V7E24: Out of Season on the Upper Peninsula
Winter weather and freezing temperatures give way to a snowy adventure on Michigan's Upper Peninsula. This week, I loop around the peninsula, dabbling in the backcountry while trying not to get the Jeep stuck, and experiencing a smattering of unique wilderness destinations. For some relief from unrelenting snowfall, I enjoy an evening in Munising. The week concludes in Cheboygan, as I cross the Mackinac and continue south.

Start sharing his videos with friends and Family, that's what I do. I don't really see Chris being one of those guys on here that, obsesses with the amount of followers that he has. So with that being said, it really falls upon us as his faithful followers, to share his videos with others, to get the word out about Chris's wonderful Channel. But yes, I totally agree. However being someone who's been falling Chris, for many years now. I've had the pleasure of watching the popularity of Chris's Channel grow, yes his channel is quite addicting. Every Saturday morning without fail, me and my young son sit and watch Chris's Channel as we enjoy our Saturday morning breakfast. I guess you can say, for us it's become a little bit of a tradition now. So my advice to all of Chris's faithful followers, share his videos. Because honestly, all Chris ready worry about is, what's over the horizon.

What a great episode! The scenery, the self recovery, Roam Inn, Gallery Coffee - amazing. The Big Spring ! How cool was that.
Stunning views, excellent photography. I love your videos Chris!! You have a way of making us feel as if we are on adventure with you! Only warmer.👍
I was born in Michigan, spent many years of my life as a child exploring the dense black pine forest's of the U.P. Thank you for taking me home, it's been awhile since I've thought about those wonderful memories. Thank you for that Chris. You have safe travels back home, I'm looking forward to your next video share.
I can see a lot of pride in those Yooper businesses. They're welcoming and well-kept. I'm a northern Wisconsin boy who used to visit the Ontonagon area occasionally to go camping and skiing. Thanks so much for the memories!
Safe trip home and enjoy the time off Chris.
I love your videos, but I'm glad to hear you're taking a break. Much diserved! Amazing places, beautiful scenery. Thankyou so much for sharing it with us.
First timer!!!! Awsome! Jeep! One of my favorite places on earth "The UP!! ABSOLUTLY LOVED THE SNOW FALLING VIDIOS CANT TELL U HOW MUCH I ENJOYED IT!!!! THANKYOU!!! GO BACK IN THE FALL YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!!!
Such great photography and was very informative. You describe your outdoor Michigan experience and make it interesting, not boring at all! Thank you!
That self propelled ferry was awesome!!!
So very nice, the U.P. is a grand place, and like you said, you just scratched the surface. One thing about the U.P. that tourists need to know, there are really only two seasons up here, shoveling season and swatting season!
Magnificent scenery and videography, and also great content..... as usual . I do wish that you could have someone special to share all these adventures and enchanting places with . I know she will turn up one day ....... at the supermarket 😉 ? But until then you'll have to put up with us !! Drive safe and mind the ditches !
Chris, glad to see you made it to Michigan. At least you missed the black flies and mosquitoes. There are lots more hidden gems in the UP, hope you can make it back sometime.
The most underrated place in the country, the UP! You have to go back in the summer when all the snow is melted. The forests are endless, the great lakes are mesmerizing, and the backcountry travel is incomparable to any place in the contiguous US!! Also, they get more snowfall then other spot in the lower 48 averaging over 300 inches per year!!!

Sounds like a good way to die from carbon monoxide. Please do not run the jeep while snoozing or relaxing in the ursa minor.

@@tehtopher 😂😂 Perhaps if he takes a hose funnels it from the exhaust back into the truck whilst sitting in a closed garage. Otherwise I would say that he would be fairly safe using the vehicle as intended. Additionally we are mentioning cold starts in the morning.

