Good for you, bro... Getting there and taking the bull by the horns! I've been nursing along my 2000 Valkyrie Interstate for the last 8 years & 144k miles. It certainly makes it easier to "ground" a bike for maintenance if there's other options in the garage. Myself, I also have a 1995 BMW R1100GS (needs front brake calipers rebuilt & also a clutch), a 1997 Honda ACE 1100 Shadow (my 16 year old son's bike) that needs carbs rebuilt and a stator replaced and a 2000 BMW R1100RT (purchased June 2019 @ 48k miles) which needed some TLC (i.e. final drive rebuild, fuel lines & in-tank filter replaced, oils changed, TB's sync'ed) but is now @ 70k miles and running very well for a 20 year old machine. Oh yeah, just remembered, the Valkyrie needs an oil change & new air filter within the next 500-miles. LoL Best of luck to you getting your 109 back in service soon!

I like to do my own work too. A shop is probably good, but when you do it yourself you know it's done right and everything is torqued properly. I think you're more careful to get things 100% right and not just good enough doing it yourself. Sometimes you might have to take your bike in. During those times I make sure the engine is totally spotless so they can see I pay attention to everything and will be checking. In a shop there are a lot of ways to be distracted and lose focus. Some mechanics have better skills and work ethics. In your own garage you're not thinking about the wife and watching the clock. Hurry up means fuck up.

What's funny is I rebuilt my calipers completely both front and back no problems. Got to the last bolt and over torque'd it by 10 pounds cracking the mount 😂😂😂 Misread the torque wrench and set it wrong.

@@BrandonBicasso sometimes we screw something up that should be as simple by being careless, but if we learn something then sometimes its okay. I dont know what your settings should be but maybe there was a hairline stress crack already. We can just go with that.

True. The rivets aren't supposed to have that much play, though. When I bounced the tire, it sounded like pennies hitting the ground. Also, the thickness was out of spec. Trust me, it needed to be changed, lol.
