VAN LIFE | GENIUS DIY Homemade Campervan - Ford Transit Conversion

Lindsey and her father built this gem in about a year so she can travel full time and work from the road. One of the biggest struggles in the build was the winter weather in Michigan. The chassis is a 2018 Ford Transit Eco Boost gas. I bumped into her while biking in Myrtle Beach South Car

    As an engineer I can fully appreciate the clever use of materials and common sense approach of this DIY build. Very well thought out with great attention to detail. This young lady is really knowledgeable on all of the workings of her vehicle, very hands on. Each aspect is a wonderful surprise of multi functionality. It is truly a work of art with excellent workmanship, Congratulations and a credit to all who contributed to one of the best builds on Stealth Van Living I have come across so far. Practical and certainly purpose built. Well done. Look forward to progressive updates on how it works out. Cheers from Michael. Australia.

    @@NewJerseyOutdoorAdventures Hi I am a nurse too. I was wondering if there is a way to reach out to her and her spreadsheet and floor plan. Her build is a very good template for me, ie her electrical and plumbing thingies. I would, as another viewer said, make a toilet and shower space..

  • @nancynurse

    Loved the thin pine ceiling, the "sealed" container for propane tank (with a hole in floor for venting), and the "bathroom shower" poles holding the kitchen baskets in place. Well thought out and doesn't look/feel cramped and cluttered.

    As a 70-yo full-time caregiver, van life isn’t a possibility at this point in time. But I think about it a lot in the event it would be possible “someday.” Seeing this build, the order, simplicity, and restfulness of what Lindsay has achieved here brought mist to my eyes and somewhat took my breath away at one point. I saved this video in my recently-created Van Conversion Ideas playlist. Thanks much for such a well-done video, and to Lindsay for sharing so well and “hospitably.” I subscribed today!

    People are always thanking Vets for their service. Who of course are important. Yet To me nurses are the most important people in our society. They help everyone when they are at their weakest. They work long hours,handle the grossest things, deal with death and illness all while working to help people heal and do it with limitless compassion. I could tell what this girl did by her personality 3 sentences into your interview . I thank God for humans like her

    The vast majority of RVs are not built for living in. They don't have the durability, nor do they have all of the necessities for living fulltime. They are built for a vacation once a year in pleasant locations with vacation weather.

  • @peterm.eggers520

    @peterm.eggers520

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@gerrynightingale9045 Airstream is at the high end of RVs and 2 weeks is not considered "living in". Antifreeze in the grey water tank makes it a blackwater dump. Having to put anti-freeze in either tank is just one of the many hassles trying to actually live-in an RV. Forced air gas furnace (typically propane, ideally using fuel from the tank) tends to be used at very high rates due to lack of real insulation and design in RVs. OK for vacations, expensive and causing other problems as you found out. When you live year-round in an RV, you will understand why people do custom builds.

    Very very cleaver use of space. I see so many people who just throw a giant bed in the back and that bed takes up like 80% of the space. It's also really genius to have easy access to all the guts of the van. Many people hide that away and seem to forget that some day you might need to repair or replace stuff. Patrick, HELLO,, This is a wonderful home build ,now, it’s NOT FAR FETCHED an idea of NURSES on the move, actually the first ones were ‘TINY HOMES’. Some were trailered by heavy pick ups, & some were professionally transported to the NW, stationary , so she has solar, 12volt & 120volt via inverter, + charged as the engine runs. Just wonderful,,,, Cheers From NJ🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

    Awesome job! Everything looks really well thought out! Lindsey Taber do you have more info on the bike storage? Do you use quick release pedals, do you do anything special with the handle bars to make disassembly quicker? Would love some rough dimensions on that garage. I’m planning my build now, and your bike storage solution looks much better than storing them standing up like most conversions I’ve seen.

    @@devoncrews374 Thank you! I had been really frustrated by only seeing upright storage under a platform bed. I knew I wanted a comfortable sitting/living space too and I'm absolutely loving how it turned out. 15.75" from lowest metal floor rib to the underside of the platform 55" deep 61" at its narrowest opening (between the van door frame I started using a pedal wrench and found it was do-able but super annoying so I did switch to pop-off pedals! I got these for my mountain bike: flatbike.com/product/mtb-pop-off-pedals/ I carry a second bike for when I'm traveling with a friend and got these at half the price of the ones above: www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07FDVDPXD/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1 There are many more options for pop-offs for road cycling but I've been really happy with both of these.

    What is refreshing to see is that a woman knows all the technical stuff and can guide you solo through the tour. What a joy to see that. Way to go, sister! A fine van build and lots of creative ingenuity in storage, colors, mods. Lovely van. I like the little office area, very nice workspace. I find that in commercially made vans, they still create 1950's style dinettes which I absolutely hate. I converted my dinette (ripped it out!) into a long desk, cabinets, and work space. So much better and can be used for dining, working, or hobbies. This is the way to go. Strawfoot window covers full set for Ford Transit runs $1300 - $1600. Ouch! It costs $100 to buy a vintage Viking sewing machine that goes thru thick fabric (6030 model or 6000 series), and you get some Sunbrella type material, sew it onto Thinsulate and done. It won't cost anywhere near that amount even at retail prices and tools. If you want to use a short cut, use IKEA blackout curtains as raw material, they are always on sale in the AS IS section. Sunbrella does not fade though. Do not sew in any bubble wrap like Reflectix which is not washable and degrades.

    This build is fantastic. Lots of smart and innovative choices, didn't really skimp on anything (relative to other vans/rv builds) and the out of pocket cost of $10k sounds low, considering all that was done. The only thing I'd change is the sink foot pump, which is an easy fix. Hard to believe this was her first try. Very impressed.