A remote starter will run the vehicle for 15 mins. Long enough to warm it up but you would not die of carbon monoxide. Besides as long as you have no leaks in your exhaust it won't happen .sounds like a good idea to me.
This is great to watch during the sweltering heat of summer... makes me almost miss winter! LOL
The UP is at the top of my bucket list. Thank you for sharing your trip with us.
Chris: I have watched your videos from the beginning, but your Michigan UP trip really struck a chord with me. I am a native Michigander, and I have been to most of the places featured in this video, several times, often 4x4ing in my own Jeep and several other 4-wheel drive vehicles, and camping "back in the day" (I am now 63 years old, and have come to greatly appreciate very much a soft warm bed and heated abode!). You have done an excellent job of portraying our beautiful Upper Peninsula; however, you have only scratched the surface. I sincerely hope that you return soon to Michigan, to continue your exploration of our magnificent state. Keep up the good work. Happy Thanksgiving!~ --Vern Bennett (Portage, MI; and Fife Lake, MI)
That self-recovery was awesome!
Hey Chris, I have the same model JK as you except in rescue green. Listening to your engine, when you get to PA, something you need to add to your to do list on your jeep is packing the bearings on the 2 idler pulleys. I can hear them whining because they are running dry. Its easy to do. Just pull your serpentine belt, take off the 2 idler pulleys, and with a very small flat screw driver remove the plastic sleeves on the bearings and pack them with a bit of grease. If the bearings feel loose, then replace it. by the sound of them, they shouldnt be too far gone yet so pack them. Your engine wont have that high pitch wine, under acceleration, anymore. Beautiful scenery, youve stepped up your game here lately, Great camera work too. Jesus Saves!!!! God Bless!!!!!!
Dude, I did almost the same trip in my Jeep to the U.P. as you did only about a month earlier and missed all the glorious snow. But since I now live in Montana, I won't be missing it for long. Thanks for posting this, I don't vlog and it's fun to relive the moment.
You’re a real trooper Chris! I was cold the whole episode! I felt I should drop a line to tell you how much my wife and I enjoy your weekly vlogs! We have been hooked now for quite some time and she stays up to watch it with me when I get home around midnight, even though she has to be up at seven. She especially appreciates that you don’t have any annoying music, only natural sounds! She hates trail recon videos! Anyhow, we will miss you next week and look forward to the next video. God bless and safe travels! John in eastern Oregon.
Thanks for another enjoyable evening on the couch beside my wife enjoying your adventure! As Mainers know, even four wheel drive and locking hubs are no match for 8 inches of slippery snow. It'll still suck you right into the ditch. Good job extricating on your own. Glad you and the Jeep are OK this time. Safe journeys home!
Spent 6 weeks on the UP at KI Sawyer AFB. I saw 2 feet of snow in 24hours and - 25 degrees F. I loved it!❄️❄️❄️ everybody got around on snowmobiles.
Very cool of you to travel in my neck of the woods! Upper Peninsula is a beautiful place that is far from the hustle and bustle of big cities. Stay for a winter and you would be amazed at the amount of snow we get and you might just be addicted to the peace and quiet.
Chris, Loved this weeks episode. Really like seeing when you treat yourself to a hotel. You deserve it. Happy you will be going home to be w/ your family this holiday season. Safe travels and will look 4wd to catching up w/ you in a couple weeks. A loyal Patreon, Marc from Miami
Fanatastic to see places we know from our summer travels in many feet of snow, glad you were able to see some of the highlights of the UP, but do plan on returning in the summer when it’s warm!
That snow is amazing. Love your channel.
Happy travels and happy holidays my amazing friend Chris! Thanks for taking me along on your adventures!
Mackinaw City is my home town. Also lived in St Ignace for a few years. I enjoy this very much!! Great job!!!
YES!!!! Beer and popcorn is ready!
Chris, Glad to see you enjoying my home state of Michigan. You know that the legend lives on from the Chippewa on down of the big lake they called Gitche Gumee. Well anyway, safe travels back to the Keystone State, Perry
The UP is my favorite place on earth, especially in the winter. If for no other reason than missing out on the bugs, winter camping in the UP is spectacular. It looks like you hit some nice spots. If you come back this Summer or Fall to explore the forest roads you'll find even more. I've spent 2-3 weeks of my year in the UP since I was young. I'll never see all of it in my lifetime.
Love to see you back here without snow. While you were able to see some cool things, it’s the backcountry adventures that really makes the UP so much fun. It’s a shame you weren’t able to access it on this trip
I live in the UP. Its really an amazing place, it never stops being beautiful. You should head up the keweenaw peninsula next time.
The great U.P. eh! My back yard and life long home. I hope you plan to come back some time, there are so many more great places to explore.

