Valkyrie Silenced DeLisle Carbine at the Range

Cool Forgotten Weapons merch! shop.bbtv.com/collections/forg...
The DeLisle carbine was a conversion of the Lee Enfield to .45 ACP made by the British during World War Two for SOE use. They used modified 1911 magazines to feed, and included a very large suppressor to make the carbine as close to actually silent as a firearm can be. Original DeLisles are very rare and basically all in museums, but Valkyrie Arms made a number of reproductions, and today I have one of those at the range to do some shooting. Let's see how it handles!

@Viking355th
3 жыл бұрын
@@flavioflubber183 Thanks man, and rad he was. He was a rare breed, an outdoorsman scientist. He studied polar bears for a living. He went on crazy adventures. One time, he was in an isolated arctic environment. When you do that, you have two sheds: one for sleeping, one for cooking. The logic being that if the cooking shed burns down, you'll have shelter for the three months until the next supply plane, which would evac you if it came to that. It was him and his research assistant, Tim. Now, when you're up north like that, you've got a lot of spare time. Dad was a little worried about starving polar bears, so he carried a .41 mag revolver on his hip, just in case. You need some stopping power for an animal that size. He practiced his quick-draw on tin cans. Tim saw him practicing. Also worth mentioning: polar bears make a snorting sound when they've decided to kill you. This will become relevant shortly. One day, they needed to grab a gull sample. Tim spotted a gull, and raised his shotgun. Just birdshot mind you (don't want to ruin the specimen, so smaller balls are better.) He lead the gull, as one does, but didn't check his background. He accidentally pulled the trigger just as the sight passed over my Dad, who was further down the beach. Dad's the only person I know who ever saw a shotgun blast coming at him and lived to tell of it. He says it's a tiny little ball of fire that gets really big, then really small, really quick. He said it sounded like a swarm of bees as the pellets zipped by him and whipped into the sand. Tim felt really bad about that. The next day, it was Dad's turn to cook, so he got up and went to the cooking shed. Tim, still feeling bad, figured he'd try to made amends by taking over the cooking duties. So, he put on his plaid parka, and went to the cooking shed. It was cold (it's the Arctic) so as he entered the cooking shed, he did that "brrrr!" sound that people make when they're cold. It sounded like that polar bear "I'm gonna kill you now" snort. Tim saw my Dad's hand drop to his .41. He'd seen my Dad practice, and he figured he was experiencing the last few milliseconds of his life. If Tim had been wearing white, this would be a story about my Dad's time in prison, but it was plaid, so Dad held fire. I have a few stories like that to remember him by, and his grandchildren think they're cool. Rest in peace, Dad. You were fucking epic.

The De Lisle has been in games before FNV, like Medal of Honor Allied Assault, and Josh Sawyer, the lead developer on FNV, is a gun enthusiast. They probably knew about this gun and didn't include it because it's a rare British gun and it wouldn't make much sense for it to be in Utah. Also, it's a bolt-action firing pistol bullets; it's not very strong if it is portrayed realistically. The M1911 (and therefore .45 ACP) was included in Honest Hearts because it was John Moses Browning's most famous design, and as a Mormon, Browning was idolized by Joshua Graham.

Instead we got all stupid looking guns, that look unpleasant to shoot, or like the assault rifle which looks more like a light machine gun than a assault rifle. I prefer fallout nv's guns, and the survivalist rifle is probably my favorite in the entire game, since it tells a story on its own. The lower ammo capacity is probably because the gun is converted from military to civilian. Its badly damaged with makeshift repairs, and has the word stop in french and english on the stock (probably because he was a soldier and since Canadians have French and English speakers it makes sense to have his gun also act as a makeshift sign) This isn't the only weapon to do this in fallout nv, but I really loved the detail they put into it.

I don't need my ears, and someone blows his ears out shooting in the background 😱
If you miss, this gun might actually be quiet enough that the enemy soldier who hears the "thump" of the round hitting the dirt beside them might think he dropped something out of one of his pockets, or something fell out of his backpack. He might even check his gun to make sure he didn't just drop his magazine. I think it would be amusing to shoot near a very unalert/inattentive enemy and watch their confusion from a bush. Which, actually, considering this design's purpose, I wonder if there were ever situations of indirect fire to make some noise or disable something to draw the enemy away, and then sneak by them rather than shooting them.
My son had one made by one of the top guys back in the day (8-10 years ago). We sent him a Mk4 mod 1 (Aussie) and a year later we got it back. It is beautiful and shoots just like that one.....Don't eject or feed slow. Ram and Jam and it works beautifully.

On the contrary, it's a good thing. Cameras compress sound (bring loud and quiet sounds closer together). When people shoot guns at steel on camera normally, the gun report forces the camera to "duck" the level a lot, and it doesn't have time to rebound to normal sensitivity at the moment of steel "ping". The ping, then, is quiet. As well as the shot, which should have been completely clipping. You can only hear the echo of the gunshot at normal loudness. With well-suppressed firearms, the difference in loudness of the "ping" is substantial. Since the best suppressed guns trigger the compressor much less, the ping is almost full-volume. Other sounds that accompany a shot also become audible, such as ricochets whizzing, the early reflections (echo), and cycling/ejection sounds on autos. But otherwise, if there wasn't a "ping" to compare, a shot itself would just sound different, and not quieter, on camera.

If the only thing you're hearing is the bullet hitting the plate, it's clearly a sign that the suppressor is doing its job well. Not that hard to figure that out.

@@neopup1776 One can dream. SEVERELY doubt it would ever happen. Stranger things... honestly that would be the strangest thing to ever happen. It was absolutely shocking when the Assault Weapons Ban wasn't extended. This would be one of the first times in history the United States government returned rights one once had instead of taking more away.
One of the few guns I'd actually consider purchasing for myself. Very nice, short video!
When I was shooting regular over here in the UK I got chatting with a local gunsmith about building one as it's a cool looking gun
Great video, a very impressive baffled range.
Love it! Looks super cool!
Arsenal: Shoots explosions that deal 50 damage and a fling IRL: Silenced Bolt-action sniper rifle in WWII
It is so cool when he shoots at the range you go to but twice im loving it!
That gunshot from behind with the plate ring is an incredibly satisfying sound.
I'll never get tired of Ian's left handed bolt work. I've always wondered if he would be just as proficient with a pistol grip bolt action.
Ian ran that bolt pretty well....and wasn't competing in the 'how fast can we run a bolt gun' competition like some others (ahem...TFL) do. The mark of a competent bolt gun operator is clean and fast operation without hickups. That DeLisle is obviously a finicky thing to run so timing is critical to clean operation. I only go fast enough to be sure that it works cleanly every time....and try to avoid looking spasmodic unlike some we see on KZread trying to go as fast as possible. Proper operation always looks effortless and smooth....and for a Lefty...Ian does pretty darn good with every gun he displays. Well done Sir.
This range looks super cool and friendly and in the middle of nature. Makes me want to go there for some casual target practice...
Dude, you are a gosh darn beast with that gun!
Nice video and a nice looking range.
the Delisle carbine is my favorite rifle in Sniper Elite 4.it shortens the campaign missions as they can't hear you
Love the bullet holes in the ceiling beams
