It didn't work for me in the beginning, then I switch the layers by putting text in the above layer than the video layer that I'm applying the effect, then it worked!

i keep getting a widescreen bar on the text when i try to put this on a video can you explain why this is happening

I set up everything the way the video outlines, but once I change the setting in effect controls to change the track matte key for my footage in V1 to V2, everything goes black. I was doing this with a piece of text as a graphic and video, the former in V2, the latter in V1. When I follow the video's steps, everything disappears, the screen is completely black. Does anyone know what to do from here?

If the clip acting as the matte is an opaque black-and-white graphic, choose Composite Using: Matte Luma. (If using a title or a graphic that contains an Alpha channel, you can choose Composite Using: Matte Alpha.)

How do you do this for Vertical Video?

I woulld like to know how to have multiple track mattes for 1 clip. addign it again doesnt help. it jsut replaces. llike if i want it to appear on multiple words or shapes instead of just one

@@TheOnlineLearningSpace I actually figured out a simpler way after playing around. What I did was created the animation for all the texts that I needed and nested it down to one sequence and used that as the text layer which worked perfectly.

You can always Goto scale properties and change the scale of the video before you so the matte

This is a nightmare for me. I need to be able to adjust on the fly, but any adjustment I make to the video is also applied to the track matte. So frustrating.

When we add track matte key the background colour is always black.. how to change that colour ?

The background is black because of transparency. If your keyed track is V2, place footage on V1. It will be your new background.