YES! YES!!! YES!!! SOO MUCH MORE TO ENJOY I LOVE THE UP!!!! FALL AND WINTER!!!!
Wow great snow shots; I about yelled when the jeep stuck series came up......... cheered when you cleared it. My new Rubicon is nearly built, winch just went on, so I'm going to try to get out and enjoy some of the countryside around Oregon and learn how to handle the little setbacks like you do! Another great video; sure gonna miss next weeks............Stay safe!
Wow! You made one Video of whole upper peninsula, that I made of it last 6 months😅 what a great editing and beautiful video. Thank you for great winter adventures.
You deserve a break. Safe travles home. Have a wonderful holidays season.
What a great adventure! We got our trip to the U.P. This summer. Western WA to Ishpaming to Yellowstone to Idaho Falls back to western WA! We hit Lake Superior, Porcupine Mountains, a bunch of falls, Lake Goegebic Watersmeet, Ewin, Ironwood.... the fall for the leaves changing is the best time of year though.
Amazing video. Awesome scenery. Keep up the great work
Great video. I really enjoy following your journey.
Keep it up Chris! Love, love, love the videos. Please never give up this journey!
You need to do the fantastic Lake Superior Circle Tour. Fantastic scenery all the way around the lake, and good camping in state and national forests. By the way, the best part of the UP is from Munising west. Be sure to hike around Presque Isle in Marquette, climb Sugarloaf Mt., and visit the Keweenaw Peninsula and Porqupine Mountains State Park.
Another enjoyable video buddy enjoy your time at home with the family. I'll be watching for your next vids. Till then stay safe
Your videos are so entertaining. Got up at 6:00 am in Ontario just to see the new episode. As usual it was magical. We will miss you next week. Really look forward to where your adventure leads you in 2020.
I know the snow and cold is a pain for living, but it makes great videography! Loved the browns in the waterfall contrasted against the white snow at 12:04!
Wish you a very warm stay with your family............have a nice time!
You need to come back to AZ for the winter, Chris. The temperature is 60 to 80 degrees right now

