    His acting was effective for the miniseries. Two of the the main emotions of the story were shock and hysteria, and he communicated those perfectly.

    I don't think he overacted in the original miniseries. In TFB and the weekly series, though, he didn't have Ken Johnson to reign him in, and the bad writing didn't help.

    man, why the hate? this was the quintessential series of the 80s. this series was HUGE. back when mini-series were the ultimate in entertainment for television. you didn't want an actual series. you wanted a mini-series. filmed on tight budgets and even tighter schedules, the fans were lucky to see any acting at all. Singer was at his all time best in hamming it up for this show. Im sure doing re-shoots for numerous takes was not in the budget. On top of that, Singer's rep was sooo wide reaching during this series run he could have been caught red-handed in a scandal and everyone would have just glanced over it. Hlaf the reason the new V reboot didnt take was the missing characters and actors themselves in Singer and Ironside. These two on screen at one time was enough to melt your television set from pure cringy cheesiness. The only way to top it would have been to have William Shatner do a guest spot. In the end, these actors gave America exactly what they wanted....classic cheese with a side of cheese on a bun made of cheese.

    Lol. I'm rewatching this series now it's so campy but still draws you in I still love it all these years later. You can really see how it influenced later shows/movies like Starship Troopers with the news tv reports on the war effort.

  • @LordBicen
    @LordBicen11 жыл бұрын

    yeah, but remember you cant blame him tottally. the director sets the stage for what he wants, and most of these small time pimadonna tv directors dont want to listen to cast input, cause most of them are only there for that one episode. sure there were some seriously stupid moments in the series, but he did damned good with REAL directors in both mini series. the series was pressed a lot of time to deliver each ep, and they geared it for the kids mainly taking it away from its adult audience.

    This is a bit harsh, yes, he didn't have the acting ability of a De Niro or Pacino, but he was given some terrible lines, and the director has to take some blame. When it came to the action scenes, I thought that he was excellent.

    This is the same guy that faced off against the visitor's supreme martial arts master... who was so fearful that everyone trembled in his presence... and beat him in about 10 secs. So I agree with the other guy... he was simply that heroic, how could we possibly understand what that's like? On a more serious note, as much as I adore the old V, the script was often full of extremely cheesy lines by today's standards. But hey, Mike will always be one of my fav characters of all time.

    Very cheesy overacting. But I don't it's entirely Singer's fault. Take a look at that stiff piece of cardboard Clive Owen and tell me which is truely worse. Directors often compensate by trying too hard to get their actors to look natural when acting out a scene. Unfortunatly there's very few actors who can pull it off.

    Oh man, I loved me some V - The Final Battle back in the 80's. I remember they played it over a series of a few days on, like, NBC or ABC. Back then Cable was too expensive, so we had a satellite dish which got me Nickelodeon, then the 6 local cannels. Shows like this were almost a National event, like when Michael Jackson unveiled his huge statue. Everyone gathered around the TV after dinner. There were a lot of cool things in the 80's, which were just magical to us as children...
