Vata Kapha Diet 🌳 Dual Dosha Food List Program in Ayurveda

Diet for Vata / Kapha dual dosha will bring balance to both Ayurveda doshas.
The diet for Vata and Kapha dual dosha food list program will focus on what they have in common, what will bring balance to BOTH doshas.
As explained, everything comes back to the foundational elements; earth, water, fire, air and ether. Kapha is made up of earth and water. Vata is made up of air and ether. What elements are missing from both doshas??? FIRE. So in our diets, someone with a VK imbalance will want to focus on eating foods with more fire elements.
The elements are what make up the Ayurvedic 6 tastes. Vata and Kapha do not have any tastes in common, however they do best with tastes that contain the fire element. Pungent and sour are favored tastes simply because they are the two warmest tastes, containing the fire element and therefore will be the most balancing for VK imbalance.
*It is important to note that even when working to reduce and imbalance, one must consume all 6 tastes for ultimate harmony.

    that's me!!! i'm a so called "skinny fat". i'm naturally slim, but i gained weight in the past few years. funnily people still call me skinny and say "you should eat" as i have thin bones and long limbs but when i look in the mirror, i can see the difference between now and then, i'm completely out of shape. i tried keto a few times but was never successful, and i never understood why. i'll try eating according to ayurveda as much as i can, and i'll get back to you after about a month when you usually have visible results. i need to lose around 5-10kg(11-22 lbs), not more than that. wish me luck! 🥳

    I loved this!! Thank you! I’m a kapha-vatta constitution yet both of them are imbalanced as of right now, could I go by this as a staple to keep me balanced or is it best just to do this if I’m imbalance? I thank you for this cause now I’m more aware of what to eat to feel better.. I was half there, but was feeling stuck on how to approach this since I’m with complete opposite doshas 😊

    Inês G. Yay! So glad you enjoyed this. It’s important that when you’re in postpartum, do NoT restrict yourself. After birth your vata will have a tendency to spike from the experience and body stress, so I would focus on recovering properly, and then coming back to this after a few months :) Glad you enjoyed

    licorice tea! naturally sweet but not due to sugar content. also, if you really can't handle it, try some not so harmful artificial sweetners like sucralose, but honestly, if i were you, i would also work on my self discipline.

Could you let me know about EGG, GRAPESEED OIL, and OK ALTERNATIVE FLOURS , in relation to Vata- Kapha Dosha.? Also, for the oils you mention to avoid, is topical application of any of the oils ok?     Question about conflicting info...Hi Clare! I am just learning about Ayurveda and I did an extensive intake form on Joyful Belly (about 15 questionnaires) which gave me the VK imbalance. I also am "heavy" and "cold". And personally I think I'm also on the drier side. Taking these Ganas into account they gave me an extensive list like this and some "best" meals I could be eating. One was cooked apples for breakfast, and another was sweet potatoes and vinegar sauce, and another included red lentils. On the list you provided for VK you say to have these in moderation or even avoid those 3 (apples sweet potatoes lentils). I am curious if you can speak to the discrepancy as I am now confused. Does it matter how many meals to eat in a day or what time should you eat?     For a VK imbalance it’s typically best to have smaller meals more often. This helps ground Vata, but doesn’t aggravate Kapha. For lifestyle practices, it’s quite unique for every person and it depends which dosha you’re experiencing in the moment. Ie. You wake up super sluggish, practice vinyasa. But if you wake up anxious, a slow, restorative flow may be more appropriate. But above all, it’s important to eliminate ama before rebuilding.

    How about hemp hearts, are they OK? I've been doing a wild rice (or GABA rice), sprouted mung bean, and hemp heart mix, with a little under a tablespoon of ghee and an omega-3 supplement. Today is day 3 and I'm noticing less bloating and better digestion.

    I'm Vata with a kapha imbalance. I've been treating the imbalance but lately have been noticing much more anxiety = Vata rising. As you mentioned in the comment below it seems like I need to pay more attention to Vata. I will probably listen to this video a few times! Thanks!

