Vampires (Mysterious Legends & Creatures #4)

Ойын-сауық

Vampires have loosely existed within folklore as early as Mesopotamian legends, but their place in our physical world was said to have sprung about a few hundred years ago and were commonly associated with disease, death and the plaguing of small towns.

I think modern media did a disservice to them, by making them look like the fashion bloggers of the monster world, removing that aura of terror and doom that accompanied them in their folkloric origins. People should be scared to death by the prospect of meeting a vampire, not... Enticed...

While I agree that I miss the pure bad ass vampire stories, with the right type of plot a beautiful vampire could be even more terrifying. They entrap the victim and pull down the defences before feeding on them. This could lead to some very tense scene. But the whole "I want a vampire as a boyfriend/girlfriend" bullshit is tiring for an old school horror fan.

@@monstermash8047 I think vampires shouldn't be pretty by default, as I like the few times they are presented as a real, terrifying threat, and I'd love a lovecraftian-esque representation of them. Of course there could be those who feign beauty to entrap their prey, but I think that, as the embodiement of the fear of disease and contagion, they shouldn't be pleasing to the eye, but rather give the sense of impending, inevitable death.

I can certainly see the value in your argument. Still, I believe that vampires, like any fictitious creature, can be depicted anyway the author wants them to be. I suppose the people who made things like Twilight, the Vampire Chronicles, True Blood, etc. just find the idea of being in love with an immortal creature of unnatural beauty enticing. Maybe it hasn't been to do with the idea that vampires are sexual predators. Maybe it's just that a lot of teenagers nowadays go for "bad boys." Who can say.

Here's a fun fact about Bram Stoker's Dracula: Bella Lugosi was, in fact, a Transylvanian, but from the Hungarian Kingdom. Also, vampires, called strigoi back here in Romania are phonetically similar with strzyga, derived from Poland and East Germany. The word is derieved from the Greek striga, meaning owl. The fact that modern vampires turn into bats was likely propelled by Stoker because vampire bats where being discovered back in his day. So Dracula should have been turning into an owl.

I wonder if premature burial of people who were still alive and them digging themselves out of the grave is the origin of the rising from the dead legends. They didn't have the technology to tell if someone was actually dead or just unconscious or in a coma. They probably buried people alive fairly regularly and anyone buried in a haste or not deep enough could have dug themselves out so that's why death rituals were so imperative

Blood is symbolic for the energy that flows around living things. It carries vitality and if you lose a lot of it you get tired, just like if you lose a lot of blood... Vampires never literally drank blood, they steal other peoples energy! What happens if someone steals all your energy? you have to get more from someone else, hence why if you get bit by a vampire you become one. It's all symbolic, not literal, but these are stories about real phenomenon.

Christopher Lee was the one who gave Dracula his dark, seductive charm despite the said character appearing one dimensional by Bram Stoker and the dumb storylines written by Hammer Films after the first movie came out. Bela Lugosi was also sinister in addition to being eccentric, although I always felt like he was quite playful, while Count Orlok from the Nosferatu movies looked outright disgusting. The Twilight vampires were a real headache in addition to being ridiculous and annoying.

Probably. An interesting story though that makes vampirism less fictionous. Especially the part of the mother that killed the baby as if the mother killed the child then buried her out of the little humanity that existed. My opinion is that vampirism is a blood disorder which called for red blood cells to be regularly attained. Whether the individual is undead or not is beyond me.

Im pretty sure in Werewolves the Alpha would just be the leader of the pack, Maybe the strongest/ fastest of the bunch. For Vampires do not really think it would be considered an Alpha per say unless you consider the Original Vampires who turned hundreds of people into Vampires to work under them. I can definitely see there being the weakest on both sides, like Werewolves that get stuck in there wolf form and lose any form of intelligence they once had. Maybe certain people who become a Vampire by accident might turn more into a Blood Fiend a lesser monster that lives only to feed and loses all other desires then just hunting down blood.

