Valley Plateau - VCV Rack Tutorial
Want to learn Modular Synthesis? have a look here - bit.ly/learnmodular
I don't like to look at effects as "only" effects, but rather as instruments, an integral part of a composition, but sometimes I encounter effects like Plateau from Valley, that also the word Instrument is not enough to describe them... In its core, it's a plate reverb, but it's so much more than that. And anyway, also as "just" a reverb, it's one of the best sounding reverbs I ever encountered, not only in VCV Rack. So in this video, I go through all of its features, and I build a patch, from scratch, and having fun :)

Thought I'd have a go at this before going to bed last night, big mistake! I got to the transpose part and it just sounded all wrong. It was only this morning I realised I had the clock set to x16 instead of /16! Great tutorial Omri. Thank you.

This is how the legend was born.
That change at 13:29 makes me feel the sane as the beat change in Frank Ocean's Nights

@@OmriCohen-Music Glad I found your vid. As I am coming from the DAW and making more melodic and rythmic (structured?) peaces than the "pure" modular people, I am always happy when I find some inspirations like this vid. I played a lot with the transpose function of quantum and tried to figure out to automaticly recognice when to switch between major and minor for a given key. But this always ended in a big collection of const and comparators modules and i believe that this is not the intention of vcv rack. Anyhow, you are an inspiration for many people and your vids helped me a lot to come into the modular world. Thanks a lot for your effort.
You had a massive fireworks type of sound going there without diffusion. Very nice tut.

This is a really lovely module. I seem to remember that it needs a fair amount of CPU, unfortunately, and I think my system would struggle with your final patch. It sounded excellent though! I hadn't realised Plateau could do those wonderful metallic sounds - they remind me of hitting saucepans when filling them with water :)
@OmriCohen-Music

Yeah, it can get quite CPU hungry but it's worth every bit...

Hey Omri, Your videos on VCV are great and always a joy to watch. I learned a lot, thanks! Maybe you can help me out: I am looking for a VCV equivalent of Malekko's Gate Delay. Do you know a module which can do that? DGate by Bogaudio is a Gate Delay, but not as funky as Malekko's take =) Thanks, cheers, T.
@OmriCohen-Music
5 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! Yeah, the Malekko's one look pretty awesome, but I'm afraid that I still didn't encounter something like this in rack...

Yeah, Plateau is full of features, true... Maybe I will revisit it in the future.
now I understand why everyone use plateau :)
What is the revervation module in Eurorack that comes closest to Plateau please?
@OmriCohen-Music
2 жыл бұрын
I'm not so sure there is one but the new Strymon looks promising.
Is there a limit to the number of modules you can download in VCV rack? I can see this reverb in my plugin folder but I can't see it in Rack itself.
@OmriCohen-Music
4 жыл бұрын
No, there's no limit... Do you have the latest version of VCV? How did you install the plugin?
Thank you for this. But with higher reverb I am getting a kind of dirty distortion in my headphones. What could be the problem?
@OmriCohen-Music
3 жыл бұрын
Well, this reverb is quite hot so you have to watch your levels. Where are you sending it to? Can you lower the level?
@olimurugavel
3 жыл бұрын
@@OmriCohen-Music I am sending it directly to the mixer. My level is about 60%. With a Sine wave and specifically Saw wave the distortion is super heavy even at low volumes
So is Valley Plateau a virtual plugin only, or is there an actual hardware Eurorack module available and if so where can one purchase it? I've looked and I can't find one anywhere.
@OmriCohen-Music
3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Plateau is only virtual...
There is in a physical modular world?
Is there any hardware module as good as plateau?
@OmriCohen-Music
3 жыл бұрын
Well, I hear only good things about the Erbe Verb, and I have the Desomodus Versio for a few weeks now, and it's a super nice reverb.
Does Quantum have some equivalent in the real world (a real Eurorack module)?
