"The Vauxhall Insignia is styled to look more like a coupe than a family car, but it can't match the Ford Mondeo for driver fun."

Ive had a 1.8 petrol for 5 years done 50k miles taking it up to 85k and apart from tyres and brakes i have just had to replace water pump and thermostat sensor. A very reliable car.

I just bought one and your comment is a bit of a relief. Ive had a few problems on mine. Ive talen it back twice. Had a new oil pump fittes due to low oil pressure. Few codes have popped up n had plugged in. Can also see underneath that it has had a previous water leak as dry coolant can be seen underneath..not leaking water now so must have been done but the water pump is common on them. Its a lovely car and stylish. And it shifts too!
I disagree with Rebeccas opening remarks, that "the Insignia has never been the most exiting car on the market". Actually I think, it has been one of the best looking cars in its class, since it was released. Not as spacious as a Skoda Superb, not as well handling as a BMW 3-series and not as cheap to run as a Toyota Avensis. But a car, that you bought exactly for style and luxury. A bit like an Audi A4.

z00h You are allowed to have a different opinion, but I will stick to mine. The Insignia was a big success on its realease, and the majority of Insignias have been sold with big alloy wheels and a high level of equipment. Which to me confirm, that I am right about its place in the market. The new petrol and diesel engines are among the best in the market. So all that Opel (and GM) need to do now, is to get rid of the excess weight. And that will hopefully happen in the next generation of Insignia and Astra.

Cars designed by committees are like gray suits/uniforms. They can be stylish and luxurious; but forever bland and impersonal.
@00kirbyd
10 жыл бұрын
Arthur TheSemiDutch You can say the exact same thing about Audis or BMWs then. Vauxhalls aren't bland because they sell in big numbers, they're not impersonal because the brand and the griffin mean something to the majority of British motorists.
@apalsenberg
10 жыл бұрын
00kirbyd Yes, you could say the same about most German car makers; of which Vauxhall (Opel) is part of. That you have a soft spot for Vauxhall is down to good marketing on their part. They are impersonal cars for the masses/sheeple; like gray suits and Katie Perry music. :-p
Finally an Opel Insignia review.
I reckon Matt does better review because his height is the same as me so when gets in the back its alittle more accurate
They're not bad cars. I've only ever had one as a company driver but the firm I'm now alternative assets sales manager for have given me a Mercedes C Class diesel and I must say it's fantastic. Oh also, Rebecca really does do some superb reviews, really detailed and well laid out. Plus let's be honest, she is extremely easy on the eye, what an absolute stunner.
Passning the industry standard lip gloss test is key to market share. Millions of R&D money well spent.
For those asking vauxhall offer the insignia in a 4 door saloon version which is very similar to this one but with a different boot and also as a sports tourer which is an estate
"75 mpg". That'll be 45 to 50 then.
@CottferLAD22

Have to reduce by proportion, which seems to be about one third in view of manufacturers' gross exaggerations. No way can a car of the mass of an Insignia do 70 mpg in normal, even careful, driving, even with a diesel.
@TheKenjoje

CottferLAD22 of course. the one could follow real-world tests on many car sites. those who 'know people who know people' are in dilussion. most of people relies too much on trip comp and doesn't know how to calculate exactly. for example: www.whatcar.com/car-news/real-world-mpg-economical-family-cars/1223365 - the best result is 66. these cars are a class smaller than insignia.

She says that there is plenty of headroom in the back, but I have to disagree. She's not exactly the tallest of people yet her head would be hitting the roof if she wanted to rest it against the headrest. Vauxhall have made a HUGE design flaw here in trying to make the car aesthetic and aerodynamic they have compromised comfort in the back seat. That is unless you're the individual who enjoys awkwardly contorting his or her spine for the duration of a car journey.
@markrl75

Absolutely correct the headroom in the back was so limited in many cities they could not be registered as Taxis thus killing one of the cars largest potential markets.

Is the Vauxhall insignia Sri Vx-line nav 2.0 diesel manual 2016 (66) in red any good for driving quite harsh and good on long motorway journeys,like around 200 miles?
@scottjrmclaren9838
3 жыл бұрын
Did you get one? These 2.0 like to be driven on long drives but dislike short run arounds.
Rented a top model of this car (diesel and auto gearbox) and drove for more than 600miles in a week. Good engine, equipment and dash, but poor rear visibility and odd-shaped side mirror that led to some misjudgment of distance (much worse than conventional square mirrors), easy to drive although not fun, some interior material feels cheap, huge boot but back seat uncomfortable, new facelift not bad to look at but rear indicating light seemed not bright enough
Big improvement on the interior compared to the original. They've made more use of the space.
ive the new 1.6ecoflex diesel its quieter than the passat 1,6tdi i traded in and is heaps quicker! am really pleased with my new insignia sri

I have a petrol insignia 1.8 2014 model and its great to a point and one i need to take up with the garage as its still under warranty and that is it loses power on hills/ inclines . i know its all about the gear selection but still not good on motorways. I genuinely like this car and hopefully its just a glitch that can be sorted .
I've had one of these cars as a courtesy car whist mine is being fixed, and whilst I've really enjoyed the drive (because it's a newer car than mine, 2017, versus a 2002 Honda), I've had a *lot* of oncoming cars flashing me when driving at night. The main-beam is obviously a problem.......

@Olliebobalong

Because Vauxhall is a British nameplate and have been building car with Opel in continental Europe and the UK since the company began. They have always been apart of GM. Vauxhall has a lot to do with Opel and GM, they design a lot of cars over here and they build a couple (astra for example).

Nice dash design, good running costs. Not sure about that touchpad would find that fiddly on the move. With my own money I'd look at Mazda 6. The one owner warranty is a sticking point for me it kills resale value for vauxhalls. I was looking at nearly new astras and they were like 7k that's mental!
Nothing but problems with mine limp mode even after all things repaired nobody seems to be able to fix it by vauxhall
"plenty of headroom" saying it with a head in the roof...

Such a shame Opel failed in Australia. High price was an issue, and goofy German advertising campaign didn't help either.
@00kirbyd
10 жыл бұрын
GM will never admit this, but it seems obvious to my contact who works in the motor trade down under, that Opel was forced out by Holden, because they didn't want them lowering their prices to match theirs - and being a direct competitor. There's no way they could've failed if they'd only been in the country for 12 months. My contact tells me that Peugeot and Volkswagen have dropped their prices signifcantly recently, in an effort to drive sales. Holden to be honest should be rebranded Opel (although i'd prefer Vauxhall of course), as all they seem to do is rebadge either Suzukis, Chevrolets or Opels.

also , discs score, brake pads wear quick, springs fail early, noisy road noise, doors hold water, engine management lights come on all the time including service vehicle soon, abs sensors, dual particle filters clogged too easily, also if your flywheel clutch goes even in warranty expect to pay 1200+ for new, they will blame your driving, or wear and tear, the 100,000 warranty wont help you, never again
