On my big Tex trailer I run a big chain and padlock through the rims and leaf springs. Someone could cut it but they would need large bolt cutters or a grinder Plus the hitch has a good lock on it. They will go for someone else's trailer before mine. The large chain and lock is a fairly good deterrent

No lock will stop the most determined thief. One way or another, they'll get any sort of lock off. $100 light weight battery powered cutters can cut through most anything. It won't be silent, but silence isn't always required.

But don't they use MasterLock for the actual locking mechanism? Easy to pick?

@@jamesjames-cj2fx Actually, due to the tremendous loss of quality MasterLock has experienced over the past couple of years we have just revamped our product with a different brand of hasp and we now carry our own logo lock with with the Cobra-7 cylinder or the Abloy Sentry cylinder.

Provenlocks, like us are only able to be defeated with powertools. 99.99% of thieves will not want to take the time/make the noise required to defeat either of our locks as it draws a ton of unwanted attention. You really couldnt go wrong wither either option. Chad Odom, Ft. Knox Locks

You did have some locks, but now not so good. All the cheap locks are only made to sell.

@@Panda-vs7nx What did he tell you, Panda. I already had a bike rack stolen with a Master lock on it. I never even had a chance to use the bike rack once. I am just going to buy another bike rack and take it on and off when I need it. Stow in the car for when not in use. Unless. . . . there is a lock that will secure it for real.

We havent attempted an Amplock yet, from what we can see they look to be well constructed with hefty materials (or at least based on the price they better be made with high quality materials). if we can come across one not at sticker price ($250+ from what i can see) we may snag it up and put it to the test.

@@ft.knoxlocks4790 Agreed. I do like your locks too... just had my interstate 6x10 trailer stolen yesterday so I'm learning a lot more about locks today. Had that crappy red master lock on it. Not sure of the name of the tongue where the ball goes into on it. But that's the one I need a lock for, for the next trailer I guess I have to buy.

Proven Industries is the only lock out there that we consider to be any serious competition for our locks. They make a great lock and use basically the same locking system as us. They are more expensive but until they came around, we were the most expensive so I have nothing bad to say about them.

These locks are fine and all... but Trailers still get stolen all the time when they are hooked up to the vehicles towing them! This hitch pin locks and coupler latch locks are simply weak by design! They are too thin of metal to have any substantial strength, and they are very exposed when being used. I am waiting for someone to create a latch lock and a receiver lock that actually work! When you come up with a lock like that, then give me a call and I will give you my money.

Weld Pewag 12mm chains to the trailer in place of safety chains and padlock the chains to the truck using a couple Abus granite or abloy 362 padlocks.
