Uterine Cancer often presents in the post-menopausal period with vaginal bleeding.
To diagnose the condition, doctors perform an MRI, a biopsy, and a PET scan to determine the stage of the cancer, if present.
Based on these tests, doctors plan the surgery.
1:10 What is the importance of Surgery in Uterine Cancer?
Surgery is the most effective method for treating uterine cancer in most early cases.
If the tumor is low grade, laparoscopy is preferred. During this procedure, the uterus is removed and sent for a frozen section analysis.
Based on the findings, lymph node staging is performed.
If necessary, lymph node staging is conducted either by laparoscopy or open surgery.
Lymph nodes are also sent for further investigation to determine the need for chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
