I know exactly what you’re saying. I got a Canam xmr 1000 and got it new last year- thinking I should not have to work on it- right? Nope news flash for me 😂 Anyway, I go through what you’re going through right now quite a bit now . Excavator - to four wheeler
Josh, I will watch whatever you put out. Your very thorough, descriptive, in depth explanations are on a level “10”. Thank you sir.
I always love it when management comes back to you after you’ve broken everything down and said oh we don’t wanna spend any money now not realizing that you’re breaking half of everything that you take off in the process and have to replace it anyways
I loved the video, Josh. Please make more videos like this one. You have excellent skills to explain what you are doing. I am sure anything you fix (and show it to us) will be well done. I heard some miscommunication at the end of the video about the planning of the project. LOL 😅😂😅 I "love" when that happens 😅😂😅 MUCHAS GRACIAS SEÑOR!!
The Hydralic Press Channel reference was quite a nugget!
Great new video Josh. Pretty interesting working on the smaller machines. Cheers man👍💪👊

Thanks Jeri. Thanks for watching even if it isn't a big truck.
Enjoy, oh my yes! You bring back memories of a Fiat I once owned. Had a bad front wheel bearing and stripped it down. Took a look at the bearing and ordered a new one 'cause the replacement part from Fiat was ridiculously expensive. My vice would not move the bearing, so off to the machine shop, who tried a 20 Ton press which would not move the bearing, so they moved to the "big boy" and then scared the crap out of themselves. The bearing let go with what sounded like a 12 gauge shot-gun firing and they thought the hub had broken. Lucky for both of us that it had not, and the cleaned up hub took the new bearing nicely. Gotta love the rust belt, grin.
Josh, those weird looking bolts that hold the caliper on are typical of disc brake systems. They are made that way so that the caliper can float around on those bolts as the rotor warps. A fast and easy way to separate the spindle from the ball joints is the smack the ears on the spindle with a decent sized ball peen hammer, and that will cause a vibration which will break the friction of the ball joint wedged into the spindle.
I can honestly tell you Josh. That was the most entertaining video I've ever seen you do. I'm used to doing all the small machines and everything up to a semi but I felt like you did working on that. Like I do working on a D 740 rock truck. Good job for getting an all back together sir
This is Nice too. 👌😄👍 Change of pace, once in a while something different to stay fresh. Good job, Josh and Tech A ! 😆👍
That was really interesting. I have one of these ATVs and so it was kinda relevant!
I love my Vevor air lift. It lifts my 6200 lb scissor lift with no problem.
Hope you guys are staying warm over there - this cold snap sucks! I love my air bag jack - it will lift all my passenger vehicles up with zero problems (other than I need an extension block on the top of it for my Jeep Cherokee since it sits so high already).
This caliper bolts are also the caliper sliders, need a litle of grease to work well. Volkswagen and the GM S10 have a similar type of bolts/sliders
I liked the video even though it was not a Cat Engine, thanks Josh.
I’ve got to do the front wheel bearings on my car soon, a 2003 Peugeot 206 1.4hdi. It’s probably not much bigger than this & probably just as corroded. Fortunately I’ve got a hydraulic press here at home, but I’m still not looking forward to doing the job. I will add, there’s usually a circlip (snap ring) that goes in the outer carrier to hold the bearing in, normally you press them in past flush & there’s a groove for some kind of clip. Maybe that’s not on these, but it’s on all similar bearing setups on the smaller European FWD cars I’m used to. I bought a special set of steel rings & plates to make pressing these in easier, hopefully it’ll help.
Very cool. Pickle fork funny man.
Thanks for sharing
Cool change of pace. I wanna see the pickup truck soon
No lie I like that video thanks for sharing!
Some other folks have added a few tricks for this job, for any kind of pressed bearing like this I use a slide hammer to pull the hub before unbolting the knuckle, makes life way easier. This set up is pretty identical to most smaller front wheel drive cars, the one you did thankfully didn't have the big snap ring holding the bearing in the knuckle, here in the rust belt that's typically what takes me the longest in a bearing job unless I'm real lucky.
Josh, don`t you worry about the subject matter in your videos. You could work on a sewage vac truck, it would still be very much worth watching. There`s more than enough variety. Anyone who whines about a vid not containing footage of a piece of equipment or a highway truck, isn`t worth losing as a viewer.
Slow season... I'll take it!
as for that inner bearing race, what I have done in the past is run a bead of weld on it. This not only gets some heat into it to expand it slightly, but the welding anneals the hard surface so a chisel can bite into it.

