Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada

Valley of Fire State Park is located about an hour northeast of Las Vegas, NV. It features dramatic red and multi-colored sandstone formations. There are a variety of trails and viewpoints located throughout the park.
In this video, we drive into the park from the west. We make a stop at a group of formations called "Beehives" before driving further into the park. We take a hike on the Petroglyph Canyon Trail to Mouse's Tank, which is a natural formation that collects water. We then continue driving through the rest of the park before exiting the park to the east.

Wow, the opening shot and the end shot were both incredible. Such a well done video. Like your videos from Arches N.P. and Moab last year, the overcast skies really worked well because the details of the rocks really stand out in that kind of conditions. I watched another video of this drive last year and while I enjoyed that, your video was way better. The trail walk was something you usually don't do in your videos so that was a neat feature. This park is aptly named, because it looks like everything got melted.

I remember coming here as a kid when it used to be a quiet little park. I remember when the road turned to dirt about a half mile past the place where I took the trail walk. Times have changed, and this park has become extremely popular. It's easy to understand why it's so popular. It sometimes feels like you're on another planet. Anyhow, that's a good observation about the overcast skies. Anymore, I almost wish for overcast skies, or at least a few clouds, when I go somewhere to shoot a video. It can tend to make things more interesting. Anyhow, thanks for watching and commenting. Take care.

Why is it not a National Park?

That's a good question. It's certainly as nice or nicer than some national parks. However, it doesn't cover a very large area. It's gotten a lot busier in the past few years. I imagine if it was a national park, it would become very overcrowded.
