Whenevr I listen to the Ustadji, I put a dimlight in the room and close the dooras and windows so that no outside sound disturbs my listening. While listening, I lose contact with the world and gradually feel that I am being transported to another world of piece and calmness! Ifeel that Raga Marwa was created for the Ustadji, and he came to this world to sing Marwa.

This is not Ustadji singing Marwa, this is Marwa manifesting itself through Ustadji. शायद इसोही राग सिदध होना केहेते है.

This is Bliss .. people who saw this great man and listened to these are THE BLESSED !! Where has all these gone ? Majority of the current singers don't take us inside 😔

I can leave the world with this heavenly rendition in ears. Since my childhood I am listening Ustadji in gramaphone. My uncle remained an eminent Tabla player and played with Ustadji almost regularly beside Daud Sahab. Always I remained fortunate enough to listen him. For me it remained always the polarised rendition, the mistics of light and shades like the irotica of Khajuraho wid heavenly beauty.

Great comment. This is really an impressionist rendition. Creating an atmosphere of colour, feeling, temperature, an so on... This is not a musician's work of art, but a magician's!

I would consider this amongst the top 5 best ever of the great Ustad Amir Khan . A higher pitched version of this has been doing the rounds since many many years, among Amir Khan fans including myself. This is definitely the correct pitch and enhances the deeply mystic effect of the vilambit barhat . I believe this concert took place in 1955 at Calcutta's Jhankar Music Circle . This Marwa was followed by a fabulous Hamsadhwani . Dear Shri. Raju , millions of Amir Khan fans like me owe a debt of gratitude to you for your generosity. Can't thank you enough ! Jiyo Jiyo ...

This Marwa by Amir Khan Saheb is really sounding alive... The ras of this raag and the uncomfortable atmosphere it creates due to its unusual vaadi and samvaadi swars is just hypnotic! It's really a meditation...

Not that I know a great deal of Shastriya Sangeet, but after listening to Ustaad ji, I heard many versions of Raag Marwa, Only Pandit Nikhil Bannerjee comes close to this masterful rendition.

I clicked on the video just to check it out while doing other stuff. Before the second minute, stopped everything else, closed my eyes, and was hypnotised.

This is unmatched rendition of raag Marwa. The comment of top 5 pieces of music ever recorded anywhere in the world came from none other than Pt.Ravi Shankar himself.

This is THE Marwa rendition. This is not to compare the legends of Indian music. There are some really good renditions of Raag Marwa I have liked: Pandit Nikhil Bannerjee, the great Hirabai Barodekar, Ustaad Ali Akbar Khan. But Usataad Amir Khan....uff. Takes one to another plane.....

I'd like to listen to this wonderful rendition of 'Marwa' by Ustad Amir Khan while taking my last breaths so that I can carry it to my next birth!

This concert took place in Kolkata, at Jhankar, Guru Gyan Prakash Ghosh's residence. At the beginning of the clip, there is a voice which confirms the fact. @RajuAshokan ji please rectify in the description. Thank you for sharing this priceless gem.

You can't listen to Marwa sung or played by anyone else after listening to this masterpiece.

Amir Khan Saab shows how deep one can go into Marwa.

Producing series of vocal notes and touching them delicately with varying intensity to create an atmosphere which is divine.

plz do nt compare the legends with each others...they all are a amazing and wonderful in thr own...even they used to respect each other...ustad amir khan and ustad nzakat ali khan...both are fantabulous in thr own style and gayki...they both are masters of thr own sunging and gharanas :) #Love

One of the classic Amir Khans with its very subtle interplay of the taans..intervals..

By far the best Marwa I have ever listened. This is with due respects to the other greats.

This is absolutely spellbinding! Khansaheb's voice is ideally suited for Marwa, especially the in vilambit _laya_ . Thanks a million to everyone who brought this to my ears!

I will call it classroom for knowing what Marwa is. Vilambit vistaar. Jai ho

+Gajanan Jog I think the concert was held in Calcutta, and organised by Jhankar classical music circle led by Pt Jnanprakash Ghosh. There is an announcement at the begining of the recording which is in Bengali and the announcer clearly mentions Jhankar.

"Pathos and anxiety" someone wrote below; this music is the height of mysticism. Are any of the modern Indian/Pakistani musicians playing anything like this anymore? Most of what I hear currently is over-produced, Westernized, and low on "depth of feeling". Is there anything like a musical underground in that part of the world? I can tell you that here in the States, music (above and below ground) is all but unlistenable with very few exceptions.
