    I agree with the screen time, although I'm guilty of doing it myself. When I'm camping I generally sleep better and so does my dogs. At home, I have trouble with sleep. So this year we have 3 camping trips planned, but don't tell the dogs, they don't know yet🤣🤣

    The final scene of your "night" van is superb, total serenity enhanced by comforting, subdued lighting. When you are not using Lady Bugout, you could probably rent it out via airbnb and advertise it as a return to the womb, cozy comfort at its finest. I use the same apps to find places to sleep. Good idea about visiting the tourist office for advice. Once in a while I go to a ranger station for advice but I will make an effort to stop in tourist offices also, which reminds me that I will be home from India soon and will probably go on a Southwest road trip. Perhaps I could be the first one to rent Lady Bugout, if you will not be using her for 6-8 weeks. I sleep in the back of my Jeep. At night, I just move everything to one side or to the front. Once that is done, my bed is ready. I have window screens and fans which are helpful in the Southwest. Lots of good ideas for a good night’s sleep in this video. You should be a teacher with your excellent planning and presentation skills.

    Hey Dee, I finally became a Lovliness. I have watched your videos over and over for inspiration. And you may have saved Jerry (partner) life, I know so dramatic. I first travel in my Honda CRV and Jerry removed my back seats and passenger front seat and build a platform for Buddy (dog) could look out the window and have room, that was easy. Well I bought a 2012 Ford Transit, inspired by you and showed him your video on how to remove the passenger seat. Well apparently there is a special connector to by pass the airbag I think that's what he said and it might have gone off. So thank you for possibly saving Jerry from a disaster. I have been looking and looking for decorating ideas, and by far your transit is the best. I might be borrowing some of your ideas. Be safe out there. Victoria

    Question...for light sleepers, how to best block sounds outside when windows are cracked for ventilation, and to maintain one's safety? Love the idea to listen to podcasts instead of screen use.

  • @LadyBugout

    @LadyBugout

    4 ай бұрын

    Good question! I actually am a very light sleeper. Location is important. Some repetitive sounds can be helpful. There are white noise yt videos that will play all night which can serve to distract from any outside noise. Depending on your vehicle, you can have metal louvres that will be an added safety measure. I made some that I use in areas that I feel I need the added security.

    Dee, for me, when I am van camping, just being in nature and having the feeling of freedom helps me go to sleep. Even at a truck stop. Freedom. Definitely helps me by cutting down on every day worries. And another plus is if you don’t like the neighborhood, it doesn’t cost anything but some gas to move.

    Depending on the oder you like, it can help to having your sheets washed with a relaxing oder, the oder you like obviously. Or even the oder which you favourite granny wore, or yur father. Make it nice and cozy, having an hot water bottle or so. Also colours will mean something to have and get a goodnight sleep. When you like yellow, orange and those kind of colours, do not use them or way less in your sleeping area. Put on a sleep timer radio or some sort, play easy to listen to songs. I can't name you songs, but jazz and the classic sound (violins etc) work for me extremely well. Dee has said it in the video also a nice and gentle breeze will help. Ever tried sleeping nearby a river? Or when rain poors down on your van? That will help aswell. Don't eat just before you go to sleep, it will keep you awake much sooner. Find your moments and your place to sleep. Meaning when crowded with lots of music, sleeping may become an issue. Find a tranquil area. People, I am almost falling asleep speaking about sleep, besides that is almost all I know about my personal way, how and where and when I sleep best.....

If I may suggest one or two small things I find that having a routine to put things makes life easier especially when going to sleep A torch is always at hand My car keys are always in the same place every night I always spray my yeti for midges before I get in Preferably if possible 10 minutes before. I have a midge netting screen over my back windows to lower the windows, just a couple of inches, which provides across draft I have the louvres same as you so no rain comes in. Great advice! Luckily, I haven’t had a problem falling asleep in the van. The only thing that makes it difficult, if not impossible for me to fall asleep is not having the van level. I really don’t like having my head lower than my torso. I’ll either switch ends, or move the van to a more level location.

    @@LadyBugout I haven’t seen a video on how long someone doing the van life stay in one area or place. My trip was multipurpose but only used my encore for living space while gone. Storage and too much clutter was an issue. Took shower at at a gym and chose different locations to sleep. Took my ten year old Jack Russel Annie who loves being in a vehicle with me. Would love to see the country this way but not in any financial strain, just appealing in some ways. My property is for sale so weighing options.

    I normally sleep 6 to 9 hours every night. MY TIP: My amount of sleep depends on how many steps I've taken during the day. My goal is 10,000 foot steps a day. Usually I make10 to 12,000 steps. One day last week, I did 16, 000 steps (seven miles for me). That night, I slept like a dead man for ten hours. - Exercise is critical for me to sleep well. I wear an ankle step counter for accuracy. My weekly step total is in the neighborhood of 80,000 total steps; about 32 miles for me. - *I like to live out of my van; not so much in my van.* My van is more like a "bedroom on wheels," not so much a be all home. -

    Question: Do you ever sleep the other direction if it is too hot or too cold and you want to have your curtains drawn all the way across the front? I would think your feet wouldn't mind it and your head could be in the middle section. I am planning to finally take out the front seat. We got a second FTC and we will keep two seats up front in that one for when we go together. That frees me up to remove one, and I am trying to think through how it will work.
