lifts If you're contemplating the 1750 TBi (200bhp petrol) there is a chance the turbo wears out. This engine has full boost at 1400 [!] rpm (which was absolutely wild and unique 15 years ago - downside is you have to drive this thing meticulously during warm up, as it goes into max boost basically from idle. And have it cool down after a hot ride obviously...) Cheers to down under!

Got a 2009 had it from new, never had any issues. Changed the Haldex oil and filter and diff oil every 20,000 miles. Change my oil with 5/40 fully synthetic oil not 5/30 every 6000 miles. Only hear the horror stories never the positives.

Hi. I just had my haldex oil & filter changed & 2 miles from the garage the service light came on. I dismissed it & drove a further 10 miles with lots of twists & turns but light didnt come back on. Could it be a glitch?

  • @alfisti93

Was it filled correctly? When fully drained, the system could require to be topped off - after the Haldex pump was engaged and pushed some fluid into the clutch pack... The oil level can be checked by inserting an Allan key in the upper Haldex plug. (Since the warning disappeared, it was probably a "glitch", where the pump did not sense enough oil / pressure for a brief moment after the refill.) Piece of advice: have the oil from the rear diff changed as well regularly. Because there is a 2nd Haldex clutch pack, functioning as a limited slip diff. (Way more complex than your typical Volvo, Ford, LR or vag Haldex unit, so people either don't know about it or tend to forget about that...) Specific LSD fluid for this differential is recommended.

@@jamiewhelan31 You're welcome! If you have the "sport differential" with the second clutch pack (that's standard on every OPC / VXR but not necessarily every civil Insignia 4x4) a change is highly recommended. -> Opel 75W-90 GL4+ with LS note (number: 19 40 058 or 93 165 388) -> Saab AWD LS 75W-90 (number: 88862624) -> RAVENOL LS 75W-90 Something along those lines... Caution - the "LS" (Limited Slip) label is key here!! Fortunately, compared to the Haldex fluid change, the rear diff is easily accessible. Originally it's a system which was devised by SAAB (9³ XWD) in conjuction with Haldex for use in certain upmarket GM brands... (Take a guess how I found out about it... Greetings from the Alps!)
