    Hi all, this is a bit of an oddball video - I didn't plan to make it, it just .. happened! 😁 I guess I got valkyried by this extraordinary game. I hope you enjoy this look back at what classic games got so right. Just a note about the difficulty setting: yes, I know about the differences between Normal and Hard; for this playthrough, normal was my choice. I doubt it will remain the only time I play it! I look forward to hearing your experiences with VP. Please remember if you wish to comment, it does help if you watch (at least some of) the video first. 😀

    Loved this game on PSP, even if I was absolutely awful at it 😅. The 3D parts were added for the PSP version, it had a different opening from the PS one too (I remember trying to look it up and finding the original anime one). Nice to know it's on PS4 now!

    I'm disappointed that Square-Enix has not released an HD remaster of Valkyrie Profile Lenneth on Nintendo Switch and PS5, I'd even love a HD 2D remake of the game, if only SquareEnix would make it

    Thanks for taking me back in time as I beat this game two decades ago. I also was fascinated by norse mythology as I rarely read books but these games exposed me to new worlds. Combat in this game kept me engaged and the stories were a nice touch.

    Looks excellent! I recently replayed Valkyrie Profile 2 on PS2 (I had the game as a kid, but I recall getting stuck on a lever puzzle in an early dungeon and never finishing it) - Truly an under-discussed classic on that console! I never played any of the other games in this series, so this video is largely my introduction to Lenneth (She appears in VP2, but I mean the actual game)

    I love Valkyrie Profile series so much! The first time i played it and finished it 4 yeard ago, i couldn't help but play it again for like 5 times lol. I was so engrossed with the unique battle system and the music. Also the story is really great, it's just that the need for guide to get the true ending was a little excessive. One event missed and the true ending won't be available anymore. But all in all it's a really great game

    A few years back I bought Valkyre Profile Covdnant of the Plume. It was the hardest game I ever played. Maybe because I was too young to understand the mechanics of battle and english isn't my first language, but I barely finished the first fight. I stopped playing because everyone died and I couldn't do anything in the Prologue. Your review makes me want to play it again and see if I can do it this time. I love the Pixelart! And your voice is very soothing, I enjoy all your videos!

    I really like this game both in gameplay and story. Teen me, who has no background on Norse Mythology made me obsessed with the concept of an angel inviting a fallen warrior to join the war of the gods. The only thing I didn't like was that there was no way to naturally get ending A without a guide.

    Hello Britta! I jumped here to hear your thoughts because I recently started a new playthrough of this game after more than 10 years, luckily I bought the new port on PSN. This time I’m doing my best to get the “A” ending, apparently the true ending. This game has always stayed in my mind, last year I beat VP Silmeria on ps2 which is greeeeat, this series is gameplay challenging and from the narrative viewpoint it has very VERY interesting proposals.

    I miss old Tri-Ace games like this. Valkyrie Profile 1 and 2 really stand out as some of the darker and stranger JRPGs to come out in the west. I never master the battle system so I've only gotten the normal endings in this game.

  • @Food4Dogs

    @Food4Dogs

    The battle system does look a bit convoluted. I'll probably cheese my way through .. 😄 Yes, there is something about these older games, they're just unique. Tri-ace did such interesting, creative stories. Nowadays, companies are wary to allow anything that isn't pre-market-assessed and fits into "what's successful right now".

    I loved this game when it first came out on PSOne. I remember beating it on Hard for the best ratings and unlocking all the characters… was SO FUN! They really don’t make them like this anymore. I still love the battle system!! The 2D sprites are astounding and it also has some of the most beautiful music in a game. Star Ocean 2 comes close too. Speaking of the Star ocean games there were a bunch of hidden bosses in those that were from Valkyrie profile. I always liked those cameos. One more thing is that I also really prefer the anime opening of the original PS1 game rather than the CG opening of Lenneth.

    The different voices were quite fun to listen to. Hearing the stories spoken out loud kind of makes them hit differently. I guess it made me feel for a bit why stories were mostly preserved orally in history. The personal tragedies of the human characters feel even more human because they're being told to you, instead of read about? That makes me think VP is a great choice for this type of video.

    I played the original PS1 version of the game. It's beautiful, fun, memorable, and expensive =_= While I did enjoy it, it's one of those games you need a walkthrough guide for. I unfortunately never finished it due to being annoyed I needed to continuously look up how to advance the story proper. I sold it just before COVID, which I started kicking myself over because the price skyrocketed to nearly 500$ during the pandemic =_=

  • @Food4Dogs

    @Food4Dogs

    5 ай бұрын

    Ah yea ... those prices. Things went crazy there. You're right about this type of game being tricky. I often need the help of a guide with older games bc they relied on deliberate obfuscation so you would spend maximum amount of time figuring it out! Back then, from what I hear, young people often only had maybe 2-3 games per year, and those games had to last them months. I very much believe they were constructed "to last the distance"! 😁

  • @neonnwave1

    @neonnwave1

    5 ай бұрын

    @@Food4Dogs Well the reason for that is because the home console games of that era - pre-PS1 - operated like arcades (some where just straight up ports). Arcade games were made very difficult on purpose in order to get people's money, so naturally the home console games would be just as difficult. Most of those games had an average length of 45 minutes if you were good and never died once, but the difficulty is what made them last so long. Due to their difficulty, it would take children months on average to get good enough to beat them. There's also the fact games back then were $60, which was considered expensive at the time. Not every family could afford to buy a new one every month like today.
