Vaccination advice in the age of omicron

Has the risk benefit analysis changed now omicron is the variant?
CDC reference

Updated Jan. 12, 2022
www.gov.uk/government/publica...
The NHS is offering COVID-19 vaccine to children and young people aged 12 to 17 years
Two doses of vaccine 12 weeks apart

UK boosters for 16 and 17 year olds in England
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60011877
www.england.nhs.uk/2022/01/hu...
Starting today
600,000 people aged 16 and 17 have had two doses
889,700 in England have had at least one dose
In line with JCVI guidance
NHS cannot vaccinate 16 and 17-year-olds within 12 weeks (84 days) of a positive COVID-19 test
Reduce further the "very, very small risk" of myocarditis in under-18s
UK, giving Pfizer rather than moderna
www.bhf.org.uk/informationsup...
Can the Covid-19 vaccine cause myocarditis?
In most cases of myocarditis, heart function returns to normal.
Cases, while still very rare, are slightly less rare in children and young people.
It's still the case that millions of children around the world have had a Covid vaccine, virtually all of them without long term side effects.
The Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine has not been linked to an increased risk of myocarditis.
Getting Covid-19 can itself lead to myocarditis, as well as other forms of severe illness.
Who is at risk from myocarditis following the vaccine?
Mostly affected young men aged 12 to 29
Usually after their second dose
Israel study, up to 4 in 100,000 men
Women was fewer than one in 100,000
Are children and young people at higher risk of heart inflammation from the vaccine?
Cases of heart inflammation after the vaccine,
while still very rare, are slightly less rare in children and younger adults (up to the age of 39)
UK up to 15 December 2021, 12 to 17 year olds
39 cases of myocarditis or pericarditis
(18 cases per million doses of vaccine)
18-29 year olds
29 per million doses
30-39 year-olds
22 per million doses
Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and 4 CMOs confirmed the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is safe and effective for children aged 12 to 15,
as well as vulnerable children from the age of five.
Is there a risk of cardiac arrest from the Covid vaccine?
No. There is no evidence that people are at risk of cardiac arrest in the days or weeks following the vaccine.

Evidence from Dr. Peter Gaillard (microparticulate pharmacologist) / astraz. .
Denmark v Norway
Myocarditis 3 times more prevalent in Norway
Found there were no deaths or diagnoses of heart failure in people who were diagnosed with myocarditis or pericarditis after being vaccinated.
In the UK, no figures have been published for cardiac arrests in under-18s following the vaccine,
which means there have been a tiny number too small to be published, or none at all.
Catching Covid-19, on the other hand, can significantly increase your risk of cardiac arrest and death.
Is there any link between the Covid-19 vaccine and cardiac arrests at football matches?
No, there isn’t.
Feeling like you need to be sick
I’ve heard about people getting myocarditis after the vaccine and I’m worried. Should I have my second dose/ booster dose?
Yes. It’s recommended that you have your second dose or booster dose, if you are eligible.
I was diagnosed with myocarditis after having the vaccine. Should I go ahead and book my second dose/ booster dose?
No, you should get advice from your health professional

Thanks for what you do! My mother was having panic attack's listing to the mainstream media news alone at home. She's been at my house for the holidays for a month and I don't have cable, so I keep up to date on new information via the internet. Since my mom has switched her information source she's stopped having panic attack's and feels more informed about what's going on. Now imagine how many people are out there like my mom who are stuck at home saturated by news channels that don't give all the information having panic attack's, anxiety, and depression because they only get one side of the story.

Dr John, I'm in my early 30s and I've struggled with symptoms of myocarditis after taking the 2nd dose (Pfizer), but the GP and the staff at the hospital were very dismissive and completely denied the possibility of a link between the vaccine and my symptoms. I had to go abroad to get the treatment the NHS denied me, and took me several months to recover. My case never made it to the statistics, so there's no doubt in my mind that the cases of myocarditis are underrepresented in the official stats.

A few of my friends and my mother felt it too. Now it may be something else but it is most certainly under reported. Omicron is only causing less severe disease in the vaccinated and previously infected. The immunologically naive are still at the same risk as they were from Delta. Obviously if Omicron is infecting the vaccinated and previously infected and the vaccinated and previously infected are protected against severe illness but not infection by Omicron, then most cases of Omicron will be mild.

Re: needle aspiration in Canada. First, thank you Dr. John for your work in providing unbiased and factual information. (These days, information is not often factual.) I wanted to share my experience with requesting needle aspiration in Manitoba, Canada. I am a 64 yr old woman, healthy other than mild asthma. My first two doses were Pfizer and I wasn’t aware of the issue for those, but after watching your channel I was prepared to request aspiration for my booster dose. When I made my appointment online for the booster I selected Pfizer, not Moderna, because it’s what I’d had before, but when I got to the appointment on December 30 I was asked if I would switch to Moderna. Pfizer was in short supply and health officials wanted to reserve as much for the under 30 age group as possible. I agreed to switch to Moderna and was shown to a different queue and eventually a different room altogether, where Pfizer, Moderna and flu shots were all being given. When it was my turn I asked the nurse if it was possible for her to aspirate the needle. She said she could not because she was a student nurse and wasn’t trained to do that, but she would ask her supervisor. When she returned she went directly to the nurse at the next station and spoke to him. She then informed me that she and the registered nurse would switch stations and he would aspirate the needle. I was treated very respectfully. He asked if I was a health care professional (no) and why I wanted this. I told him that there were some studies suggesting that administering the vaccine into a blood vessel inadvertently may be related to myocarditis, and he nodded. He said I may have more pain in my arm, I said that’s fine. When he aspirated he said “no blood”, because I look away. I could not have asked for a better experience and I’ve been passing this on to everyone I know. I hope this is of interest.

