VAN TOUR: 72yr SOLO FEMALE lives VANLIFE in a SKOOLIE

Have you ever unexpectedly come upon something simply too amazing to pass by without taking a second look. Well, that is exactly what happened to me today. I was in my van minding my business when out of nowhere I see this short pastel yellow skoolie with the most brilliant psychedelic colors hanging in the window. I immediately thought the owner of that bus has got to he the coolest person, and I was right. I stopped, rolled down my window and spoke to a striking woman standing next to the bus asking if she was the owner of the bus. When she said yes that was all I needed to hear. I hopped out of my van to meet the most incredible woman named of all things Carol! She is a 72 year old nomad with an amazing history full of travel and adventure tales going back to her teens. When I asked her if I could do a tour of her van she was only too happy to oblige, totally making my day and I think yours too when you see this video. Upon entering Carol's van it was like stepping back to my youth. It had these beautiful brilliant psychedelic window hangings reminding me of "hippies" I often encountered and sometimes in my wildest dreams aspired to be growing up in the Berkely/San Francisco Bay Area in the 60's and 70's. In fact, Carol called herself an original hippie. I think you will love this skoolie van as much as I did. Carol and I hit it off so well that we plan to a little cooking together in the future. Seems like nomads should get together (like in groups), and jointly buy some reasonably priced unrestricted land for places to settle down, and live in their vans, buses, etc. giving a little of the same lot/land to each other for a parking place. Maybe build a shower house on the land too.

Very nice rig. I love that she is doing this at her age. IM 59 and after I beat Kidney Cancer I sat around for a while watching youtube. Then at 57 I sold everything or gave it away. Bought my 25 foot class A Winnebago Warrior motorhome and started living and traveling with my little dog Tinkerbell now for a little over 2 years. I have traveled over 30,000 miles through 8 states. So I love it. Keep on keeping on. Glad your out here on the road.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your story❤❤❤ I started watching videos like this almost 5 year's ago, and I knew in my heart someday I'd own a van, I didn't know when, but just knew it would happen, my great aunt Peggy passed away last Sept, I bought her van from one of my cousins April 2! And named her after her❤ we may be older girls, (she's a 1999 F-E150) and I just turned 50 in January of this year😄! BUT! There's still plenty of life left in us! And we are planning many adventures in the near future!!! Prayers up and much love always my road sailing sister✌🌎❤

Thnx for ENCOURAGING us to not give up living the vanlife...72? Cool, im 68 and poor health for 2 yrs. Had pneumonia twice..im having a hard time keeping things organized, and uncludderness. For the past year ive been giving up almost everyday. Im not a quiter...im living in a minivan too, but i need a cheap RV for more room and something i can walk around in...in stead of sitting in my van all the time...thnx sweetie for helping me with hope...

@@silentecho4445 Being able to stand up is certainly a great deal easier. Until you can get a vehicle that allows you to stand up you might want to check out a video called Mini yet Mighty for ideas on how to better organize your minivan. Take care and God Bless.

We are failing as a nation when in one of the richest countries in the world our elderly are forced out of housing due to skyrocketing rent and need to live in a vehicle. She is lucky to have done this before, and has the skills to do it through her life experiences, but I can think of many elderly people who don't, and would be hard pressed to survive. Good for her for making the best of it and for enjoying her new home. It is beautiful!

If you do some research, you’ll find that we’re trillions of dollars in debt. That’s not considered “rich” by any means. As a country, we have NEGATIVE net worth.

@@Ekinnajay How can an entity have billions to spend when it is in “debt”. 👉🏼 That’s like saying you have $10,000 in credit card debt, but have a $11,000 credit line so you have $1,000 to spend and “you’re rich”. 😂 5th grade math tells me that you’re not “rich” and “you don’t have $1,000 to spend”. We are NOT the richest country, we are trillions in debt. DEBT = negative wealth. NOT “RICH”. Geez, it’s not that complicated. Haha

Having debt doesn't mean you don't also have money. But hey, thanks for 'splaining it to me *eye roll*. Maybe you should move on from 5th grade and try middle school.

I really do think Carol is enjoying herself. Despite what led her to live in a skoolie she definitely does not view herself as a victim.
Oh she's FANTASTIC! When you see her again, would you do another tour and let her walk us through it? Because it was built by an artist who loved it and she clearly appreciates all of his artwork, I would bet there are a ton of hidden touches that would not be spotted at first but that she would want to show off. I am so glad you stopped and talked to her! Great video!!

