V4E11: Area Family Takes to Wilderness Living
In this episode, I travel north, deep into the Canadian bush where I visit my aunt and uncle at their off-grid log home near Germansen, Landing, British Columbia, for the very first time. There, I reconnect with family, experience their lifestyle, and explore the surrounding mountains in the Jeep.

I lived in Germansen Landing when your aunt and uncle first arrived. I remember the day they arrived. This would have been in the 1960's. They stopped at our house and visited on their way to their place. We admired their pioneering strong spirit. They lived about 6 miles north of us. They had 3 young children. Your uncle made snowshoes which were highly sought after for their high quality.
I was their neighbour when I was little. We lived at 12 mile. I miss it so much. This was amazing to watch. Now I have to go visit, again.
Best NO DRONE/FANCY MUSIC channel on youtube.
Hey I grew up there! Ron and Ruth are the coolest. Ron is a legend up there. I grew up in a cabin at 12 mile and they live at 17 mile. That meadow you were overlooking on the cliff is 14 mile lookout. I miss it up there so much. It’s been about 10 years since I’ve been there. Great video!
BEST EPISODE EVER!!! Your uncle and aunt live a great life. They are very well sustained. I mean, he builds everything himself plus a wife who loves gardening. Can't ask for anything better.
Uncle Ron is a bad ass. A man that does and just doesn't talk.
Wow, your Aunt and Uncle live like absolute KINGS with that amazing setup! I think a setup like that will inspire just about anyone! ❤️
I really enjoyed watching this video! It definitely took me back a few years. I spent my childhood up there, did homeschooling, and lived so very different than kids nowadays. I wouldn't change it for the world 🥰
As appealing as the nomadic "van life" is, I think I could be completely content in a secluded, self-sufficient, BEAUTIFUL location like this one. I could always take a short vacation on the road once in a while, but I honestly don't think I'd want to. Other than a little clutter (that I'd likely have too), this place is absolutely PERFECT. I hope you keep in touch with your aunt and uncle now that you've visited for the first time. They're living a life many of us dream about, and they've obviously got a lot to teach those who'll listen.
Your uncle did it right. Far enough away from EVERYONE, yet close enough to go visit someone (if needed). Man is Ron a treasure trove of ideas, creations and inspiration. True meaning of Get'R Done!
Wow, their homestead is incredible! You uncle is a genius, he can build and maintain anything! So impressive!
This is what I look forward to most on Fridays, but I try to ration out the episode so I can enjoy it longer. Watch a little now and then finish it tomorrow over tea in the morning and then hot chocolate at night.
I had the pleasure of staying at your Aunt and Uncles place in 2013. Such an amazing experience.
Chris you’ve got yourself some amazing relatives, anyone would be proud of the life they’ve created.
Wow your Aunt and Uncles place is amazing, really inspiring. Thanks for sharing 👍
Man your uncle is a "Master"...Wow what a tight ship he runs......years of experience...
Just saw this. Good to see that Ron and Ruth Ann are still going strong. I grew up in Germansen. I was friends with their eldest son Chris. (He's my age within a few months) And of course Angie and Erik.
This is awesome. Auntie and uncle are an inspiration, and you are too.
one of my favorite episodes by far that i've watched. Love the family history and wonder where your name takes place someday like your aunt and uncle. Loved it!
Been working my way backwards through episodes and enjoying everyone of them. Learning a lot and stoking my fire to get out and find my own path, thanks for sharing your amazing journey with us! This episode has to be one of my favorite episodes yet!