I got pericarditis after the 2nd dose in September (21 years old), and thankfully I got cured super well. Quite a long and boring process, but thankfully I'm alright now. What baffles me is that one of the nurses (who is in her 40s) told me she got the same symptoms as I did at the beginning of the year, when the NHS workers were getting vaccinated. At the time they weren't even thinking there might be a correlation between the vaccine and pericarditis, so in her case it just passed off as a viral infection that caused the problem. This makes me think the stats we have might not be very accurate, and that the actual numbers (especially regarding older people and NHS workers, who got vaccinated earlier than others) might be greater than the official ones.

Now, two previously fit and healthy firemen are currently off work with the condition at my husband's station...They are both vaccinated and developed the condition after vaccination but have been told by the medics that it is categorically not related at all to having been vaccinated and thus has not been reported as such. I asked my brother, a GP, if he had seen any cases in younger people. He said one so far. He was concerned and contacted a cardiologist for his opinion who dismissed it as unrelated to the vaccine...thus it was not reported. Twitter recently added a new terms and conditions saying people can't post anything negative about them or risk being shutdown. There is a culture that has been created where you mention something negative and you're immediately called an 'anti vaxxer'. That in itself gets a stinging attack from all sides. So now doctors and nurses just think 'what's the point, I don't want my like to become hell for speaking out'. Just look at that NHS doctor recently who spoke to Savid Javid. Dr John. As you will no doubt recall, the JVCI recommended against vaccines for 12 to 16 year olds (High School children) in the UK. The UK Government chose not to follow this advice and vaccinated on the basis of ‘minimising the risk of school closures’. If the JVCI assessed that the risk was not high enough to require vaccinations with the Delta variant on health grounds, how on earth can the risk be high enough with the Omicron variant, which we all know poses significantly less risk than Delta. If the JVCI advice does not change in respect of Omicron, then something seems to be wrong!

Didn't even finish his PhD and still chooses to call himself Dr rather than just MD to lend more credibility to own name. Both have misled the public on their intentions and made false public statements pushing agendas (meaning, confirming bias towards the opposite by actively ignoring the good parts of the vaccination process) contrary to official for own gain. I'd rather hear from actual vaccine developers, researchers who write the review papers, people in UK Health Agency ergo those that have legislative power rather than some 2 people with a clear case of ego who were barely involved in the process.

What is being missed here is that, because immunity doesn’t develop for at least 14 days, those who have been jabbed are classed as “unvaccinated“ until at least 14 days. He has had 2 incidents where the paramedics have had to stop and restart his heart with medicine. He is an athlete, so his coaches are aware of it now, and he has been taught how to monitor himself during his games. I think the key is knowing if you have this (rare) condition. There is more risk when he gets older if he plays intense sports (like basketball and soccer) because according to the doctors the heart can become less tolerant to fluctuations the older you get.

No, the nurse/doctor should not aspirate the vaccine when injecting into the deltoid muscle, where your COVID-19 vaccine is administered. Here's what we found: Dr. Gastaldo explains the idea behind aspirating, or pulling back the plunger when the needle is injected with the vaccine. "The thought process is as an extra layer of protection, let's pull back the plunger to make sure there's no return blood, which would signify the needle is in the vein and not the muscle," he says. This social media advice partly stems from a recent study. "I am aware of a clinical study done in august of 2021 where they directly injected a vaccine into the vessels of a mouse. In that study model the mice did get myocarditis. Again when we give the vaccine we are not injecting into the blood vessel, they're going it into the muscle," Dr. Gastaldo says. The Infectious Diseases Society of America states that the World Health Organization and CDC no longer recommend aspiration of syringe plunger during intramuscular injections. The best practice is not to aspirate. "You can see where people want to connect the dots and say 'as an extra layer of protection, I want them to pull back on the plunger not to hit any blood vessels.' Guess what? There are no major blood vessels there. If that was the case, we would do blood draws from there and we don't do that with patients in the hospital," Gastaldo explains, adding, "We have given over 440 million doses of these vaccines. If there was an issue of us giving a vaccine into the deltoid, we would have known it by now."

And Dr. John, thanks for emphasizing that the UK Heart Docs (where Aspiration is “frowned upon”) are citing data from Denmark (where Aspiration is recommended!), instead of Norway (where it isn’t), to underscore how rare post-vaxx cardiac complications are. I’m quite certain that peri- / myo-carditis is severely under-reported. To Denmark, So. Korea, Japan, parts of France, we should add Finland, which is now also re-recommending Aspiration.

How do the mandates destroy the NHS workforce? As a counterpoint, the NHS workforce has been devastated by the affects of so many people being out on sick leave after catching Covid. I can only imagine how much worse of a situation we would be in today if many of those people were unvaccinated and were getting sicker than they are now. Less staff, not to mention much higher hospitalizations, nightmare scenario similar to what US is seeing thanks to widespread vaccine hesitancy and lack of mandates there.

The comments that are against the Vaccines are about as Partisan as they get. It's possible but not guaranteed that the side effect came from the vaccine. The issue is when individuals go to their doctor and the doctors says 'No it's not' they don't trust the doctor they've been seeing for years, sometimes decades. I won't say it's not possible but the term is Cause and Effect because Effect does not always match Causation.

Well as a nurse in Australia you would know the time between shots was reduced to 4weeks putting people at higher risk of myocarditis , but now the data is saying 12 weeks the data always said 12 weeks . Ask yourself why ,if the safety trials weren’t rushed and done properly they would have picked up the waning of the vaccines protection , and myocarditis as an adverse event , so now it looks like someone lied or the medical industry is incompetent, take your pick .

Started coughing up some light green flem, not a lot. Hurts my throat more than anything when i do. No paracetamol or codeine will kill the pain. Tried throat sprays n lozenges.
