Valter Longo: Fasting for long term health benefits

Valter Longo is Director of the University of Southern California (USC) Longevity Institute and a professor in biological science. Originally from Italy, he is a cell biologist who specializes in the mechanisms of aging in yeast, mice, and humans. His laboratory has identified genetic pathways that regulate aging in simple organisms and reduce the incidence of certain diseases in mice and humans. Valter has also developed a dietary regime - known as a fasting mimicking diet - that may reduce risk factors for aging in people.

I am a big fan of Valter Longo and in fact on day 5 of his FMD fast by ProLon. Do it twice a year along with friends and family, in order to flush out (or repair) damaged and precancerous cells, and then have the organs replace these cells post fast with new cells via a flood of awaiting stem cells. Preventative medicine. And we are also on a WFPB too by following Dr Greger's daily dozen (mostly aligned with Dr Longo's diet).

I've done Prolon twice. Massive headaches. Don't like the rice flour in the soups, and sugars. Began using apple cider vinegar in the soups and headaches disappeared. Their people tell me "that's not allowed." Well, if you can't see the health benefits of the ACV with your product, we're done. Never went back. Now I do my own vegan keto diet once in a while. No more glucose surge.

I wish the Dr. would look into the keto and carnivore diet in relation to longevity.

I have a friend who had his first child at 63. He married a younger woman and now they are thinking about a second child. I had one child who is forty now and that was all I could handle. I hope Valter has good luck having three or four kids in his fifties but in a way I'm kind of relieved to be out of the running. As a lot of us women have learned, you can't always have it all.

@@rccantrell4436 Good you started young. It is not easy to meet someone. At my age sort of depressing I have wasted my life single.

@@mnkwazi Funny you should say that. I really like being single now. As a woman of my generation, I was under a lot of pressure to have at least one child. Once I did so. The pressure was gone though and my ex and I believed strongly in joint custody and trying to be friends. I have a long term crush on someone who is pretty much a "confirmed bachelor" now. It's ok with me. It leaves me free to write and paint and focus on other things. I would suggest that you follow your own interests and see if you can find someone who feels the same way. I met both my exs in politics, which I was very passionate about at one time. If that doesn't work, get some therapy and try to figure out if you are inadvertently discouraging a relationship. Life is wonderful, single or in a couple. I hope it works out for you.