I short time ago, I thought about writing a short story or mini-series that used vampire "facts", such as the most common instances of folklore involving how they functioned and how to fight/kill them. That way, I would a pretty solid base to write the vampire characters on. One thing I discovered was that the reason why wood was used was because metal, specifically iron, was expensive for commoners. Which is why iron was eventually used as a material that harmed/killed vampires. The people saw it as an extremely valuable commodity, so they associated it with power. I have heard and read all of this but I wonder if previously advanced people knew that, "The blood is the life,". In the way that it is? The oldest mummies showing the interstitial blood cells still live. Recent findings now. But could people have known that before, long long ago? I also read that Vampires used Obsidian mirrors to be able to see themselves. Also, could it not be like all the E. T. Alien propaganda in that can't be in sunlight, must have invitations to enter one's homes, some that read minds or control victims, etc? As a cover for something possibly be real but not in the ways we read or hear about? I think Vampires will be another thing that remains as much a mystery as Aliens, Atlantis, Werewolves, etc. Very very interesting topic though. I know people who can no longer go out in direct sun light without full coverage with clothing and sunscreen and umbrellas. Their skin turns yellowish and begins to blister painfully. I have seen it. Had I not been educated and knew about Vampires the first time I saw that happen to a person, I most likely would have believed maybe, possibly, they might have been Vampires too. I also read certain cultures believed all Gods/Goddesses had Vampire like teeth and would occasionally drink the blood of humans. I found that to be odd. Wondering if it were another thing that contributed to Vampires, drinking blood, and immortality. Awesome video. Thank you.

Bram Stoker was an Irish author who was entranced by the stories of vampire folklore, his mother would spin stories, the Irish are known for all sorts of interesting stuff like that . Albeit there’s a lot of cultures of the world that have their own vampiric folklore, but he was the one that took the original story of Dracula and very much “ romanticized “ it . The original Vlad Dracula was not exactly a vampire, he was doomed to be immortal because of his love for his wife. But he also is considered a Savior of sorts to the Romanians . He defended the Orthodox Church. I think it’s terrible that people nowadays still believe that Vlad Dracula, ( meaning “ Son of the Dragon “ ) is the back story of today’s “ vampire “ , so to speak. It’s downright disrespectful to the Romanians , sure it’s the alluring story that draws tourists in , but c’mon now. It’s an age old “ love story “ , before Romeo and Juliet, or Tristan and Isolde, there was Vlad and Lydia .

However, in Stoker’s original novel, it EXPLICITLY states that Vampires CAN move in daylight, but their superhuman abilities go into a dormant state while doing so.

Honestly most churches nowadays are essentially powerless, this may sound crazy but i have some sensory gifts when it comes to areas and places but no gifts of sight, for me when i step onto consecrated grounds i feel the purity, sacred ground just feels like "nothing" and gives you the idea "i need to leave now" ive not set foot on tainted ground so i wouldn't know, but the vast majority of churches and graveyards supposedly hallowed or consecrate i literally feel nothing because the priest who created the blessings is powerless

It's true vampire exists. Lemme tell uall a true story that goes on in our village. In our village there lived an old local spirit talker. She was spiritually very powerful and could talk with the unseen ones but she was old and was near her last breath. She demanded her family as in our tradition to take material goods for after life, and the price was really heavy. She ordered tiger skin and local jewelry and etc. As the family couldn't afford the tiger skin ( illegal poaching) the grandma had to go without it but before leaving she cursed saying she won't leave until she gets what she wants. Here we bury our loved ones near our homes so they did that. A year or so passed the third eldest died of some unknown reasons. This upset the whole family and then the eldest( doctor) saw a dream of his kids dying and to his astonishment his both children died. The whole family cried saying it's the curse. Then again the father saw a dream where his kids where playing on top of his mother's tomb and out of nowhere came the old lady and snatched them saying u didn't give me what I asked u mock me again. I'll eat them up in return.the man was horrified and next day with all the villagers dug up the tomb and saw that the old lady was looking fresh with blood running her flesh and all over her body. They knew the reason of death now and so they chopped her and hanged it over the entrance of the town gate so that her spirit gets ashamed of her state and leaves the place. It is believed that she drunk her own family's blood to keep her mortal shell alive.

To my understanding, Elizabeth Bathory had suffered from epilepsy from an early age and the doctors gave her the blood of people with "healthy" brains in an attempt to quell the seizures. She was always horrible to her servants and would bleed them for her "medicine" in doing so she learned that she liked torture . The blood on her face sorry seems to be across all tellings and that is why she would kill peasant and servant (young) women. Virgins made for better treatments after all. The point that she also bathed in their blood is also across all tellings. Because she was upper crust the family more or less ignored her "quirk" until there were so few peasants left to do the work. And the families were upset of course but that hardly mattered. Interesting story, dark and gruesome that it is.
