    Monster is my favorite film of the year so far. I found it so captivating, and engrossing. I think I know which characters you're talking about, but I felt that ambiguity was apart of the questions you're left with. What's next for them and the repercussions of everyone's actions. I dunno, I cannot wait to see it again

    Might be my favourite of the year too! I always find it an incredible achievement when movies manage to honestly capture how difficult and strange being a kid is, and here the other perspectives really helped with that.

    @@Misspol222 I think he's referring to the teacher and mom. Essentially, the first two perspectives. I feel like the only reason he feels that way is because the last perspective is the most important and potentially longest? I'm not sure that's even true. But I agree with you, I felt very satisfied

  • @Misspol222

    @@KingOfHart34 ok I guess it kinda makes sense but I must admit I appreciate the way the story actually played out. I think it would have been superfluous if we had more of a "closure" or an emotional reunion between the mother and misato for example. For me, the highlight of both the mother's and the teacher's character arc was her realising the teacher was actually trying to help the boy, and them working together to try and save the kids. Anyway I really liked the story and the ending.

  • @KingOfHart34

    @KingOfHart34

    @@Misspol222 I agree. To me, it ended exactly where it needed to. Pondering what happens next felt like the point. As so much was done, said, and not said that drastically effected these individuals. There's no neat way to tie everything up. It's a very complex situation, and the true root of the story and its themes is the how to me.

    Funny enough, the 2011 riots were a sequel in itself. The Canucks lost in the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals and the fans proceeded to riot in 94' as well. So if the Canucks were to lose again, it would be a trilogy. I'm shocked Vancouver citizens didn't riot when the Canucks lost in 82' as well.

    A huge missed opportunity in the riot documentary was that they did not include a speculative piece on whether or not the riot would have still happened if the Canucks ended up winning. As a Vancouverite who heard so many details about the amount of merchandise stolen during the riot for days after it happened, let me tell you that it DEFINITELY would have still happened. There was a report that about a few million dollars of merchandise being stolen from one of the bigger retail shops. No disorganized group of drunken hockey fans is going to be capable of lifting and moving that much merchandise in that short a period of time- that was a professional job. There have been past occurrences where organized criminal boosting squads have used the cover of riots to carry out mass thefts of valuable goods and I am willing to bet that the riot would have been incited by operators within that syndicate to draw attention away from the area where they were doing the shoplifting.

    Btw, i wanna point out that the renaming of certain things by food chains during the playoffs is something that happens all the time. Last year alone, the Boston Pizza closest to thr Scotiabank Arena in Toronto briefly changed its name to "Auston Pizza" after Auston Matthews. Here in Edmontonwe almost changed the name of the one nearest Rogers Place to "Kostin Pizza" after (now former) Oilers forward Klim Kostin. Thats actually a way to build hype and cash in on said hype during the playoffs. I agree though that the decision to change the Boston Cream one in particular is weird, but the point still stands.

    I still have not seen movies from like 2 - 3 years ago that have not been released or are locked in some way, and I hate that that's just how the industry is, hopefully we can enjoy some of these movies sooner rather than later.

    Man, I was there at the start of the game (across the street from the Library) to the beginning of the riot to the torching of the cop cars at that parking lot between Cambie and Beatty. (Left after that, didn't take part in any actual rioting as I had my expensive SLR with me, wasn't going to break that) It was interesting to see the crowd dynamics as the situation devolved (and also to flee from an exploding car). Hell, I saw a younger guy dressed in black run over to the two cop cars at that Cambie parking lot with a rag and accelerant, who knows if he was there originally or if he came after seeing the riot go down. The crowd spotted those cop cars and swarmed like a pack of 28 Days Later zombies. A woman jumped on top and flashed her tits before the fire went off. There's so much that one could talk about from just that beginning phase before it moved into the actual looting. I have dozens of pictures from that day. A shame that documentary seems to be so surface-level.

    Correction: The Canucks didn't lose to the Bruins in 2011, the Canucks lost to the refs, the fact the head of all referee's son was on the Bruins, and that Gary Bettman hates Canada, Canadian hockey, and the thought we could win a Stanley Cup more than North Korea hates free speech.

But it’s been more than a decade and I’ve gotten more media literate since then, and I have no idea if it was actually good. I still have the dvd though, while having no way to play it.

    Alot of times it makes it easier/cheaper to edit in post It also takes into account how not all theaters use a set "standard" in terms of calibration and makes it less likely for the movie to be screwed over in how its projected upon release

    Red Rooms was intense holy moly. That particular scene though... Nevertheless it was so well done it creeped me out as hell. The casting choice was perfect. The whole tone of this movie was not easy to watch considering the dark subject. One of the best disturbing movies I've seen so far. But don't watch this in the wrong mood.