That is a good idea, didn't think of that, but my luck I would end up welding it to the hub.

@@AdeptApe two kinds that use this method.... .thems thats welded the race on, and thems that aint done it yet...... I try to keep the bead to the middle of the area where the rollers sit. its one of those techniques that when it works, IT WORKS.......

Actually if you weld a bead all the way around on the race it will just drop out when it shrinks from cooling down
6:06 Aliens reference received. Did not know Josh was a fan. Respeckt.
Heating that bearing race that stayed on the hub is the easiest I've found. I clamp a good size bolt in a vice, drop the hub over the bolt with the race facing down, heat the race with a map gas torch while spinning the hub with a gloved hand and the race will fall off in about a minute
Sometimes it's a welcome change to work on small stuff. I get caught out a bit because I don't have a lot of small tools. Good excuse to go to the toy shop to buy more.
2nd from -5 Indiana 👊🏻💪🏻🥶🥶🥶🥶
They actually make an adapter or tool to grease those style bearings. As you would imagine it does prolong the life of the bearings. I pull the hubs on my ranger and grease them once a year
They make a tool called The Hub Tamer to work on changing bearings like those in cars. I'm sure it would work for something like that.
Great
I don't mind seeing different stuff on your channel
The calliper bolt looks like the caliper slide pin as well
😎👍
thanks for great info on your channel .i have a 2WS that has a mis fires when letting off of excel orator wondered if you had some insight on it .have done a few checks but has me stumped witch is best snap shot to use ? tried test ecm ,now harness ,break out harness ,injectors...
The calliper bolts are like that cause they double as the caliper slides and for getting inner races off if you’ve got something you can sit it on and spin it then heat the race up with oxy acetylene they pretty much fall off
have those style caliper bolts on my 1995 ram 3500
I bet that caliper bolt is easier to take off once corroded than one that's fully threaded.
Our company does stuff like that too. Will say they are doing something, not do it, half ass a solution, order parts, buy something else.
Slow are ya? I spect its seasonal? Or maybe economy? I couldn't see you guys being slow since there's such a shortage of quality help. I am old and retired. I only go by the REAL news i watch and other youtubers. Best to ya young man!

What was the book rate on that?
Cool video. On a side note, I’m seeing a local cat dealer starting to run Silverado/f 150 pickup trucks in the service department. Is your dealership using them yet? If so what are they used for?
Maybe once you guys replace this UTV you can do a engine swap for the smallest CAT motor you can find .

There’s a high end Ferris zero turn mower that has a 48hp Cat diesel engine in it. That might make a good swap!
This is new
Dang no destruction video? 😅
Did that job pay flat rate or hourly? We have those kids that come to my shop during the school year on Wednesdays.
There is no snap ring on the caliper guide pins.
Josh are y’all hiring over at Western States? Id love to help you with videos. I wrench on equipment and trucks over at Bulldog equipment rentals here in Boise.
Please we beg you to make videos with subtitles 😊
Does it have genuine CAT filters?
What brand is the four Wheeler? Age?
Too bad you don't have a sandblaster then throw some ceracoat on that stuff...that will help it (at the very least...paint some waste diesel oil (mixed with like 5 oil to 1 acetone) on the rust and let it soak in the rust...it will protect it for a season from rusting worse than it is
I need some help with my 3116 in my CAT 924F loader. Would you be willing to chat and maybe have some advice on what to do. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you
Rubber boot
Pretty much every GM light truck uses similar brake caliper pins. Nothing new.
I love to hate the person that applies puts penetrating oil on a stuck part before they get the hot wrench.
@mtgwdefender

Because penetrating oil requires time to do its job
If that was an on road vehicle I would definitely want to replace those calipers. To much flavor on the caliper piston.
Why would you buy all the parts and meh lets not do that.... 🤦 I can see bearings and done they are kinda vital to not destroying more parts or the machine, bushings meh if they're needed and you're already that deep screw it throw them in. Shocks, you already have the parts and are that far 2 bolts and done, why not. If you didn't already have them meh they can wait for another day.