    Cathy Scholl hi! Vata kapha combos are always fun :) but it’s important to always treat the imbalance, no matter your original constitution. If you have a kapha imbalance but are starting to feel flares ups from your mind (anxiety) I would focus more on establishing a daily routine, grounding yoga and meditation, rather than focusing on your diet. It is important to continually keep your agni strong. Sip on fresh ginger tea throughout the day. Fresh ginger is balancing for both kapha and vata :)

    Clareminded thanks so much for your reply. I’m reading it after just finishing my CCF tea with ginger. This morning I “restarted” my morning routine of meditating before turning on my phone. Thanks for confirming that I’m doing the right things 🙏 The diet though... is tough! I was so happy to discover that foods like almond butter, avocado, tahini, coconut and oatmeal were part of the Vata diet but extremely disappointed when I later found out that I needed to treat the Kapha (ovarian cysts) which meant all those foods were to be avoided! LOL. Since you asked for video suggestions, I would love to see some meal plan videos. I now know what I should be eating but it seems pretty boring 🙁

    Interesting. I thought I was a [fair lightweight rounded delicate anxious] vata kapha person, but ghee bothers me, and I do well beginning my eating window with a few dates! Hmmm Maybe I'll try a staight-up vata diet first and see if it even needs to be lightened up as here, God willing.

    It seems like so many of the foods that are meant to be best for me I can't ear: best protein = tempeh/tofu, which bring me up in blisters. Best vegetable = artichokes which are extremely high FODMAP and I'd just borrow them for a few minutes. Any advice, please?

    Do you have any videos for a Tridoshic diet? I had taken a test from Banyan only to find out (obviously enough) that my Kapha is imbalanced and both VP are elevated due to the imbalance. Spicy foods bode well for me but too much salty food does not. If I consume in excess of salty foods, my whole body will stiffen up like papier-mâché and excess water retention will follow. That said, I would love to see a video about it 😊.

    it truly depends person to person. You will typically want to focus on which ever dosha is more out of balance, while staying aware of the others and how they fluctuate within you.

    Really helpful and great content I am 16 years old and I have Vata Kapha dosha the thing happens is I have a bit constipation due to increased vata but when I take foods curing constipation it always helps me in digestion but also increase my kapha a lot. Pls suggest something. And being an cricket athlete I need to be high on protein but it always hinders my digestion and also increases vata and also kapha. Being a non veg guy I just have options for chicken mutton and eggs. And ya only even eating half scoop of whey hinders my digestion.Pls suggest some high protein foods through which I can build muscle and improve my performance. Would help a lot pls reply.

    I am mostly vata but intolerant to liquids and as I am pear shape very skinny, narrow and bony up and round and soft down I think I might have some kapha in there...that might explain why I cant take any liquids and need dry elements. I am very intolerant to spices and sourness though😅 am I a difficult case?😶 My taste is sweet and salty

    for a thorough diagnostics a practitioner is recommended. We are all all three doshas, just at varying amounts. So even if you have a dominant dosha of vata, you still have pitta and kapha within you. And any dosha can become out of balance. :)

    I took an online test, turns out I have more pitta attributes. Scored some 11 in pitta and rlly less in vat and kapha. But after knowing more about the individual doshas, although I had been changing all my life, I feel like currently, for now I am more kapha and vata. For eg, I'm rlly lazy, yet often my brain is hyperactive with impulsive thoughts. My mind is wandering. My body has so much inertia.

    yes chickpeas are great for kapha dosha because they carry the astringent taste, which is light and drying... perfect to balance kapha!

    🌻Hi Clare! My Ayurvedic practitioner believes I am a Vata Kapha combination, but that Kapha is out of balance. Does this video apply to me or more of a Kapha pacifying diet only?

    Hi Britt! Great question. No matter what in Ayurveda we always work to treat the imbalance. So even if you have a dual doshic constitution (prakruti), it's important to treat whatever dosha is out of balance (vikruti). So if you have a kapha imbalance, I would recommend treating that, but still being aware of your dual doshic constitution because you don't want to then push your vata out of balance. It may seem tricky, but I would recommend treating the imbalanced kapha, but stay conscious and aware if you feel your vata rising because of it. Does that make sense?
