I have really enjoyed watching your videos. I’ve been in the game 43 years but I’ve never had any formal training for breakdowns other than a couple of Vaillant courses. I have been concentrating on installs, bathrooms and general plumbing. Thanks for all the tips they have been very useful. I have seen a few on KZread and I think yours are the best. Some I’ve watched hardly know more than me lol. regards Clive.

Thanks for that. I think they must have been working on the main nearby as the properties are so close. I did try the old hit the gas valve on both but they wouldn't move. I wished I'd kept the gas valves to look inside. Anyway thanks a lot and enjoy your day.

Great video, love watching them all, some great tips, even the vailliant course don’t exsplain fault finding that well, good work 👍🏻, where do you get all your literature from if you don’t mind me asking? Do you have it for all/most boilers you work on? It’s a simple but very clever idea to always have something like that to hand,

Hi Mate, Great Video, I had the same fault today, I thought it was a pump fault and ordered one to go back to fit it tomorrow, ill try this option first to see if it works and to save them some money, I can hear a bit of air in the boiler but having a bit of trouble clearing it, the auto air vent is working though ?? Any ideas ?

I’ve had something similar to this in the past , as it wasn’t set up correctly from install. I found I had to adjust the bypass and increase pump speed in d.19. Most engineers would be thinking either pump issue or it’s blocked somewhere.

  • @HeatingGeek

Hi , I’m confused if there is power to the pump and it’s not spinning surely that’s a faulty pump ? What you did works but not as a permanent fix maybe just to see them with hw till the pump gets fitted ?

  • @HeatingGeek

    @HeatingGeek

    4 жыл бұрын

No, It will work constantly. The pump has 2 windings. One high power and one low power. I have just told the boiler not to use the low power winding (because its failed). The boiler will only use the high power one now. Obviously, the pump should be replaced but it will work fine until then. :-)

HeatingGeek I changed the rubber tube 4mth ago as the same fault was happening, checked new rubber tube and it’s clear.. (the Combi boiler is 10yrs old) at that time I changed the plate exchanger and both sensors, to the MHExchanger. The pump is set to Auto in settings, I tried high rate, but no change. 2yrs ago I fitted a magnflow in line filter on the return CH pipe. Do you think the small in line filter from the MHE could be the issue on this ecomax (Plumbase part No - VAI07-4517 -4517 FILTER, ) any other ideas? so annoying as I’ve just fitted a new MHExchanger (as it was perforated and losing pressure) now got this DHW going cold issue back. I don’t what to have to call out the local Vaillant expert after getting this far. Cheers D

Or is it because its not alternating to high speed and thats why you set it to lock speed Love your video for us beginner

  • @HeatingGeek

The PCB controls the pump speed. It used high or low when it thinks its appropriate. Low for Hw when burner is off high when burner is on. The cheaper (Pro) version only has a high speed pump so costs a VERY small amount more to run. All I did here was to Force the PCB to use the pump at full speed all the time. Because the low speed winding had failed and the pump would stall when it was meant to run at low speed. Im glad this helps people. :-)

If the high speed pump windings had failed would that then not allow the pump to be forced into high speed.. The fault was there was no power from the board to the high speed side of the pump until it was forced?

Omg olie. I went to a vaillant yesterday same eco tec with the knobs. Went there to do a gas cert but agent told me to check hot water for tenant as they can't seem to have hot water long enough. Anyway, when I got there heating was already on so away I went and opened up the hot water tap. Hot water came on, had my eye on the flame never went out but hot water went lukewarm and stayed lukewarm. I did notice the flame diddnt seem as strong but it diddnt go out!! I felt the plate heat exchanger and it was cold! I also assumed the diverter might be letting by so I isolated the flow and return thinking the hot water will suddenly get hot. No Luck! I'm due back there but I was going to flush the plate. I will now do this instead as I assumed the pump was fine as I felt it spinning.

I would like to ask you your opinion on these two jobs. I don’t do many breakdowns but one was my nephews and the other was a service that turned into a repair. These jobs basically ran consecutively because of times of visits getting access and parts. First one EcoTec 630 about 6 years old but not been registered for guarantee, second one EcoTec plus 831 not been registered same age. 635 has a F75 fault pretty easy to diagnose pump not running with power to pump. Change pump starts to go through ignition sequence only to not light despite sparking. Then goes to F54 and F29. I am like I can’t believe this. So check gas valve for resistance 150 ish. 22 volts dropping to 16 on the lead. On the Yellow lead holder did resistance and 116 ish if I remember correctly. I ring Vaillant they say all the readings are ok. So I do a strip down of main burner it’s really clean put it back together and still not working. Ring Vaillant they say you know it’s the gas valve stuck so change it. Apparently the gas valve has an internal filter but you can’t get at it?? I reluctantly change the gas valve and it works. The 831 was exactly the same except it started with an F22 which was the sensor. Changed the sensor that cleared the F22 only for the boiler to go to you, guessed it F54 and F29. Everything exactly the same with the readings of the Gas valve. I didn’t strip the burner out just changed the gas valve and it’s working lovely. These properties were within a 100 yards of each other. I wondered if something in the gas supply had caused the valves to jam up. I just wondered if you have experienced anything similar or had any ideas as to why that might happen? I understand if you haven’t got time to reply. Clive

The valves are susceptible to the black dust you get in the gas mains (Copper sulphate I think). It causes the rubber of the valve to become sticky and the valve wont open. Very common on these boilers. When the boiler is trying to light if you tap the gas valve you will get it working for a short time. I think the new Honeywell gas valves are changed internally to combat this. Different rubber or Grease i think

jaxmar88. I know what you mean. If it was MY private customer then I would bring it all to their attention and hopefully fix it all. (nice little earner). But engineers are worked hard these days and only do what the customer asked for. I do miss the old days of meeting in the cafe and talking about the jobs for the day!!!

Some people don't deserve help. Look at all that domestic paraphernalia cluttering up the boiler area. Got you clambering all over the vegetable racks and packets of light bulbs next to the boiler for you to tip toe around! They should be told at the outset to clear all that stuff away before you even touch anything, the lazy, inconsiderate feckers. I am not an engineer, but always think of how I can make their job as easy as possible whenever I send for one, including a cup of tea! Would love you to do a video on the state of people's homes when you visit and get the word out that you guys deserve some respect. ;-)

I have an 11 year old 837 with the Wilo pump. No issues yet and even if it failed now I would accept that it had done its design life. I don't know why the Wilos failed so much and mine has survived?? Weird.

@@HeatingGeek purely speculation - but maybe the bearings in the wilo pumps are less tolerant of dirty water (on systems where there has been a boiler change without a good flush) - and I'm guessing your system has nice clean well inhibited water ? Difficult to tell on a small sample !

I had been at this property for over 1.5 hours and the boiler had worked fine. Not even one minute of issues. Max rate Min rate etc etc. The pump had worked all the time so I had no reason to test it. Once the fault began I didn't want to turn off the boiler and risk it working again!!! The pump did get replaced (by the original engineer) however, Vaillant allow you to change the setting so it is fine to be left like that. This video is meant to show people how they can get a boiler working (For the old lady etc) until they can come back with the part.
