I was taught early on to use an emery board to shorten reeds, which has the benefit of allowing you to maintain the shape of the edge of the tip of the reed.

@@eichlerphoto I was never taught that. I have never had much luck clipping reeds or shortening them in any way. This tool gave me the right tip shape and very fine adjustment tools. It’s a pretty hyper specific tool but a really good one

I like playing M15 mouthpiece but most V12 3.5 feel light and most of 3.5+ need stronger airstream than I like. Probably with the RT19 will be possible to find the sweet spot by slightly trimming the 3.5 reeds.

Excellent video. These item's are definitely geared towards the professional, but wonderful how useful they can be. On a side note, my Buffet Evette came in and it look and plays beautifully. Fresh cork so it was a tight fit but, that will work itself in. Haven't been so excited over something in such a long time. Thanks again for these videos, they have been a tremendous help. For example, my first two attempts to make a sound after assembling were squeaks until I remembered what you said in one of your videos. Checked and saw the reed was relatively wide gap between it and the window of the mouthpiece. Just a bit more pressure and bam, third attempt made perfect and beautiful sounds. Using a No 2 Vandoren reed and no airy-ness or distortion; each note coming out crystal clear and serene. If google allowed I'd be throwing pictures of the beautiful craftsmanship of such a vintage instrument in its condition all over the comments lol.

Thanks for your kindness and contribution to the community here! I am thrilled to hear that things are going well and that you are enjoying the new clarinet. It also feels wonderful to hear that my efforts to put useful and actionable ideas into the world is working. Yes, the reed trimmer in this video is hyper specific and really only needed by professionals,. I do hope that it contextualizes things and may be fun and/or useful in some tangential way to non professionals or people that have found a "sweet spot" in how they want to approach reeds that is not directly relevant to reed trimmers for a specific cut of a specific brand reed :) Glad things are going well with the clarinet!

Currently waiting to arrive number 3 to sandpaper them. 2.5+ V12s would be ideal for BG B3, but unfortunately don't exist. I've made a request to Vandoren to release intermediate strengths, at least on V12s. They said will consider It..

Thank you for posting this valuable video. Is it possible to adjust with German reeds with different end shapes and widths?

The only thing I would think would work is the German cut reeds that vandoren makes. There is a version of this that goes with those reeds. Other brands….I have no idea how effective it will be

OK, that's pretty cool, I have the old one you showed and no it doesn't really work with the V12's. worked great back in the day when I was using Olivieri's.

I am sure there is a tip shape that goes with the cordier better than what I have ever used. I have never used Olivieri…so that checks out with me:)

I don't know why, RT19 cuts the reed in much more rounded shape than original V12 cut.. And I had It another time in the past, same was happening, so returned It. Do I need to adjust it with the left and right wheel? I didn't mess with that yet.

I suppose it could be that the side to side adjustment needed to be messed with. Hard for me to say one way or another. It seems like it would still make basically the same shape either way

I wish I knew what to offer as an answer to that question! I would imagine that the company that you buy reeds from would have access to this product. Unfortunately, I don't have any specific help to offer:(
