I have had my Vamoose pop top now for 15 months and couldn't be happier. It is not the flashiest with no panoramic zips or multi windows and one colour fabric choice. What it is though is belts 'n' braces and bombproof ! They have been making them for years, it is tried and trusted. It laughs at bad weather and rain! I love the neatness of the internal gas struts and the simple st-steel hinges to the rear ( no stupid bungee needed here to stop catching in the scissor hinges ). I have extended the bed board and now have 2.1 metres bed length in a swb T5.1. They had my van for 2 days and fitted the colour matched pop top, deluxe bed board, diesel heater, Vamoose awning rail and new rear window. I also bought their bespoke internal thermal liner for winter use. And my van had furniture and a RIB bed already installed. Others didn't want to know. Vamoose just got on with it. Decent price too. Highly recommended!

I am seriously impressed with this pop top and the obvious expertise the fitters have. What a product!

Had this exact same idea for my VW Vanagon. Hope my DIY fits like a glove like yours.

Absolutely perfect. I can now make one myself and fit it to my van. Just have to make an aluminium frame with corner reinforcements and strengenthing bars at front and rear for it. Thats just saved me a pretty penny.

Do you guys not protect the bare metal edges, and holes that were drilled?

These guys are so efficient and experienced; making it seem so simple. Would definitely consider them for any project relating to van space utilisation and customisations. I am very curious about a rough estimate on how much does this process cost ?

What prices do you charge for the install? We have a solid T4 which could benefit from more height.

Hi, if van was originally lwb panel van, is it legal to cut the roof and install a pop top? Does it have to be checked by an engineer and inform dvla ? I’d love to do this but really don’t want to cut the roof just to have issues with police etc since all these stupid regulations have come in

Hi Lucas Just like to clarify something with you , this video was taken by one of our customers around 7 years ago , it has obviously been edited as the part where we TRIPLE seal all the frames and paintwork is not shown , I have been building camper vans for almost 30 years and fitting our Vamoose roofs for nearly 12 years , we have installed 1000’s of these and guess what , no rust ! I’d suggest you get your facts in order before you comment on things you have never seen and no nothing about .

I noticed it's a ridged roof. How do you fill in the valleys to prevent water leakage? I saw you squeeze some kind of material in there, what was that? And was any other step to the process of making the valley's water tight?

No the van is as strong with our frame in as it was with the original roof , it has been structurally tested by the RDW in the Netherlands and fully certified for type approval. ( no such test is available in the U.K. hence it was tested in Europe )

Dan Staszko 💪💪 If a high strength LEXAN, Kevlar, & Carbon Fibers were properly constructed, that portion of the vehicle should be much Much lighter weight & stronger then the original sheet metal. Similar to an air craft canopy. Strong & visible

looks great, but IMO, y'all should still use the section of the roof you cut off to convert into a removable roof bed.

Thats the way it should be a reinforcement frame when the roof braces are cut

Roof and body supports removed. Paint work not masked off. Metal not treated. Looks like it's done at my place with splash and dash fast fitter boys.

There is a purpose made channel in the strengthening frame which is filled with bonding sealant. When the frame is fitted it seals the bare metal edges. After this the frame is sealed from the inside and then again from the outside. No chance whatsoever of any rust anywhere.

Aluminium frame in replace of steel cross members . I would not trust it in aside crash.. crash tested?? I think it's reimo that put in a STEEL sub frame when the original tin roof and cross members are removed.

Vans are not safe or built with any strength to begin with.

Did not show in detail the most important: sealing between roof and frame ! The roof is not flat, the frame seems flat. Looked like they put silicone in the gaps, but just in there. Seeing only this, I bet it will leak :-(

I'd use Windshield adhesive or possibly a form fitting silicone seal w double sided 3m tape

That's the first thing I noticed, if they are not bothered about protecting the outer & internals of the van before cutting , makes you wonder if other corners are being cut when fitting. It doesn't take long to sheet up the outer bodywork and inners of the van to protect it from metal swarf\filings, a little extra care speaks volumes when a customer is looking for a converter to cut a big hole in their pride and joy. Come on Vamoose surely you are better than this?

The trim ring covers any imperfections, and they did cover the seats ,so they are mindful of what they are doing , professionals, all the way ..

+andrew moon The profiled frame has a groove in the underside which is filled with sealant before it is dropped in. This coats any bare metal. The frame is then double sealed from the inside. Then triple sealed from the outside. Absolutely no way any metal will ever rust. Sometimes best not to talk about things you know nothing about.
