What a run from Bekele, he played it super smart, unfortunately he was barely on screen.

Bekele didn't even look tired at the end of the race lol. Could probably still run a sub-60 final 400 at the end of a marathon at the age of 41. Greatest distance runner of all-time.

Cheptegei was there for real. He didn't participate only to extend his fame of 5K and 10K. He was there for real full course marathon no matter what(might've been more likely the case where if he wasn't to fulfill or get close to what the public anticipated, he could've chosen the face-saving option of dropping out instead of completing the quest in that agonizing form and let it be seen by everyone). Not many professionals do that. I think it shows his true character and his genuiness for the sport. Absolute respect, Joshua!

Good catch! It's actually Bernard Ngeno, the pacemaker who dropped out way earlier than expected. You can see at 19:58 (left picture, runner on the right) that he already dropped out after just 6 km. I would really like to know if the collision is the reason for that. Since his half marathon personal best is faster than those of the other two pacemakers, he would be expected to stay the longest, until about 30 km.

Crazy to me that age 40+ is considered ‘Masters’ given that this is prime time for many athletes particularly endurance athletes and even more so if they were elite prior to the age of 40; most are still elite/world class well into the 40s. Masters should be reserved for 50+ imo.

@@frodo5882 Triathlon, running, cycling, swimming to name a few. Look up some of the athletes who are in their 40s who’ve been and who are world class amongst all age groups. Some have one grueling stage races in cycling, others gold medals, etc. My point is there are many athletes in their 40s who are competing at overall top levels. Performance really starts to drop off at 50+, not in your 40s. Bekele just ran a 2:04 n some change at age 41, his fastest marathon in 4 years; I’d call that prime time.😄.

The fact that athletes are able to be competitive into their 40s does not mean it's their 'prime time'. Do you think Kenenisa at 41 is a better runner than he was in his 20s setting WRs and doubling at championships? Maybe we should ask Bernard Lagat if he felt like he was better in the early 2000s compared to the 2010s.. Let alone discussing the well documented studies showing decline in VO2max by age past the 30s.
