I am so happy with my decision of buying v strom 250 , completed 10k kms recently and its worth every penny, each component is of top notch and maintenance cost is really minimal, i usually get 42 kmpl and can easily cruise at 100 all day long , after the third service on 10 k kms , the service centre guy told me from spark plug to all other stuff, its all brand new , Suzuki bikes are toyota of motorcycles, it can never fail you. RE, ktm etc will fail and suck more money from your pocket but Suzuki wont, plus v strom has amazing looks and road presence, excited for v strom 800DE in India

Nice advice. IMHO affordability being a given, big bikes are good and comfortable for highway touring, whereas smaller bikes like KTM 390 adv, VStrom 250 etc are better on bad or no roads. Heavy bikes are difficult to handle on extreme bad roads. Lighter bikes give much greater confidence on any kind of road, and they're not bad on highways, eg 390 adv keeps up with bigger bikes easily on highways. Again affordability is a crucial aspect, especially in long term. Big bike tyres itself cost more than 35 k. what to say about the insurance, spares etc. 390 adv is super cheap to maintain, cheaper spares, service, including tyres.

true thing said also same crosses my mind as well regarding my Re himalayn of selling off as in city i ride's bajaj 200ns bs4 but then i rides it few times it gives the feel of riding with torque is more fun

Spares and service are the only problem with Suzuki. I always used to wonder , why Suzuki is still struggling in India. Price is less, quality is top notch .

Sir, I would like to know your thoughts on Nx500 that has been launched recently. Previous to launch when people would move from single cyl eng to twin cyl in tourer section, kind off only option within a 10L budget was versys 650. With nX coming into market what should be a consumer choice and on what grounds!

If your requirement is hardcore off roading then only go for xpulse. Otherwise v-strom is best any day.

Versys is a top-heavy bike also its a highway tourer motorcycle. Therefore, talking it offroad is a chalange...also if u wana go for adventure the lighter the better...but Indian market is full with heavy offroading machines with less power which beats the purpose of offroading adventure...something like yamaha wr250 or klx 300 or honda crf 300 would be better suitable for adventure purpose...

yeah.. but to be honest majority of people dont want to do heavy off roading .. even on famous circuits these days off roading is very less ... but yeah the bikes you mentioned are some serious off road machines...

@FalconRiders yeah but for touring, i would really consider something simple, light, and reliable...not heavy and underpowered like Royal enfield. Riders dont want top speed of 180...120 is just as fine and safe...sold my versys650 a few months back and bought a zx4r...now looking for a cheap, light weight and reliable offroading motorcycle but none available...
