Valeton GP200 - I Like It But, I Don't Love It

Музыка

What do you think POTT?
To me its just a little too thin and brittle sounding.
Considering all the high end in the pedal is rolled off as well. Thats not great. Plus the patch change thing is stupid.
Let me know below hat you think. : )

I think where you get really the most of out of this is actually when you can hook it up to your computer you have software that it comes with and that allows you to really dial in the unit for what you want and how expandable it actually can be

AMAZING DAVE!!! I love your work so much I have learned so much from you over the past few years I've been playing guitar. I have the whole Californication pedalboard complete like you had recreated. I am after the By The Way tone now. What tone advice do you recommend and could there be a possible video in the near future?

PARAMETRIC EQ. Im sure the gp 200 has it. It brings amp models to life. Makes the sound rounder If you use it on anything, its great. The digital world has to have one in my experience. The katana sounds way better with one. I use helix which made me sell my katana. Im excited about your helix video!! Hope you love it as much as i do

I got one to use with headphones or studio speakers if I want to jam and not use my amp or laptop. I love the GUI, very easy, great looper, "ok" drums, amps sound great and most fxs sound great too. So for an all on one box I give it a 8/10. Oh and you can customize the pedals plus it has great midi as well!

Good evening Dave, I have several multi effects at home. Purely subjectively, I believe that this is not a blind development path in the search for and acquaintance with the sounds of guitar effects. Again, according to my subjective opinion, they are basically pedalboards in a compact package, which probably entails certain compromise solutions and results. Still, I'm glad they exist and provide plenty of learning opportunities not just for beginner guitarists. I have several effects from Valetone. amplifier, connecting cables, etc. It seems to me that the brand is quite responsive to the development and demands of musicians. OK for home play, I can't judge for live play. In my home mini studio I have many PBs as well as Zoom, Hotone, NUX, HB multi-effects. Coexistence works here somehow. I like the particular Valetone model, it basically has 2-3 better effects for the price. Thank you very much for the quality and objective review, including the musical performance. Greetings and I wish you a nice weekend. Pavel CZ.👍👍👍

With your main point being the switching delay it was interesting to see towards the end of your review, when you were switching between presets there was almost no delay… I think there may be something wrong with the setup you’ve configured in stomp box mode. I think there is a mechanism to set the switch to operate on the down rather than on the release, the presets probably do that.

I have the Valeton GP100 I got mine a little over a year ago. I used it maybe 4 times and then had an issue with mine the little screen went completely blank and then I just had a white screen with no display. But the pedal still works but now I have to use the software on my computer in order to use the pedals and different effects. I contacted Valeton but they were not much help and I even sent them an email asking if I could send it to them and have it fixed but never answered me back! But it sounds okay but I don’t really care for it that much anymore and I don’t use anymore! 🤔 Great video Dave Thank you 😊🙏

I have the JR version of this (it has fewer switches but still has the expression pedal) and I got it as an inexpensive way into amp modelling (and effects). I use it with the HarleyB FRFR speaker for use at home and overall I like it. I hear what you are saying about its drawbacks if you are gigging with it though.

Hey Dave, I bought this unit last month, to replace my older backup/home digital multifx (a Digitech Element, I didn't mind about how some its distortions/amps sounded, but I hated the half second of gap that occurred switching the patches). I've noticed here that all the pedal switches work only releasing the foot from them, also the CTRL one and the others A/B/C/D (when they're set on stomp box mode) don't have a noticeable gap. Somebody says using a midi controller there aren't these issues at all as well as it seems the latest firmware improves partially the gaps you found in patch mode. By the way years ago, before the Element, I owned that Zoom g2.1u (like yours) and the infamous g9.2tt (the one with the "fake" valve), although I enjoyed the modulations and their configurability (at that time I was playing new-wave/post-punk stuff and all was fine), I really disliked the distiortions, so for me this Valeton sounds much better. ;)

