Vault Sessions: Eric Gales shreds a '51 Fender Nocaster (S3:E4)
In this episode of the Vault Sessions, we visit Eric Gales backstage at the Bigfoot Blues Festival in Tracy City, TN. Eric discuss his unique style, first riffs, and influences-- while demonstrating some jaw-dropping licks. Eric rocks one of our 1951 Fender Nocasters (Please note: the guitar title in the video is incorrect and states that the guitar is a 1952 Blackguard) through a 1956 Fender Vibrolux amplifier.
Season 3 is packed with great players so click the subscribe button for updates. Coming soon: Jerry Douglas, Jimmy Herring, Samantha Fish, Reignwolf, John Paul White, Sue Foley, and dozens more.
These sessions help keep the music alive by helping the Songbirds Foundation raise money to buy guitars for kids…check out our website to find out more- songbirdsfoundation.org. Thanks to our sponsors- The Riverview Foundation, Schillhahn-Huskey Foundation, GHS Strings, and Todd Sharp Amplifiers. Special thanks to Bigfoot Blues festival for letting the Foundation tag along! Eric Gales is my favorite guitarist. He can do no wrong.
There is no right or wrong way when you play that well
His nails so fleek!
The first of the Gales I heard was Little Jimmy King.A great player as well. RIP🙏😷❗🎸🎶🎵👍
I'm left handed and I play left handed. Guitars for me are hard to come by. Sometimes i wish I learned the same way he did so I could pick up anyone's guitar and shred away. This guys cool af
No more words 👍🎸🎸🎸🎸👍🎸
Can't decide whether I like Eric Gale or Eric Gales more so I'll just continue to listen to both of them.

At first I thought that must have been a lot of trouble restringing and setting up that vintage tele for a southpaw but then I realized it’s still strung righty lol

yep, it's a right handed guitar strung normal and he plays it upside down. His brothers forced him to learn to play this way, I am guessing there was a shortage of left handed guitars in Memphis in the late 80s and early 90s

Mr. Eric Gales HAS GOT to beat Covid19...he's too important to the world of guitar players to pass now...he's NEEDS to keep teaching us!!
Man I like Eric's sound
This guy is a beast 👍👍👍
THAT riff-Make a Dare.... just killer...wowow!
I grew up playing left handed on right handed instruments because that's what was around. I was determined to create what I could hear in my mind. Now I play left handed both inverted and traditional. My writing in either format is entirely different. Dual-Perspective is a wonderful thing.
I love that he paints his nails
I've just discovered this guys and I'm in love with him, what a player man!
Saw him on a Hendrix tribute tour. First things he said when came on stage was:” ladies and gentleman, this is no trick, No smoke and mirrors. I am playing this left-handed” Bought his cd outside the venue”That’s what I am”, great stuff.

I've hung out and jammed with Eric a few times and he's even better than anyone realizes. Like, I know everybody knows he's amazing, but he's seriously a true virtuoso that can play anything. I've seen him peel off country/bluegrass licks that would make Brad Paisley quit and I've seen him jam along to Slayer albums and play the solos better and more interesting (sorry Slayer..). This guy is an open channel of true virtuosity that people are unaware of. Glad to see him getting some attention and credit. Jam on, brother.
One of those guitarists that can't be imitated
I’m not surprised of this... where I grow up in Asia lots of guys left handed plays like this & they are good 😎
So much respect for this dude.
Simply incredible and mind blowing. Love this mans playing.

Schools out boys and girls EG is amazing
I'd read in biographies about Jimi Hendrix that he could play a right handed guitar UPSIDE DOWN. Not just having a right handed guitar flipped upside down with the strings strung left hand like he is famous for but playing the damn thing with the bass strings at the bottom and treble strings at the top. I thought it was tall tales and that nobody could actually do that. Until I met a dude in college when I was in a classical guitar ensemble and this dude was right handed and played guitar strong LEFTY. He said his dad was left handed and learned to play on his dad's guitar that was always strung LEFTY so that's how he learned. It was amazing to me.
Sweet chain. We was kangz!
Dude has such a crazy picking technique, really cool sound though.
You can taste it's sound
Hendrix started playing the same way! 🤘🔥🤘🔥
His first riff at 4yo.. some shit I can barely play now lol
Nasty stuff he got there I bet ppl in the church be like : “Uh uh Amen!”
When you string the guitar properly all you really doing after that is learning new chords (even though they're the same chords upside down). Then you can play both ways and have more chords up your sleeve than the other guy.
Support you Eric. I play just the same way but not as great as you are.
Its same like a moldi from Indonesia. Playing guitar use finger left , but not swapping the strings.
playing upside down , cause the right way is too easy 😁😁
Wow played upside because his brothers played that way I played that way because I’m a leftie and my brothers are right handed I changed over years ago but can still play a RH with chords
Dope ass dude with chains playing a telecsster. This doesn’t ass up

same. I also dribble a basketball with my right hand and shoot left handed....but it's not ambidextrous until I can do the same task with both hands
Every time I see Gales I flip my guitar over- just to see if I can play ONE lick... basically impossible. Not because the hands are switching places, but because the guitar makes no damn sense that way! Aaaaarrrgghh!!!!! And to think how GREAT Eric Gales is... it just makes me sick.

When we hire new guitar teachers, we ask them to try to play a left-handed guitar so they can remember what it is like starting from square one. Absolutely impossible:)
What is the name of the song he is playing in the second 52, please?
Always messes with my brain when I see him play...amazing player though ✌
I knew this dude was a church boy!
He said something I've often thought: Isn't it more logical for the dominant hand to be the one on the fretboard?

docbobster that’s why I play righty and am left handed.
How often does he clean those nails just wondering
Is there a right or wrong way to play guitar ?? There's so many different techniques and ways to play a certain song or to get a certain song
I want to see how he plays Master Of Puppets with this style)
Eric is just gifted you can’t play like Eric even if you practiced 10 years constantly !
@MrMakintosh100
4 жыл бұрын
I’m sure anyone would be just as good if not better if they did practice several hours a day for 10 years. The difference in those who are great and those who are not is that most people are not willing and disciplined enough to practice several hours a day for 10 years consistently. It’s not just the years, it’s the hours. The great ones are constantly practicing or jamming somewhere more often than they are doing other things.
@MrMakintosh100

Cory Paul Thats true. You shouldn’t want to play HIS style, because nobody can play HIS style better than him. You should want to play YOUR style because YOUR style can’t be taught either and nobody can play like YOU.
Awesome history. you are left handed and u can play right hand guitars without any problem. I'm left handed. I want to play and buy Gibson SG but the guitar shops never have left handed guitars. It's so sad lol
I bet he could play it right-side-up just fine.

Is he wearing nail polish on his right hand??
The playing left handed is fine but what is interesting about Eric is that he plays with the strings upside down. That's what is "wrong". Hendrix didn't even do that. Albert King did.
