I have a speedy b 25 in Ebene. I like that I don't have to worry about watermarks. But definitely monogram with vachetta the combination of both it is just beautiful. I just own a monogram pochette accessories and I am enjoying it because everything has a cicle of ending. Just enjoy those beautiful items. Great tips for sure to handle vachetta. Thank you

Thank you for this. I actually did something stupid to my new Speedy 25 today lol I saw a line and like any dumb person I put my finger in my mouth and thought it was smart to rub my saliva on it thinking it was like any other regular item/ well it darken the spot on my bag. Is not terrible. But I did freak out, then after watching this video I realized that one spot alone makes my purse that more unique and special and in no way takes away or depreciates the fact that it is an LV purse after all. ♥️

This is helpful. Im one of those ppl that doesnt like aging but would love neverfull in mono. So before i actually get one, i wanna see how to reduce the aging process!

This is great information. When I got my first LV monogram I had no idea that vachetta was sensitive. I just used and used it and the patina is incredible. The water drops never bothered me and now you can’t see them. I think if you are an impatient person or not particularly careful and the water spots bother you, using the protection products might be a good option though.

I'm so happy I stumbled across this video, I am about to purchase the Alma BB and didn't know which one to go with, the damier ebene or the monogram print. I will be going with the damier ebene since I already have a neverfull with vachetta.

I miss the days of opening a box from LV and smelling that classic LV vachetta leather scent. Recently received a pochette accessoires and I could tell the vachetta leather has been treated. It’s a much lighter shade and the feel is just different there was also zero leather scent. I’m sure it’s been treated to avoid stains and deep darkening patina but that was one of the things that I loved about the classic LV vachetta leather pieces. Just loved the natural patina process.. how it kinda tells a story .. I’m just thankful that I was able to acquire lots of beautiful pieces in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s and got to have that true luxury experience that just seems to be lacking today. Like you I have never treated my vachetta with anything and just let nature take its course and thankfully have had no issues. The quality back then was wonderful. Thank you for sharing you thoughts and tips. Much appreciated 😊

Great tips but it always amazes me how one can wait a few weeks or months to use their new bags *lol* I’d rather just start using right away and let the patina develop as a result my use and not stress about it. Luxury is there to be enjoyed, not fussed over.

I wouldn't described the process as stress per se 😉 it's more the fact that some want to wait more than others. Nothing wrong with either.

After this situation is over Im going to replace some of the leather in vintage pieces I have, so will be going through the patina process

I'm so glad you are still enjoying your Noe Leslie! No, you don't have to leave them out of the dustbags all the time. Just only if you want to patina them faster but it will still continue to patina even inside the dustbag, just a bit slower. 😘

Even though I don't have any bags witch vachetta, I admire my purchases for at least a few weeks before exposing them to "danger" 🙈😂. I know, bags are there to be used, but I don't shop that regular so I want them to look brand new and smell brand new for as long as possible 😳. Hello I have a problem with a wrist of my speedy skate is not the same color as on the rest of the bag. The store told me it’s rare, that it’s not the same animal leather that was used for one of my handles. Have you ever had this trouble or do you know people who have happened? It upsets me😐

Just my opinion but the character brought on by aging makes the bag look most authentic. A fake never could get the gorgeous patina of a true bag. To each their own!

I love monogram but vachetta scares me - I am interested in the Boite chapeau souple which has pre-treated leather I believe so I will try that and see how I feel about the patina and then try more monogram pieces - and there is always the option to replace the leather if it gets to a state you dislike so maybe I need to stop being so scared lool

Definitely try the pre tanning tip at home when not in use 😉 and once you get a slight tan, you don't have to worry as much but do also enjoy it otherwise it takes away the joy ❤️

I like the very light vanchetta color, i prefere avoid more time posible go get darker

A month is a long wait hahaha but I will wait for a week :)

I subscribed 😍 Question, if I let my leather patina to the color I would like, assuming Apple Guard doesn’t change the color as most say, do you know if I spray it will it stop it from furthering the patina process so I’m able to enjoy that current color & protect it from here in out? FashionablyAMY I love the natural leather patina over time as well, it’s just that I plan on keeping it for ever and seen some that turn dark chocolate over so long and want to avoid that to lengthen the beautiful (IMO) rich honey. I just purchased a LV speedy 35b monogram & wanted to ask you after seeing the video if it’s the same if I have it exposed on my closet shelf with the door to the closet closed. Or should I leave It out on top of a table . It’s my first piece with untreated leather. I really hope you see this 😇🤞🏼

Either way it will still continue to patina but inside closed door it will just be slower than out in the open.

I generally do keep them in dust bags unless I'm using the bag frequently. :)

Good video! How I wish I had seen your video earlier, I've ruined my Trouville well-maintained honey patina turned darker after conditions :( Is there a way to salvage it?

Turning dark is normal. Any liquids that touch it will be absorbed since it is raw cowhide. Usually there isn't much you can do so just enjoy the darker patina :)

Apple garde isn't for slowing down the patina process. It's for water proofing, protect against water drops 💦 which will leave water spots

I don't, I really don't use anything or do anything special. I also don't wear hand cream or lotions when I use my vachetta bags. :)

If you must then make sure your hands are completely dry before holding you bags 😉

It's fine to wear it with care even when the bag is brand new, I just would make sure to not get it wet or get water marks when the vachetta is super new.

