Vaive held the Leaf's Record for most goals in a season for 40 years until Auston Matthews broke it!

Спорт

Rick Vaive, a 13 year NHL Veteran who was a first round pick, 5th overall, by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft is in the house! Vaive played half a season for the Canucks before being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs where he is best remembered as their Captain and as the very first player in team history to score 50 goals in a season wearing the blue and white. He also held the Leaf’s Franchise record for most goals in a season for over 40 years until Auston Matthews passed him in 2022.

Great work as always Gino! Rick played before I began watching hockey, but from everything I can gather, he was a heck of a player.

his book was a good read. Got a real bad rap (undeserved) with his legal tangle post career. Why he hasn't gotten LEAF recognition with a ceremony is nutty. 50's are still 50 no matter the era. Woulda Coulda Shouda......in VAN? Another bad deal for the Canucks. Vid doc on Vaive kzread.info/dash/bejne/eaNrurhxoZPAXcY.html

This guy scored goals on terrible teams. In another horrible move by Leaf management, he was named captain at a very young age when they had Salming there for a decade. Wrong move in so many ways. He played hard and was one of the few bright spots of those awful Leaf teams. Good to hear from him. He gets lost in the discussion of great scores from his era.

Gino it seems like you're not really listening to the answers to your questions, by your response. It's just on to your next question.

I could be wrong but you never know if the guest is in a hurry and can only spare a limited amount of time or Gino has so many questions he just needs to move it along faster than he even wants to. Either way I enjoy these interviews very much. I was an NHL fan in the 70's 80's 90's and the guys I saw play have interesting stories. Today the game is dull in so many ways that it is unwatchable to me. The league over expanded 2 decades ago and the rosters are too full of European and Russian players that an American fan just cannot relate the same way to. I'm sure the players are good guys but the style of play is boring to me. There are no characters anymore like Dave Tiger Williams, Probert, Domi . Just a very different sport these days. They need to increase the size of the net because these goaltenders all seem to be 6'7 and above plus they are wearing 100 lbs. of padding. Just my opinion...
