    A quick remap on this thing turns it into an absolute beast. 321bhp grows to 375 and the torque to 500nmn(370lbs) The 0-62 time when tested is about 6 but that comes down to around 5.2 and the power delivery changes completely. It’s unbelievable. And a bargain for around £400.

    Simple reason to buy this car: 321 BHP and a manual gearbox. The latter is the deal maker, as it is difficult to find a wagon with a 6 speed that isn't an econobox.

    Well it´s a very good alternative then - I would though never take it in red, since most of the new Vauxhall/Opel´s actually benefits from more subtle metallic colors enhancing the impression of quality - In real I am quite impressed with the design and living in Germany I don´t see to many of them, so they actually stand out slightly and always make a good impression for exterior design. In this review I missed some info about the handling, steering response and overall quality feel. Else it was a fine review, thanks ;)

    First time I've seen this channel- very good, entertaining review! I like the car too- looks a decent second hand buy- about £6k cheaper than the equivalent 5 year old Audi S4 but badge snobbery aside I think the Audi is far better looking and comes with the kind of interior only Audi can manage.

  • @alfisti93

    @alfisti93

    Badge snobbery aside: the MMI-system in the audis are a nightmare to operate -who came up with the idea to place 15(!) similar buttons out of sight behind the gear leaver?? And then the fake aluminium and glossy interior surfaces start to blister after 3-4 years... www.motor-talk.de/bilder/klavierlack-wirft-blasen-am-mmi-drehknopf-usw-g43002092/a4-8k-mmi-bedienknopf-001-i204252729.html (in ours the whole shifting gate started to peel, so we have had our fair share of "premiumcabin" feeling ;) Granted, not everything is fine in the Insignia world as well, its rather small inside for its size / a bit too big and heavy compared to its competitors -depends which way you want to see it. But sometimes less bling is the better choice.

    @@dickie8184 - Probably not tbh. Remaps for an Insignia VXR go to 380 bhp tops and you may get to 420-430 on stock internals, but above that you'll be spending significant money. A 390 bhp Insignia would do 0-60 mph in about 5 seconds and 0-100 mph in about 12 seconds. Stull slower than a Lotus Carlton. The Lotus Carlton can be tuned to 500+ bhp meaning 0-100 mph in significantly under 10 seconds. The engine's just much more tuneable and doesn't have cooling issues at high BHP like an Insignia VXR. You've got to remember that the Lotus Carlton was a custom made vehicle with no expense spared and was extremely expensive when released in 1990. Close to £50,000. Adjusted for inflation that car would cost £120,000 in today's money!!!! So over 3x what a new Insignia VXR would have cost in 2017. The Lotus Carlton was much faster than even an equivalent BMW M5 and was marginally faster than a Ferrari Testarossa. It's was the hyper saloon car in its day. The modern equivalent would be a Tesla Model S Plaid.

    @@brtdwchtr - Fuel consumption is not bad. 26 miles to gallon. Not great but not terrible for a 2.8 V6 Turbo. You've also got to remember that this engine was first developed 17 years ago (10 years before your comment). My Mum and Dad had a Z31 Nissan 300 ZX Turbo from new and that did 18 miles to gallon so the Insignia is a big improvement on that. If you want fuel economy on the Insignia, you're probably best with the detuned 2.0 CDTI with just under 140 bhp. Not nearly as much fun to drive though.

    Drove the usual Insignia as a 175hp Diesel with automatic and it was sadly rubbish. Cabin felt cheep, even cut myself at the door lever twice. Couldn't shift to third gear in manual mode (There was seriously a sign telling me "Shifting not possible"), in sport mode it wouldn't shift before 4k rpm (in a Diesel), ride was way too stiff, seats were horribly uncomfortable. At least the steering wheel was nice and it looked premium.
