Route 66 - A Drive Over Sitgreaves Pass to Oatman, AZ

We take Exit 44 on I-40 West in Arizona to get on historic Route 66. We head west on Route 66 to Sitgreaves Pass, which sits at an elevation of 3550 feet. We then continue west to the town of Oatman, AZ. Oatman is famous for being a historic wild west town where wild burrows roam the streets. We have a little fun in Oatman before continuing west.

This is a part of Arizona I hadn't yet seen. Thanks for the video.

You're welcome. This was my first time driving over this pass as well.

Oatman is one of my favorite places to visit, love the wild burros! I have never come in the back way, yikes that is quite a drive. I have heard horror stories about large motorhomes and trailers coming up that hill. Great video, thanks.

This was the first time I've come in from the east. It's definitely a more exciting and scenic way to get to Oatman.

Wow. What. A. Drive. I've read about this stretch and stories about how it was so treacherous to drive that there were professional drivers who would drive it for you. Now I see why. You really have to be paying attention on this stretch, but it is really something. At the end, I wondered about that peak that looks like an American version of the Matterhorn. That's why I like to watch your videos: because you provide a great way to discover so many fascinating places on the back roads that you don't get by going solely on the Interstates.

Yes. This was a neat drive. I had been to Oatman before, but I had never come over the pass from the east. It's hard to believe this used to be the main route across the country. I have to ask myself why they chose to go over this pass rather than take a route closer to the present-day alignment of I-40, which is mostly flat. I guess they must have felt the road just had to go through Oatman.

@@ASunnyAdventure I know. As I watched this video I thought, "that was quite an ordeal to get this highway created in the first place", and this was a major US Highway for a long time. To think of the thousands upon thousands who would have travelled on this road.... with white knuckles, no less.
