Josh Gallagher, Luke Gallagher and Sal Abate covering one of the most powerful anthems of all time, Van Halen's "Dreams" from the "5150" album. This song has had a HUGE impact on me and is actually my earliest introduction to Van Halen. I was a diehard Power Rangers kid in the late 90s so one of my earliest memories is hearing this song in the credits of "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie" and I loved it then just as much as I do now! It's definitely my favourite Hagar era track and for me there are very few songs that can match the triumphant power of "Dreams". This is also the first video in which I have filmed myself playing full bass and keyboard tracks. I'm so proud of this cover and I hope you enjoy it!
Sal Abate - Vocals
Luke Gallagher - Electric and Acoustic Guitars

@@adinugroho_ITS I've listened to that cover you've recommended out of pure curiosity and man I can't say a good word about it. It's played too fast, guitarist doesn't hit the right notes sometimes and maybe vocal seems quite near to the original because of the voice timbre, but guy is starting to choke in the half-way of the song cause of high notes. As for me cover by joshkosh95 is technically a masterpiece.

Sammy's style uses a lot of chest voice while the singer here uses a lot more head voice that's why he sounds "thin" (like Axl Rose or Sebastian Bach). It's much easier to your voice box to sound thin when singing high notes. But how it fits to the song is a different question.

Listen to him strain on the studio version of Dance the Night Away never mind anything he ever did live. If your statement was that the DLR era was a better version of VH I see the argument. They were essentially two different bands with two different messages. But from an instrumental, lyrical and vocal perspective they are not even in the same universe.

There's a few different components to this cover, so I'm going to pick it apart. Ok, first off. Whoever is in guitar, BRAVO! EVH is often imitated, seldom "duplicated". I think I just witnessed that solo being duplicated. And if it wasn't technically spot on, it was about as close as any mortal can get lol 👍 Secondly the drums are freakin perfect. AVH would be proud. I like the combo of the electric toms & acoustic snare, bass & cymbals. Just like on the original 1986 recording, and Alex's setup for the 5150 tour. The keyboard, and vocals were also amazing. I really tried to find something wrong with this cover, and found nothing! Absolutely incredible job by all! 👍🤘

It took me a long time, but I eventually got it. My HS boyfriend and I, together with our other friends, played this during a school event. He had really long, straight, shiny hair- And I, on the other hand, had super short hair. Boy, I miss those days. Now, I'm in my 40's and suffer from multiple sclerosis due to lesions in my spinal cord and my brain. I can hardly write or type, let alone play the drums. That's why I love videos like this one. It feels good to reminisce. Thanks so much for sharing. Sending you positive thoughts of love and support from the beautiful Philippine Islands... Sincerely, Francine Hope Drilon @};---

They are awesome and better than the nowdays Van Halen. I totaly agree man! The soul is out of the real Van Halen. Sammy and Michael Anthony were the soul in that band. And they just swept aside. But Chickenfoot is the result and to be honest I think I like Chickenfoot even more :-)

I love this!! The attention to detail is killer! Drums especially! So many people hated the electronic/acoustic hybrid thing from the 5150 album. This nailed it!!

  • @JPGroleau

Many people hated it, but it became a signature for the 5150 sound. I can't imagine songs like "Dreams" or "Why can't this be love" with another drum sound. Those electronic drums back in the 80's were massively used in pop songs and disco from early 80's and they always sounded ridiculous. Alex Van Halen was the only one doing a good job using them in rock music ! I still love (and own) an old simmons e-kit from the 80's, because they are part of history and I'm glad to own one. However, i can say that they often sounded ridiculous. But I loved them in 5150!
