★★★★☆ Vaultek Slider Review + Setup Instructions, Mounting, Install tips - SL20i / NSL20i App

Here's the exact safe I got on Amazon: amzn.to/2uAof0L or get it through these guys (the Northwest Safe guys are the experts. Outstanding support and knowledge base.): nwsafe.com/pro...
Pros:
- Super burley box. This thing is thick and heavy.
- Relatively easy setup, if you follow the instructions (see video for quick instructions)
- Mounts snugly near my bed (comes with 4 beefy screws) right on the wall
- Bright interior light
- Fantastic battery life (bonus: you don't have to worry about inserting it a specific way. Vaultek auto-detects the polarity, which I have no idea how they know which way is positive and which way is negative. I wish more devices had this ability.)
- You can turn off the beeps (I don't like to alert the entire house of where I am when I'm accessing my gun)
Cons:
- Smart key undermines security. (my opinion) I got rid of mine.
- Fingerprint sensor can be buggy--you have to set your finger precisely on it for it to read. For daily access, it's not a big deal, but I would not rely off of opening it using that feature in an emergency. Just use the key pad. It's not like an iPhone fingerprint sensor.
- Setting fingerprints: The first two are easy, but the instructions were wrong on how to set the remaining fingerprints. After a lot of experimenting, I finally got all my fingers registered. Watch the video for step-by-step instructions. (your welcome)
Overall, it's a great safe especially if you have kids. I fit my subcompact EDC gun in here.
4/5 stars. Hope this helps!

This safe allows you to store one, count 'em, ONE handgun, and one mag. For less money, you can purchase a Vaultek safe that can store several guns, mags, money, passport... you just won't have the 007 feature of it popping out. I don't really see the advantage of this series of Vaultek safes, but everyone loves having options!

@@eastbayst9458 The Slider safe starts at $229 on Vaulteks site. You can purchase the VE20, without the fingerprint reader and bluetooth, for $169. The VE20 with bluetooth, but no fingerprint reader, is $190. Alot of people with the Vaultek safe with fingerprint readers say that they only work some of the time, and they wouldn't rely on them anyways. I understand everyone's needs are different. I just found the slider to be very restrictive, as far as how much it'll hold.

I’d see this for being valuable for people who have full sized gun safes, so the bedside safe need only hold one gun.

@@theexpatgunner Thanks for the reply. Though I’ve got security cameras I could see the WiFi version as handy to let you know if someone (house sitter or whoever) attempts to open it. I just purchased one for my M&P Shield 2.0 and Springfield Hellcat and they are too small for this safe. You can insert a piece of foam inside where the barrel would sit but then the handgun trigger guard will be outside of the foam making the handgun wabble. I'm returning it. Great video though! thanks.

If you are building something that might be required to open in order to save a life you do not cut corners to save less than a dollar on a spring. With a spring to weak to open the safe when empty, if it is not oriented down, I would give it a 3 star review at most. In other words it will not open reliably when empty if level, let alone oriented up as you would want in a car if mounted by the side of the center console. Just imagine how bad it will be with a couple pounds of pistol and ammo in it. Vaultek should either increase the spring tension or go to a motorized opening system, both will increase the costs but as is, it is not a product I would invest in.

I have a different model Vaultek, but I would imagine it's the same. Along with using the furnished key, if your battery should die, you can easily plug in a micro USB, which will give your safe enough battery charge to open it. My safe does not forget the combo, even if the battery dies. Then simply leave the safe plugged in for 2.5 hours and recharge the battery! Please remember, I don't have this safe, I have a different model, but I would be surprised if Vaultek made this safe less convenient then their earlier models.

They recommend leaving it plugged in all the time, and the wi-fi model goes in to power save mode by default when on battery- so the app only reports status last time the safe was “awake”.