Not only that but more people watch, the Southwest is where it’s at.
Some well deserved rest and recovery. Thanks for all you share.
Chris, we’ve been binge watching your content for the past week and I just realized I should share a grilled cheese tip with you. Instead of using butter, spread mayonnaise on the bread. You get a beautiful crispy crust without a mayonnaise taste.
Great episode, Chris. You captured the natural beauty of the UP to share with the world. I lived in the UP '82-'83 near Marquette and it is just as I remember it. I agree with Jon below; you should do the Pure Michigan commercials. As much as I will miss next weeks episode, enjoy time with your family and hopefully the jeep won't need too much TLC. Glad you had those orange un-sticky thingys. They sure did come in handy and worked very well. Safe travels and see you soon. Have a wonderful and Happy Thanksgiving. 👍
Great job Chris. Tons of hidden beauty in the snow and cold that most of us wouldn't venture out into.
That sub looked beautiful
That was another great episode and now have added Upper Michigan to my bucket list. Chris thanks for all of the work you do and enjoy your Family time!!
Fun to see you in my home state. Beautiful video of some really cool places. Looks like you are out of the big woods just prior to deer hunting too. Not too much remote drive opportunity as you head south through MICHIGAN , but some trails near Luther and sunrise lake (le Roy to Clare). Safe travels through Michigan.
Welcome back to the states Chris. He snow and falls were absolutely stunning. Also a great real world example of why everyone should carry the MaxTraxx in the winter. Safe travels back to PA, and wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🍽
You deserve a shoutout for thinking of naming every single photographer who's work you showed while in the art gallery. I would NOT have thought of that, and photographers get little enough credit as it is. Kudos to you.
Sounded like your power steering pump is starting to whine... might have the shop guys give that a look. Also, I hope you pick up at least 1 set of tire chains, preferably ice bar chains. Chains on all 4 tires will get you out of a bad situation when you need them. They also instill confidence in snow and ice. They will even work in mud! Cleaning them after mud not so much fun but hey, at least you're not stuck! They are easy and quick to put on once you have done it a couple times. LOL the key is to put them on before you get stuck. Great video as usual Chris. Thanks
Safe travels and enjoy family time. Love the content you're putting out. You're giving me the travel/adventure bug.
Thank you for the wonderful season Chris. Enjoy a well deserved and well earned break and rest at home with family.
I’ve watched every second episode you’ve put out and has I spired me to be outdoors more. Thanks for that! Keep up to great work Chris!!!!
Great episode..! Thanks for showing us that fantastic scenery Chris. Safe travels home👍
Thank you Chris , have a safe and blessed holidays.
Chris this is one of your more adventurous treks, especially with the snow and cold weather and such beautiful scenery. Aren't you worried about not being able to start the jeep? Yikes...Brrrrrrr. Enjoy time with your family and safe travels...
Great video, love your rig. I live in Northern Michigan and have a place in Paradise, Michigan in the Eastern UP on Whitefish Bay, Lake Superior. A 22 degree day is balmy in the UP anytime after the start of deer season, November 15th. Too much clothes always comes back to bite you. Travel light and move fast, you will never have a problem with the cold.
I just found your channel by suggestion and subbed. I get to travel all over Michigan for work and love it when I’m in the U.P. The quality and editing in this video is amazing. I will be binge watching your vids! Thanks!
Thank you Chris... Great video..with beautiful scenery. Safe travels.. 🙏👏🇺🇸👍
Thanks for another great season of travels! Enjoy the holidays and see you next year for more adventures!
Like your setup. It's simple yet your well prepared. Gets you in more places. Good job and you've picked out places I intend to see.
Safe travels and enjoy your family time. We’ll be here when you get back.
Very nice video featuring my hometown. It was nice to chat with you while I was working at the burger place you stopped at. Looks like you managed the U.P. snow pretty well! Safe travels and hope to see more of your adventures through your videos.
I am relieved that you left Canada and are making your way back to warmer temps in the U.S. Travelling alone in warm weather has risks but not the same risks as travelling alone in freezing temps. Love your adventures and I look forward to seeing more of the USA, thanks to you. Great work, stay warm and safe.
absolutely stunning as always, Thank You Chris. Enjoy the holidays with your family.
Thank you Chris. Beautiful video as always. Happy Thanksgiving. Take care and hope to see content when you mentioned next.
I love you videos. All of them.
Welcome to Michigan!!!
My wife and I watch every week. Really looks great to be so free. Excellent video work and editing. Keep um coming. Thanks 😊
Enjoy your well-deserved video editing break and hanging out with your family! Thank you for your videos.

Great Video Chris! Loved all the adventures and exploring. Definitely go back in the spring. Also, snow shoes. You’ll be able to hike much further and longer. Thanks for the heads up and see you in two weeks
Chris, As always we love your videos. You do an amazing job and your journeys inspire more than you know. As always be careful. Ward and Ellen
Enjoyed the video. Take it easy on the trip back and may it be a safe one with resorative as well as great family and holiday time!
Good time to be with your family. Hope you able to have a good visit with your son. I loved all the snow but, I know it must have been hard to stay warm. Glad to see you were able to find some CHEEZ-ITS. Take care and thanks for taking us along. Great video!
As a Journalist you do a great job with detail. Michigan
Thank you Chris 😎👍
my favorite video yet, I love winter in the woods, pure clean crisp snow, I use to travel to and thru the UP twice a month had a buddy who lived in Petosky in the northern part of the lower state
Wow, thanks for this. I used to live up that way on the Canadian side (also incredibly beautiful), and you hit a lot of places I knew well. It was wonderful to see them again.
Have a safe trip home and enjoy some good time with the family. Hope to see more travels and trails.
Spectacular video... Thanks to share in extreme conditions! Ciao from Italy
Thanks for the great video enjoy your time off.Safe travels.
Awesome video Chris👍👍
