    Wow! You're right! It's a 1930s Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 airplane engine... I'm mind blown by that, I couldn't figure it out. I'll update the title.

    @@RemoteTrooperin western Oregon. There is a World War II airplane museum. There is a standing building big enough to put a Zepplin in it 😲and in amongst all the stuff was a Rolls-Royce engine like that …that had a bullet ….a big bullet had hit one of the pistons and locked it up. and they tore it down enough so you can see where the big ass bullet stopped the piston. That must have been shot from a BIG gun . Great show , thank you 👍🏼

    One thing I'll always remember about Lake Mead in the seventies used to go there to water ski remember waking up at the campground and it was like 100° at 5 or 6 in the morning flies all over you in your face flip flops were the biggest thing you had to get those on your feet in a hurry the sand dirt whatever like 500 Degrees I think we spent about 95% of our time in the water poor dog your dog is definitely not a heat dog and being black probably absorbs all that heat even worse hope his paws are alright stay cool

    The big engine, is a Packard V1650 aero engine. Possibly a -7 variant from a P-51 Mustang. Not a Rolls Royce Merlin, but the Detroit built version for USAF.

    They raced unlimited hydroplanes powered by Rolls Merlins, Packard Merlins and Allisons: all V12 engines in the 1950’s. Many boats blew their engines due to extreme stress on the motor due to excessive rpm’s. Sending a connecting Rod through the block would render the motor fairly useless at a time these were still WWII surplus. Perhaps a boat owner offered the hydroplane owner money for the “useless” block, and it became a HEAVY anchor.

    Kinda thinking that's a RR Merlin. Those are spark plug cables in the valley and there's a big ole honkin' blower on the back. Judging by the holes in the front case and the oil pan, my guess is it was repurposed as an anchor.

  • @RemoteTrooper

  • @1crustyoldmsgtretired870

    @1crustyoldmsgtretired870

    Жыл бұрын

    @@RemoteTrooper something like that. It's a centrifugal supercharger like the compressor side of a turbo. It's driven from the crank through a gearing system. It may have even been a 2 speed supercharger.

  • @mattsta1964
    @mattsta19648 ай бұрын

    It's definitely a Merlin engine but it has a supercharger and intercooler which would not be required on a marine engine. So I would conclude that this Merlin engine was designed to be fitted into an aircraft. The supercharger and intercooler looks like the Merlin licenced to be manufactured by Packard for the P51 Mustang, the V-1650-7. As for why it's there? Well, that sure is a mystery!

    never ever an airplane engine, NO ! no propeller shaft recognizable, and no reduction gear, but: in the front it looks more like a high-pressure pump to me, like the ones used in powerful water jet drives ... 12 cylinder V engine, 2 valves per cylinder ... if yo guy have more detailled pics, please show me ! thanks !

  • @catshotfourone7951

    The gear reduction unit along with the prop shaft is broken off along with half the casing and what you thought was a high pressure water pump is actually the supercharger, the engine is a Rolls Royce Merlin more than likely made by Packard.

    It is a aircraft engine, Rolls-Royce Merlin and the gear reduction unit is broken off only half the casing remains and what looks like a high pressure water pump is actually the supercharger, these engines have overhead cams and yes 4 valves per cylinder, these engines were popular in race boats from the 1950's until 70's and have 1,650 cubic inches, the largest aircraft engine ever put into production had 4,360 cubic inches made by Pratt & Whitney.
