Variations On A Theme: Vol. 3 of TV Series Closing Music (1950s, '60s & '70s & beyond)

The end credits of television shows were often either slightly different variations of the opening themes or completely different musically (such as Fireball XL5 and the second season of The Monkees). Sometimes the music was the same but the endings had different graphics. I found over 150 closings with significant differences from the openers and packed them into four volumes plus a bonus volume, although several (The Rifleman, Leave It to Beaver and Thunderbirds, to name a few) were NOT allowed by the KZread copyright cops. Still, you'll be able to enjoy nearly 2.5 hours of wonderful music in the five volumes. They don't make 'em like these anymore. And be sure to look for the numerous guest stars listed in the credits!

This compilation stirs fond memories of growing up during this time. It was great to be a kid then. It wasn't all sunshine and lollipops but as the years fade my experiences I recall are the good ones. Thank you Fred for your time and effort you put into creating this for your fellow boomers or younger folks that want to see what these times were like.😊

Oh Fred, you had the tears flowing right off the bat (pun intended). This Week in Baseball was a major part of my youth, loving baseball as I did. I found that music in the KPM library, some years back. Tears subsided and a smile came as I watched, only for tears to come back near the end, with Wonder Woman, Spider-Man and Superman to finish it off. So many great memories, when television was worth watching. Thanks Fred.

We're in a good one because we start off with old school TWIB!!! Good to see that one again Fred. Eagerly awaiting volume 4. I always liked the Jack Davis artwork on the F Troop second season closing credits. On the Love American Style closing credits, the group credited as The Charles Fox Singers is actually the same one who sang on all the recordings by The Partridge Family. Re the Spider Man credits: Sadly, we just lost "Jazzy" Johnny Romita not long ago.

Another great compilation and thanks for including Star Trek in this one. There were a couple of surprises like Dragnet and Peter Gunn (by the great Henry Mancini) and then you closed with a superhero trifecta. One thing I did also notice was that a number of shows in this volume were produced at/by Desilu Studios which is a testament to just how powerful they were. A comparison to today's television would be that of Dick Wolf with 9 shows on 2 different networks. Looking forward to volume 4 tomorrow.

Thanks, again, Fred! I'm looking forward to the last two parts this weekend or whenever you release them. 5:30 - Possibly my favorite theme song from a show I've never seen, at least beyond credits on YT. I first heard it on one of my TV Toons tapes which I got back in the 1980s. I think I've seen another version of this closing which had much duller outro music after the main marionettes say their last dialogue. 6:35 - I thought that was a real woman at first glance, second glance I knew it wasn't. 12:25 - Jack Webb gave a lot of work to his ex-wife's new husband, Bobby Troup, casting him (and Webb's ex-wife Julie London) in EMERGENCY. Kent McWhirter was about to get a stage name, Kent McCord, when he was cast in ADAM-12. 13:20 - I love watching HAZEL (I've seen every episode now, mostly on FETV), but I can't stand the closing lyrics. I thought lyricist Sammy Cahn was lazy in having the lyrics repeat the same 4 words slowly. The lyrics only lasted about 8 episodes. This closing has to be from the sole color Season 1 episode about Hazel wanting a color tv set. Neat video from a Season 3 episode with a new 1964 Ford from a December1963 episode that I know I've seen at least once. I love the color Screen Gems sticks at the end, more than the later "S from Hell" logo.

Another round of pure gold tv themes! It's a shame YT won't let you run the DVD Show (I'm affraid to write the star's name as YT bots would probably censor my post!). Those two Gerry Anderson shows, Stingray and Fireball XL-5 had ending songs that could have made the Billboard with a little promotion. Hard to pick a favorite, but the Gunsmoke theme sure makes me dream of better times... But I could listen to all these themes all day instead of the mulch they have on radio these days. Red Skelton surprised me in a way because I thought he had been canceled before logo graphics adopted that lens flare approach pioneered by the 7Up commercials in the 70's.
