Vanilla Ice - "Cool As Ice" on Arsenio and partial interview 1991

Vanilla Ice on the Arsenio Hall Show promoting his new movie 'Cool As Ice' and the title song from the soundtrack. Found tape. Interview cuts off before it's over. October 1991 I think.

Love his music, but that movie (which I rented as a kid) was beyond meh. F it though. His music is where it's at, and I've never stopped being a fan. I went crazy watching Turtles and listening to has Ninja Turtles track. It was awesome. Go ninja go ninja go!

@@vBDKv The issue with VI wasn't hat he was flowing well, it was the sense he was appropriating what at that time was a proud and innovative black cultural evolution. VI was a white MSM show biz version of that and was widely resented for it. Previously in the late 80's. The Beastie Boys were just about tolerated as white suburban east coast jews on DefJam, the label that a lot of the most successful acts of the time were also on. Time has blurred all that and rap went to s*it a few years later with all the gangster darkness... VI is looking and sounding surprisingly good 30+ years later, especially when you try and listen to EPMD etc which hasn't aged well imo

By this point, Vanilla's whole origin story had been exposed as BS & he himself had been somewhat humbled by the media & the industry -- so there was really no need for Arsenio to come at him this time around. Within a year of this appearance, the horrible movie reviews & overexposure backlash would catch up to Ice anyways....