We do plan to get together in the future and that is a great idea. When I encountered Carol this time she was in a hurry and informed me she just had a few minutes to spare. So, I tried to respect her time. Next time we will have more time as we will schedule it. Thanks for your comment.
She does have a great spirit and can do attitude. But I agree Daniel. Certainly it would be better if this lifestyle was a choice.rather than a necessity,.at any age..
How fun!! Love it! I'm 60 and part time in my van now. She represents 72 year old goals for me...The clock made me laugh out loud, and pretty birchwood stick and closet, over toilet any day!! :)

Your interviewing skills are great. Very approachable, open, you let them talk and you listen. 😁 In a really cool world this woman with her schoolie would make an appearance on Grace and Frankie. I can easily imagine the episode. I’m sure she’d get along with Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda easily 😊

Thank you so much for your truly gracious comments. I have spoken with Carol since this interview and I'm telling you the things she shared with me about her life are truly amazing. I felt like I was talking to a living version of Auntie Mame!! It was just a delight listening to some of her adventures and an inspiration.

The rents here in Prescott, Arizona have gotten way out of hand in the last few years too. I have hear from other people across the country and in Canada too that rents are just outrageous.

She is clear calm & makes her questions quick Short den👂moves on2 anada question With an an air of easy flow its calming & doesnt interrupt Most people cannot do a great inerview without interrupting prolonging a simple?2 da point & cannot wait till the person finishes👏 she also knew when2 stop the questions!

I was a tad bit anxious Nancy as Carol had told me before we started the interview she only had a few minutes to give as she wanted to get to her next destination before dark. So, I really wanted to respect her time, but still give my viewers an interesting and informative interview. I'm so glad you enjoyed the interview and tour.

Hi Jonnie! I actually built the bus to be my Summer bug-out bus for surf, scuba, and kayak trips, and never intended to do cold weather trips (at least not freezing temp trips). But I did eventually do a few freeze yer azz off trips, and my buddy heater kept me alive. But no... no way would I attempt to use it for winter living in cold zones. I do have friends (skiers and snowboarders) who fully insulated and have heat/stove systems for that purpose. Maybe my next bus will be all-seasons. Cheers!
What a wonderful interview and walkthrough of this wonderful woman's bus. The two Carols what a coincidence...I've spent a lot of time over the years watching videos of people living in vans it absolutely fascinates me (Bob Wells is great). Hahahaha! I *LOVE* her clock -- I want one like it!! Quite original - there are so many good ideas in there. This is the size/style skoolie I have seen on my daily drives and have been imagining as a build out.

Hi there. Just found you, so this is first vid I have watched and it was great. Hubby and I are seniors, been full time nomads for a year in a built out cargo trailer which will still be our toad for storage, and contains our full sz shower. We are skoolie owners since first of October and are converting to the skoolie. We will be in the Q in Dec. We will look for you two, please watch for us. We will have stickers on the bus. That counter top is to die for, where is this man??? I love the height, the space, so much about it! It's fabulous. Expenses, insurance, repairs. Staying warm, yankee tip: sleep in puffy ski pants and a puffer jacket. Company store town below you and above you. You'll be in a cloud. But never want to get up.lol😊 Carol you are wonderful!😊

Thanks Joel. She was indeed a live wire and so much fun. As far as the propane, not that long ago it was on the news about a man who died in his RV from carbon monoxide from a propane heater!! I just want to make sure that anyone planning on the nomad lifestyle doesn't take any deadly risks.

I love the scoolie tour and the whole interview. But I would have appreciated it more had Carol the interviewer asked Carol the interviewee a little bit of her personal or family background; you know, how is she all alone (not lonely) at age 72? Good luck on your journeys, Carols. Cheers!

Frase, I was able to talk to Carol recently and learned that although she has had some close relationships, she has never married and has no children. She does have a close relationship with other family members. However, based on her fierce sense of independence would never want to be dependant on them. She has lived a very full and adventurous life and highly values her freedom. I plan to do a follow-up interview after she has.been on the road in her skoolie for several months.

I think I might have a "crush" on this wonderful lady - though I'm only 64, I've always been attracted to older women. ;-) Seriously, she's attractive in so many ways - a wealth of knowledge, real world experience, and sharp as a tack! Only criticism... tofu! Ackk! Nice skoolie too - as a SUV & tent dweller, I'm just a bit jealous.