Would it help to keep the bag indoors sitting in the sun for 30 min to an hour a day? I get great sun in my house. Or we just to leave it out of dust bag in bedroom? Tysm for this video.

Yes you could leave it by the window in the sun for a bit everyday until you're happy with the patina

Is the palm springs mini strap treated leather? Does anyone know if that bags strap is comfortable or not? Especially when wearing for 8 to 10 hrs a day xx

It's treated and comfortable enough but if you wear long hours with as during travel maybe use a thicker strap or use both straps

Hi. :) this video is helpful. My partner gets a lot of natural light. I understand in general your video but I want to make sure I understand your steps. 1.) buy the bag brand new. 2.) have sit out for at least a month? Or how long? -- I love the monogram. I’m thinking about treating it but I need to research more. I just want to make sure I take care of it.

Patina is a natural process of aging so there is no right or wrong. Just do what you can and remember any distinctive signs of wear is unique to your own experience. Enjoy your new bag! Just be more careful when it is super brand new, after a while you will just get the hang of it and you won't mind a blemish here and there.

I want to sell my alma bb so bad, because I feel like I baby it so much I’m so nervous for the vachetta handles to turn that dark color. I also got a few very few rain spots on it that only I genuinely notice... 😭😭 totally wish I got it in DE!!

It takes some getting used to with vachetta and also depends on how accepting of the fact that vachetta does patina. Over time, the spots will even out and once in a bluemoon, it is okay to wipe the leather down gently to even things out and to clean dirt away.

Ennie A Exactly just with baby wipe or any gentle wipes (no alcohol or abrasive agents) or damp microfiber. Just like when you clean any thing but just be aware vachetta is untreated leather so it will dry out the leather if you do it too often but once in a blue moon is okay.

My mother and I have actually gotten handles/bottoms of our bags redone at LV. It looks like a new bag when you do so, and isn’t terribly expensive. So worst case, you can get the leather redone if it darkens so much. I used my Alma nearly everyday at one point and it still looks great! I totally understand the nerves in breaking in a luxury bag, but it’s great to get use of them ❤️

Why can’t LV just used treated leather for the the monogram bags???!!! So frustrating.

They do. And the Speed B monogram with black treated straps is gourgeous!

But not using hand cream all day could cause dry hands and aging. Plus, what about sunscreen? We NEED those products for keeping our skin nice. Seems crazy to protect a bag more than our own body.

You can use products on your skin, just make sure it's well absorbed before handling your bags.

I disagree on the use of baby wipes don't use them on vachette leather even if they are zero alcohol! Why? They do not have the correct pH levels for leather and eventually will break down the connective fibres in the leather. The absolute worst thing, as you are aware, are the white erasers! They really speed up the breakdown of the leather and that process won't be overnight. But why destroy the leather early just trying to keep it unnaturally pale? The effort is doomed to fail anyway, unless there is overuse of the eraser, wrecking the bag. As you imply but are way too polite to say, it's just ignorance of an entirely normal process and misidentification with the earliest and most impractical stage. LV recommend to just wipe the bag if its had water or rain on it with a clean cloth ASAP, no rubbing. Also "vache" means cow. I have a French mother. The 'ette' is an affectation, to make it cute and feminine. You are right about the darkening being a natural function of the untreated leather. People go nuts about trying to keep the vachette in original state. It's impossible and you will damage your bag trying to do that. I have a vintage Celine Alma bag and the leather is quite dark. It is early 1970s or late 1960s I haven't been able to work it out with certainty. But the darkness is a plus, it's not as dark as the coated canvas, it's warmer and richer as a colour. If people cannot appreciate that, they should just buy vinyl bags and not go on and on about vachetta. They're being ridiculous. I just sat through a video with this woman from Nashville TN and she was so obsessed with a small spot on her vachetta, she made it worse by interfering with it. Then she had the handle worked on by LV. Even they told her to not worry about it. but she insisted. Then she said she was going to put it in the sun! The worst thing to do. She admits to not really using the bag anyway. Like what's the point? Such people would be better off avoiding vachetta entirely. IMO.

That’s lame to not use a new purchase. I enjoy the excitement of the whole process of getting a luxury bag. And of course, using it as soon as possible. Your way is different. But I use my bags and don’t baby it as if I will resell down the road. Everybody is different.

Luxury or not, this is how vachetta is. I had no idea when about this when I bought my alma BB 3 months ago. I kept it in the box for a week and started using it right after. I have been very careful about using cream, sanitizer etc but I wish I knew this trick. I noticed that the tag on the alma BB has patches/ shadows on it. Apparently this happens with vachetta. The rest of the vachetta seems somewhat okay. But it seems like it’s going to be very hard to maintain. I want the bag to look new for long and it’s only 3 months old so I’m bummed out to see these changes so soon. so I am extremely paranoid to take it out. I just ordered the LV passy bag which doesn’t have any vachetta on it. Hope it will be much easier to use everyday. Can I still do the process of keeping it in the sun now after having used it?