Great video, Dave. I'm wavering on a new multiFX unit for a new project im involved with, and the GP200 was in the mix. I'm a pedals and valve amp guy, but I am looking for an ampless unit that I can take to open mics, showcases etc. and have patches for songs as well as having it set up like you had in the video. This unit seems to do this? @everyone, suggestions/alternatives to the GP200 in a similar price bracket welcome 🙏

Kick on the chorus , reverb, and a slight bit of echo. Some of these multi effects are leaving out echo to use on a slow intro to get that live stage big thick sound booming through the air at night sound. On the right songs. When you hear that you dont forget it, its hard to capture and replicate. I still work at it. They need to make a pedal for that named "The big sound". You got some good sounds out of the Valeton. Thanks Dave for the review. Oh just saw the Boss Terra echo pedal. With some other effects like Valetons, thats getting close. Thanks again Dave, you sounded close with the Valeton at certain points.

You can customize the foot switches on patch mode or stomp mode (as well as user mode) and you can change what buttons control banking, changing through patches, or simply turning on and off effects. I currently have mine set up so that tap on all eight of the buttons turns on and off all the effect pedals. Holding down the buttons or combining one and five five and six, six and seven or seven and eight together will give me banking, changing patches, tuner, Looper, drums, etc. I also have one of the buttons that changes the expression pedal mode from a to b so I can control both Wah and volume

This is important information. Exactly what I want to know. How does it work live gigging. Thanks for saying what most others won't say. Switching between effects patches needs to be instant like a regular pedalboard. It seems the engineers just make it work on the bench but don't design it for gigging. My Zoom 505 original, late 90s doesn't do that.

Hi Dave. I have the headrush pedal board. Not the new prime but the model before..it has a feature called tails which I think it's stops and lag in-between pressing the switches. It's also very easy to switch off the tail mode .I bought the headrush because of the simplicity of the unit. It has a 7 inch touch screen and very easy to navigate. I didn't go for the helix or the boss 1000 because of the simplicity of the headrush. I enjoy the headrush for that reason. I hope one day you get the chance to review one I would love to here your thoughts thanks again Dave. Ps I watch your gig that you put up on utube phenomenal absolutely brilliant .what a truly incredible band

I tried the smaller version of this - similiar to you through a guitar amp (think my Katana, my idea was to basically have 1 amp & 1 unit cover everything). Much the same as you I found the drives/distortions a bit "thin" to my ears. Very good unit, that I think serves a great purpose, which is a way to have a 1 stop shop MFX on a signifcant budget reduction - that does everything - from being a stand alone giggable or studio rig, to something you can implement in to a board to cover effects you may want, but dont want to fork out on etc. I had thought about getting somethig like this to have a small "headphone rig" - but opted myself to just get one of those little nux mighty lites - which are shockingly good (especially if you get one for £20 like I did, what a deal that was).

It's pretty normal for patch changes to take time, but the root of your complaint is really you can't make a pedalboard you actually like with it. Normal use for any PB (even hard wired ones) are you build one pedalboard and footswitch toggle the thing you want to change.

People should know, there is NO warranty on these. Mine broke (no sound one day) after a few weeks and Valeton said, sorry. That's it?! So I ordered a new one and returned the dead one. Then sold the new one on Reverb to get my money mostly back. It's hot garbage.

Might be worth watching this too. This pedal seems to have used similar switching to the Valeton, but that was changed in the firmware update....kzread.info/dash/bejne/pHV91saic8ytnrg.htmlsi=v__TmSeLB9-gtfpP

I’ve had 2 x GP100s and 1 x GP200. All crap. Sounded really synthetic and didn’t even work as an audio interface as there was lots of crackle. Weird as I have a Hotone Ampero One which I think is from the parent company and that’s pretty good.

Dave stole my bike, I really need it back, Any chance you could send me a multi fx for my gigs. I'll have it to make up for my stolen bike
